And if you open source work is being used by someone to generate revenue for themselves; then they should be a good open source community member and give back to the root project with contributions, community engagement, promo, collaborations, and even paying them sponsorships and donations.

I don’t think you have a full understand of the situation.

I am open to discussing it further with the community and resolving this unneeded gripe.

Get over yourself already

I apologize for my end of the drama. I never meant any harm or anything nefarious, and I 100% never intended to come off as stealing.

In high-school, I got suspended a number of times for playing around with the school computers and stuff lol.

We didn’t grow up with a lot of money, so I didn’t get to play with fancy systems until school.

The things that I got in trouble for in school are now the same things that I make a living on; protecting apps from younger versions of me lol.

Some colleagues asked me before “but who would be dumb enough to try and log into a sensitive system?”.

My reply would be a naive 16 year old high schooler who doesn’t realize what they are doing, or the skill set that they may harness.

I have screenshots of conversations with OP offering to co maintainers and partners.

OP actually agreed, and then blocked me on Twitter lol..

No where am I impersonating OP. I am my own person, and will never claim to be someone else.

100% authentic Brandon Owens. I’ve been an ADHD disrupter all my life, ever since I was in grade school. Why would I stop now?

Yes, I have verified that the changes aren’t trivial.

Our project includes near 100% test coverage, and enterprise features that any serious development shop will require.

ISO27000/27001 compliance is a big start in non trivial changes.

I had also been working to resolve a number of major issues within Outstatic such as licensing and GDPR concerns with the author himself privately; as to not disclose major issues on a public forum like that from out of respect.

I appreciate and understand your feelings.

What changes or updates can I make based on your feedback?

hoofhearted··on My open source project got stolen by a HN user
That wasn’t the claim at all actually

My previous submission months ago asking for guidance on open source licensing to avoid situations exactly like this: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36327372
hoofhearted··on My open source project got stolen by a HN user
Hey HN,

These claims that op has made have been found to be false. His project uses an Open MIT license, and I forked it like a good OSS community member does.

The main dealer breaker for me not using his code directly within my project was a serious GDPR and data privacy violation that I found on the surface of OP’s code.

https://github.com/avitorio/outstatic/blob/d440f8f53ee559fb3...

There is no disclaimers or privacy polices within OP’s website, project, or readers that say he is collecting analytics data, including sensitive GitHub project details.

Some of my users and customers require ISO2700 and SOC2 compliant solutions, and this was a huge red flag to us.

I contacted OP about it, and other security issues, but he blew me off and turned to trashing me online like this.

What do you think?

hoofhearted··on My open source project got stolen by a HN user
Hey Andre, I apologize for any grievances or ill feelings you have towards Elegant or my team.

I’m sorry for any miscommunications or misunderstandings, and I would be more than happy to take this offline and resolve this without continuing to pull in the development community.

hoofhearted··on My open source project got stolen by a HN user
He took your advice, and posted slander on the next.js thread and caused a ton of people to start messaging me and harassing me and our project contributors.

The next.js mods review his claims and said that he didn’t have any grounds for a claim because he used an open mit license.

They locked the thread and said the matter was over.

OP blew it up and tried to take it further to other subreddits, and this stupid drama even pulled in Lee Robinson from Vercel.

I am making updates to my project based off the communities feedback.

Is there anything else you can recommend?

hoofhearted··on My open source project got stolen by a HN user
Elegant operates from within the United States of America, and we can say what we want without your approval as per the first amendment of the U.S. constitution correct?

I gave you credit, did everything you asked, kissed your butt, asked you to let me join your project.

You are just scorn over something and have decided to come to the internet and spread lies and slander our name.

It’s reassuring though to see the large majority of comments on this thread say that I didn’t do anything wrong, and tough shit on your part.

Get over it already, and work on fixing your bugs and user friction so that I can use your code directly in my project without having to rewrite it unit tests and solid design principals.

hoofhearted··on My open source project got stolen by a HN user
OP claims I stole his project and is trashing me all of the internet and harassing my project contributors.

He claims I stole his idea 1 for 1, and just copied his work without his permission or giving him credit.

He gave me explicit permission to use his work; he has an open mit license; and I have given him credit and offered to sponsor his project.

Dang, he claims I stole his idea from him; but I have been certainly emailing you back and forth about a concept for a simple Wordpress alternatives for developers.

I was in the process of building out more content explaining the product, and preparing to launch here on hacker news as you suggested.

hoofhearted··on My open source project got stolen by a HN user
Hey dang, this guy is out here bashing me and spreading false claims; all which have been proved to be false.

Can you remove this post or something please?

hoofhearted··on Ask HN: If you've resigned from a previous job, what was the reason?
Some of the worst code I have ever seen, anywhere lol..

A single model file with 3000+ variables was where I drew the line, and started looking for the next venture.

hoofhearted··on Ask HN: Which co-location providers would you recommend in the US?
Out here in Data Center Alley, AKA Ashburn VA, Raging Wire is a large and reliable player in co-location hosting.

https://www.datacenterfrontier.com/site-selection/article/11...

Raging Wire is pretty open about their co-location business, and even has big advertisement signs placed outside their data centers advertising to new customers.

hoofhearted··on Las Vegas Sphere reports $98.4M loss; CFO quits
The only minor difference is about 80 years of economic activity; and a few super secret military projects, including one that helped launch the atomic age.

