honkhonkpants··on If Prisoners Ran Prisons
Nuke us.
honkhonkpants··on Poor people pay for parking even when they can’t afford a car
Building a parking lot will in no way save you from the imminent domain powers of people who want to build roads and railroads. This strikes me as some kind of urban legend. Every place I've lived has mandated some ratio of parking to floor space in new office buildings, which is why office buildings are surrounded by parking.
honkhonkpants··on New Zealand earthquake: Tsunami follows powerful tremor
USGS is indicating 7.8.
honkhonkpants··on Why did ProtonMail vanish from Google search results for months?
I'm sure Google would be happy with that because as in all such cases where some blog claims that Google dropped them down the memory hole for absolutely no reason whatsoever, we don't ever hear Google's side of the story. Google has nothing to gain from commenting. But in court they would have a reason to respond, and then we'd find out exactly what kind of malware these guys were hosting, or whatever.
honkhonkpants··on Brain implants allow paralysed monkeys to walk
Sure there is.
honkhonkpants··on Brain implants allow paralysed monkeys to walk
It doesn't have anything to do with cognitive dissonance. We allow ourselves to slaughter farm animals because we've benefit their species tremendously. The perpetual existence of domestic animal species is virtually assured. By contrast, we have done nothing for monkeys other than relentlessly destroy their habitats.
honkhonkpants··on Leonard Cohen Has Died
Cohen resumed smoking at age 80, because why not.
honkhonkpants··on Trump Picks Top Climate Skeptic to Lead EPA Transition
Yeah think of all the indignities those conservatives had to suffer, kowtowing before a black man!
honkhonkpants··on Trump Picks Top Climate Skeptic to Lead EPA Transition
Did he? Republicans favor policies that increase the wealth of the incumbent wealthy and are indifferent to policies that increase the wealth of the median citizen.
honkhonkpants··on Trump Picks Top Climate Skeptic to Lead EPA Transition
Trump administration will be a disaster for science and an end to the idea that government can help solve our climate problems. Installing this guy at the EPA will be like having your Great Library sacked by barbarians in Civilization. You don't come back from that.
honkhonkpants··on A Method I’ve Used to Eliminate Bad Tech Hires
No mention of the tax implications? Paying every candidate sounds like a wonderful way to increase paperwork.
honkhonkpants··on Review: The NES Classic Edition and all 30 games on it
It's funny that the NES Classic has an HDMI output, and the Wii has a composite video output.
honkhonkpants··on Google – My Activity
Perhaps that is because they are unable to join your advertising profile with your account, under various terms of services and agreements.

So you can't really expect them to be able to cough up the contents of profile 0x3f47d0387acb94857 when asked for the history of your account, if they are forbidden from joining the two domains together.

honkhonkpants··on Ralph J. Cicerone, scientist who worked to protect the ozone layer, has died
It is amazing how many people still harbor deranged fantasies about the big government conspiracy to deprive us of our God-given R-12. This insane screed was the first hit for me on Google. It doesn't give me hope that we'll solve climate change.

honkhonkpants··on The New York Times to Offer Open Access on Web and Apps for the Election
Nice. Last time their exit polls were fantastically accurate.
honkhonkpants··on An Update to Our Supercharging Program
I think your max price is a little low. In California PG&E territory the top tier costs $0.40 per. If you have the EV plan it can cost up to $0.44 during daylight hours in the summer.
honkhonkpants··on Dongle dilemma provokes Apple price cut
Dongle was originally a thing that you plugged into a computer that allowed it to execute expensive licensed software like PRO/Engineer or Softimage.
honkhonkpants··on Here’s to more HTTPS on the web
Huh? Silicon Valley. Think about it. What comes first, the hardware or the software?
honkhonkpants··on Silicon Valley’s “megacommute” even worse than L.A
Beats me. There are reasons to build low-speed maglevs on sites where wheeled trains don't work well. For example a maglev can climb steeper grades, and you can run them right through dense urban areas where noise might be an issue.
honkhonkpants··on Silicon Valley’s “megacommute” even worse than L.A
Electric, steel-wheeled trains are already limited by passenger comfort in acceleration and deceleration. Making a trainset that accelerates and decelerates more quickly is a non-problem that nobody wants to solve.
honkhonkpants··on Silicon Valley’s “megacommute” even worse than L.A
Why do I need a maglev to go 70? A bus can go 70. Any old steel-wheeled train can hit 200.
honkhonkpants··on Silicon Valley’s “megacommute” even worse than L.A
The simple solution is to give the homeless homes.
honkhonkpants··on Silicon Valley’s “megacommute” even worse than L.A
The article makes disingenuous claims about measure B. The county plans to spend nearly all of that money on freeways, which history has shown will not relieve traffic. Their plan calls for almost nothing for public transit.
honkhonkpants··on In Greece, Property Is Debt
Zoning laws in the US don't govern anything other than the initial certificate of occupancy in most US states. They are irrelevant for subsequent sales.
honkhonkpants··on Plasma Mobile – Turns your phone into a fully open hacking device
It's an improvement on Openmoko. I remember the first time some freetard tried to show me Openmoko at a trade show, and before he could successfully make a phone call he had to pop up an xterm, run alsamixer, and fix everything. It was hilarious.

I believe Openmoko used GTK+. Maybe Qt was what the project needed all along.

honkhonkpants··on Realistic alternatives to Apple computers
Yay another X61 fan. At home I am still using an X61 Tablet with the 1400x1050 AFFS display. I maxed it out at 8GB of memory and installed an SSD. It is so choice.

honkhonkpants··on Windows file system compression had to be dumbed down
Was axp even the weakest of the four windows architectures for this task? PPC and MIPS can leave the bit twiddler scratching their heads, too.
honkhonkpants··on 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV
"Seeing as Tesla has more Evs on the road than anyone else by a large magnitude"

The Chevy Volt is the most common plug-in electric car. Tesla is 3rd behind Nissan in cumulative sales.

honkhonkpants··on 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV
"Range anxiety" is a condescending industry term. People are anxious about the range of their EV because the range sucks, not because of some mental barrier.
