hoppelhase··on Why Is College in America So Expensive?
Is it really better than some AAA college in the US?
hoppelhase··on Why Is College in America So Expensive?
Could you point me to some numbers?
hoppelhase··on Why Is College in America So Expensive?
What does this has to do with college prices?

I've studied CS 3.5 years for ~550€ per year (around $700). This includes free public transportation, but excludes an apartment.

In Germany, you can get a gov. funded student loan which can go up to ~750€ per Month. You have to pay back only the half of that. The 750€/Month is the highest amount that you can get. But you get it only if you have to pay the health insurance yourself, which is ~90€/Month. Otherwise, the maximum amount ~650€/Month. What you can get depends on the income of your parents. If your parents earn a lot of money, you get less.

What you have to pay back is capped to 10000€ in total, free of interest. So if you get more than 20000€ in total, you still have to pay back only 10000€. You even get a discount on that if you pay back early. If you are taking this loan, your maximum debt is 10000€ (to be repaid only after the receiver exceeds a certain income level after graduation).

You don't get it forever, though. It is limited to 3-5 years, depending on what you study.

It is called Bafög: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bundesausbildungsförderungsg...

I'd consider this as "free enough".

hoppelhase··on Introducing the Windows Pseudo Console (ConPty)
The existing Console API won't be extended with features of VT codes, or will it?
hoppelhase··on Introducing the Windows Pseudo Console (ConPty)

hoppelhase··on Introducing the Windows Pseudo Console (ConPty)
I always liked the Console API where you can set the color of the text without actually changing the text that is written to Stdout. No issues when piping the output somewhere else. No need to check whether the output is getting piped.
hoppelhase··on Introducing the Windows Pseudo Console (ConPty)
If I use the System.Process API in .NET and redirect the Stdin/Stdout to a stream inside my application, does the framework spawn an invisible console and scrape the output? Or does this work differently? I always did it that way and thought the 3rd party terminal emulators also do that. Why do these emulators have to do it differently?
hoppelhase··on 'Intelligent' crows to pick up litter at French theme park
Well, in Japan, littering is rarely seen.
hoppelhase··on Firefox’s Trusted Recursive Resolver DNS feature is dangerous
This proposal introduces a lot of complexity. It requires JSON parsing, HTTP and TLS. A bug in one of these components could is likely to occur.

In contrast, DNS is very simple and can be implemented with a lot less code.

hoppelhase··on HTTP 418 I'm a Teapot
I was not arguing against implementing 418. IMHO, it's okay to implement it since it won't be assigned to something else.
hoppelhase··on HTTP 418 I'm a Teapot
Indeed. It defines code 418 for HTCPCP (which is an extension to HTTP), not HTTP itself.

So, all HTTP-only implementations that have 418 are technically incorrect, since it is not part of HTTP.

hoppelhase··on Show HN: Moon – 3kb JavaScript UI compiler
He created a fake account to publish his "look at me, I'm 13" tweets.

If he's 14, then he's pretty much an attention needing dude (as he submitted this moon library at least 5 times and his "I'm 13 yo" tweets at least 3 times). At the same time, he claims that he does not like to mention his age.
