horsh1··on Have LLMs solved natural language parsing?
So where is the parser?
horsh1··on Good old-fashioned AI remains viable in spite of the rise of LLMs
Nothing existing only before 1985, that is, before the invention of the open source, was alive in the first place. The code for the classic programs is nowhere to be found. And if found, it is written in some interlisp dead language.
horsh1··on Nota is a language for writing documents, like academic papers and blog posts
It would be interesting to see if Nota could solve one problem that TeX and LaTeX, while theoretically capable, don't really solve in practice. Namely, the ease of styling according to dumb external requirements. Just to give you several examples:

  * Very tight, but very loaded layouts like A0 conference posters
  * Apply a national standard, such as, for example, post-Soviet GOST documentation styling standards
  * All combinatorial explosion of bibliography styling requirements in different international traditions
  * Make the documents look like a default style in so and so MS Word version
  * Precise positioning of one picture upon another, or text upon a picture for quickfixes in the papers
  * Be able to consciously tweak any of the above
The problem with tex universe solutions here is while technically all of the above is possible, in practice it requires some black magic far deeper than a lay person (even with a scientific degree) wishes to dive into.
horsh1··on The Russian State Social University Is Developing a Social Rating System "We"
So what is the real totalitarian difference of Zhima from, say, Equifax or Experian?
horsh1··on WikiScroll
Can the language be changed?
horsh1··on Solaris movie review and film summary (1976)
... Using Tokyo as the vision of the future ten years before Blade Runner and Akira.
horsh1··on Solaris movie review and film summary (1976)
> Burton's extended unexplained car ride

What do you mean unexplained? They clearly were showing the future. The multi-level Tokyo highways were percieved as extremely futuristic by the soviet audience. There was nothing like that in the Union at the time.

horsh1··on Greenland ice sheet is close to a melting point of no return
How long until Greenland is green again?
horsh1··on Agatha Christie novels reworked to remove potentially offensive language
An fb2 diff tool
horsh1··on Agatha Christie novels reworked to remove potentially offensive language
Given the progress of the large language models, the news is almost irrelevant now: "Produce me Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but more offensive to everyone". "Make Catch 22 version, but make higher officers less dumb". "Rewrite Winnie the Pooh, but make Eeyore less offensive, in general".
horsh1··on Wiby.me: curated search engine for content-first suckless sites
Zero results for requests in japanese, russian or hebrew. Suckless they say? What content?
horsh1··on Who Are Xi’s Enemies?
Read HN, but filter out all things like bbc.com, wsj.com, nyt.com, cnn.com, bloomberg.com, apple.com, microsoft.com, twitter.com, reuters.com. If it is an msm or a software giant -- just filter it all out completely.
horsh1··on Ask HN: What would be your “perfect” programming language?
Fixity and associativity control at least at the haskell level. Notation comparable to Coq level. Generics without jvm limitations. Subtyping or subsets of inductive types. Rich signature overloading. No need for general recursion, loops etc. Pretty printing out of the box. Static literals (from the binary directly to memory).
horsh1··on Ask HN: What would be your “perfect” programming language?
And trailing lambdas?
horsh1··on Scryer Prolog: A modern Prolog implementation written mostly in Rust
And also there are user defined functions on dicts. Those are all moves in the right direction, but all seem ad hoc and partial.
horsh1··on Scryer Prolog: A modern Prolog implementation written mostly in Rust
Yea, that's a good thing.
horsh1··on Scryer Prolog: A modern Prolog implementation written mostly in Rust
Less repetitions. Instead of

   roo(X, W) :- zut(X, Z), pum(Z, Y), tos(Y, W)
we could write something like

   roo/2 :- zut . pum . tos
horsh1··on A search engine that favors text-heavy sites and punishes modern web design

horsh1··on Soviet TV version of Lord of the Rings rediscovered after 30 years
Soviet TV play adaptation of Asimov's "The Naked Sun". Has the best looking robots. (See the beginning of part 3 for example)

horsh1··on Soviet TV version of Lord of the Rings rediscovered after 30 years
Hobbit, yes! While 1991 "lotr" and 1985 "the hobbit" are both tv playes, the lotr is rather awful and amateurish. But "the Hobbit" is a real masterpiece.
horsh1··on Godot maintainer removes controversial satirical piece from documentation
For fun.
horsh1··on Mojeek: Independent search engine with its own spider
