hoppla··on Vim Modes Transition Diagram
Ah, finally a map to escape this dreadful labyrinth
hoppla··on Ad block shouldn't break your checkout
I tried to order something from an online store, the “place order” button did nothing. The json response was nice enough to tell me to contact their bank responsible for the payment integration. A part of me wonder how things would turn out if I followed their instructions.
hoppla··on Ten Rules for Negotiating a Job Offer
Could be a cultural difference, but still think it sounds like they signal that something is non negotiable, either you accept it or leave.
hoppla··on Ten Rules for Negotiating a Job Offer
I would assume the interview was over if they mentioned other motivated candidates
hoppla··on Afraid to Google a thing because I don't want the algorithm to think I like it
I use both Firefox and Chrome. So I see the print dialog too often
hoppla··on Afraid to Google a thing because I don't want the algorithm to think I like it
Now my printer also knows what I read

hoppla··on Tesla 10x times safer than average car
My understanding is that the autopilot only work on some streets, which I assume is of the safer kind.

So, do they state that Tesla is 10x safer on safe streets than cars on unsafe streets?

hoppla··on YouTube suspends account for linking to a PhD research on WPA2 vulnerability
Knowledge is empowering, and one can also argue that lack of it is considered harmful. Not being able to link to resources that can help you understand how something works can lead to (in the big picture) that only criminals will gain access to that knowledge.
hoppla··on Update on campaign targeting security researchers
Sebastian Lazarescue, Security Researcher @ SecuriElite -

Last name sounds like he is affiliated with Lazarus?

hoppla··on Swarms of soldier crabs can implement logical gates (2012)
Now they need to add waves and connect it to the CLK pin. Tidal waves can serve as RST
hoppla··on GeForce RTX 3060 Ethereum Mining Restrictions Have Been Broken
I’m not sure if I got tricked or not, it sounds ridiculous but apparently you have to pay extra to get heated backseats in Teslas. It’s a software thing, so it’s not like you need to install new seats. It works similar to miners - consume electricity and generate heat
hoppla··on Bitcoin miners in Abkhazia are causing blackouts in remote villages [video]
EU regulates how much power my vacuum cleaner and my lightbulb can use. And to what end? So that some greedy miner can buy cheaper electricity to make numbers and heat! The only way I can see that the environmental problem called Bitcoin can end, is to make it a more expensive.

Power prices could be increased by usage to motivate consuming less and punish those who use too much.

There will still be countries that mine and burn coal so that others can mine Bitcoin. But I believe there are more sustainable industries that could benefit from these wasted resources

hoppla··on Can’t use iCloud with “true” as the last name
I started a small company with a colon “:” in it. Should have not done that...

I regularly encounter services that does not handle it very well

hoppla··on I heat my home by mining crypto currencies
I was joking with my friend that we should make and sell heaters that are miners in disguise. The customers would not notice the difference
hoppla··on Nvidia Limits RTX 3060 Hash Rate
I am hoping to repurpose the gpu/cmp for a hashcat rig once cards no longer provide income for miners. I fear I no longer will be able to use GPUs for this, and are crossing my fingers for cmps
hoppla··on How to Destroy the Earth (2006)
We better not... do not want The Operator to destroy our Earth.
hoppla··on Radio Amateur Copies Signal from Mars-Orbiting Satellite
Is the arrl website hacked? Whenever I click on text, I get ad pop ups.
hoppla··on (Very) Basic Intro to Elliptic Curve Cryptography
Thanks, that was a truly good talk
hoppla··on (Very) Basic Intro to Elliptic Curve Cryptography
I am also puzzled by this, and if the number is hops is so large that it’s unfeasible to enumerate, how does the key generator know many hops it should be...
hoppla··on Czech gunmaker CZG buys Colt in cash and stock deal
Got a CZ455 varmint with interchangeable 22LR and 17HMR barrels. Good for practice shooting and hunting small game. The weight of the rifle also gives me good training as it’s heavy as my bigger 308 rifle (Sauer 202).
hoppla··on Self-organising textures from cellular automata
Ditto, it has to be organic for me. Usually holes with stuff in it.
hoppla··on Someone attempted to poison water supply in Florida city during hack
I assume water treatment plants are considered critical infrastructure and have regulations to prevent unauthorized access.

Either someone messed up, or there is a resourceful attacker.

hoppla··on RFC 1178: Choosing a name for your computer (1990)
For some reason, when doing a fresh OS install, the hostname step is the bottleneck and takes too long to complete. Distros should really prioritize optimizing this part of the installer!
hoppla··on New quantum receiver the first to detect entire radio frequency spectrum
Is this already possible by scaling vertically with SDR and processing power? By the time the quantum receiver is commodity, I believe you would be able to do the same with old technology for a fraction of the price. But I guess there are benefits that I am not able to see, and the progression of new tech...
hoppla··on How to lower the price of plant-based meat
I do not think people are confused, but the plants that are trying to be something they are not.
hoppla··on Don't use functions as callbacks unless they're designed for it
const readableNumbers = someNumbers.map((item, _, _) => toReadableNumber(item));
hoppla··on Google’s approach to replacing the cookie is drawing antitrust scrutiny
« The issue here is excessively intrusive tracking, not the ads themselves.»

I use privacy badger as an ad blocker, even though it does not target ads. It somehow block privacy intrusive domains, which happen to be related to ads.

hoppla··on Grindr to be fined almost €10M over GDPR complaint
Clearview AI has the same impression. They do not allow Norwegians to opt out (by uploading your face) - however they recognize that Switzerland have GDPR despite not being part of EU