Also the two cities both have modern engineering marvels in their own right. Just one had a really tall building that served as a symbol of power, but with no real purpose. The other has a massive dam that took amazing diplomacy and bureaucracy to convince 7 states and Mexico to agree to tame a wild and destructive river; in exchange for generating power, and using the revenue to fund itself.

hoofhearted··on WeWork Goes Bankrupt
London and other major cities are a positive signal of growth and product market fit.

Doesn’t mean there is stability within.

Then analyze the inverse of this as a control test.

It claims to be a unicorn, and is dominating major cities…

But the people in the suburbs and sticks have never heard of said company before.

Starting to look like more a duck, rather than a unicorn.

hoofhearted··on WeWork Goes Bankrupt
It did work for WeWork actually lol..

I kept seeing them pop up in strange places as I traveled the country for work; but I hadn’t ever met any business who used them, and I kept seeing them headline HN about being the next great unicorn.

I thought it was strange that I didn’t know at least a single person in my business network with any experience of WeWork; most said “Who?”

Then I later asked some of my non tech common folk friends if they knew anyone with any type of experience with WeWork. Same response lol..

Wasn’t long after that headlines started to come up in the news about turmoil.

Rule 1: If everyone loves it including toddlers; it’s a good buy

Rule 2: If your gut tells you something isn’t right; prod around and get some feedback on your instinct. If things aren’t adding up, just stay away. It’s not worth the risk or effort if things are fishy. Things might not unravel immediately, but usually where there is smoke, there is fire.

If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, and even looks like a duck… It’s probably a duck honk honk :)

hoofhearted··on WeWork Goes Bankrupt
I worked with an older fart many years ago who taught me some of my best investment strategy.

He said that one time his 4 year old niece asked for an IPod for Christmas. He said that he didn’t know what that was; but if a 4 year old did, then it was probably gonna be big.

So basically if common folks in your network interact with a particular product; then there is a good chance that it’s a billion dollar product. The inverse is the same, in that if few people have heard of a product, then it’s probably not a unicorn.

Applying that logic to both WeWork and Theranos back when Uber was at peak, I asked around within my network if people knew of the anyone who had experience with either company.

People said nope; never heard of it or used it. I thought that was very strange considering how often both companies were dominating HN at the time with mindshare about their insane success.

If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck; it’s probably a duck.

hoofhearted··on Why You Should Write Your Own Static Site Generator
How do you feel about this attempt at creating a better WordPress that we have been working on?

It uses Git and Markdown for easy deployments to your serverless CI/CD pipeline just as you described.

I'd love your feedback :)

hoofhearted··on Sam Bankman-Fried Convicted
I agree.

I believe the evidence in this trial will support a civil trial against him showing that he pierced the corporate veil, and that he was personally tied to FTX with some of his purchases with company funds.

hoofhearted··on Automattic is acquiring Texts and betting big on the future of messaging
You know, I think I realized what happened to WordPress.

You sold me on that everything was gravy, but not once did you ask me, the user, for any feedback on how you might improve your product.

Thank you again for everything you have done for the developer community, and thanks for some great content the blog :)

Cheers!

Hey Matt! Thanks for the reply!

Nice to meet you, I’m Brandon:)

That is awesome to hear that you have so many devs dedicated to the project, and that you are still so deeply invested into WordPress. Thank you for everything you have done and created, and most of us probably wouldn’t be here without your software at some point or another in their life.

Thanks for all you do, and keep up the great work of empowering creators everywhere!

hoofhearted··on Automattic is acquiring Texts and betting big on the future of messaging
So does that mean they are investing back greatly into WordPress to improve their core product experience?
hoofhearted··on The {{MEETUP_FRIENDLY_NAME}} is coming up today
Yeah I received a similar email as well.

YC has a funky hodgepodge of React on Rails for their website, and it could use a major update considering they’re the leading tech incubator.

I emailed Dang about it, and he suggested that I build a product that solves this issue instead.

I ended up building a prototype on top of Docusaurus, and received a ton of developer feedback.

We’ve been working on it for about 6 months consistently now, and we’ve made huge progress on a simple CMS and content framework that would solve all of YC’s issues such as this accidental newsletter blast.

My goal with this project is to upgrade the YC website, as well as Paul Graham’s.

What do you’all think?

hoofhearted··on Just paying Figma because nothing else works
I thought the DOJ was pretty stern on blocking this deal as it would be anticompetitive to users and would result in the outcome others have described here in the comments.

No?

hoofhearted··on Just paying Figma because nothing else works
The sale of Figma to Adobe got blocked correct? Or did I miss something?
hoofhearted··on Meta is banning people from advertising after running ads for Python and Pandas
I had the same issue a few months ago.

My Facebook account was the admin on a page for a business that we had for 10 years.

At some point in the last year, FB apparently flagged my advertising account and seeked request. I didn't respond in time, and that account is now permenantly banned from advertising with no way to request a review lol..

Whatever! I figured the universe was telling me that the good old days of advertising to real people on FB were gone.

I did however want to start gathering insights on potential audiences with the Meta pixel; so I just simply created a new Facebook account, and then a new page with 0 advetising history.

That seemed to work, and haven't had any issues.. Old account is still flagged; and I just have to flip between my accounts when I actually use FB.
