hoechst··on How to get rich without getting lucky
why aspire to "have way more money than you need"? cause that's what this "how to get rich" bullshit is about.

set your focus on what you love to do, not on acquiring more than you need. that probably won't make you happy anyway.

if you chose to work in IT because you enjoy it, you're already super fucking lucky anyway. you're sought after and money's good (generally speaking).

if you feel like you need more, do the actual work to make it happen. don't listen to generic one-liners by some pretentious investment guru.

hoechst··on How to get rich without getting lucky
this is way better (and more real) advice than a collection of disjointed, pretentious one liners.
hoechst··on Best alternative to f.lux
Kind of funny, reading about flux4 being "bloated with not needed features" on a site that has css christmas lights and javascript snowflakes...
hoechst··on Markdown Here – Write email in Markdown
Been using Airmail for macOS for a few years now. Pretty happy with it, does formating with Markdown as well.
hoechst··on Draggable JS – a lightweight, responsive, modern drag-and-drop library
No idea, sorry.
hoechst··on Draggable JS – a lightweight, responsive, modern drag-and-drop library
I recently build a drag & drop feature for a customer with http://interactjs.io/.

The example page might not be as flashy, but it seems more reliable across browsers.

hoechst··on OpenWrt and LEDE to re-merge
Sure, don't get me wrong, I think it's great that they put aside their differences and decided to work together again. I agree that focusing of one project is better.

Just wanted to put it more into context.

hoechst··on OpenWrt and LEDE to re-merge
The forked from OpenWRT in May 2016 and are now already going back. I guess there's not much to gain from the code merge for end users except for a few bug fixes (https://lede-project.org/faq#were_there_any_technical_reason...).

How many screens can you connect using USB Type-C?
hoechst··on “It's The Future”
Please also read the followup (https://circleci.com/blog/it-really-is-the-future/).

I read both articles a year ago and it really helped me grasp the whole container movement.

hoechst··on Never ever write software for Oculus
It's easy to get mad about stuff you don't understand, read or research correctly.

It even states that "In the event you are a developer who submits User Content to Oculus, you acknowledge and agree that our agreements with you as a developer may supersede this section of the Terms."

In any case, this section of the ToS is not even about Software, but about User Content. There's a "Developer Distribution Agreement" for that: https://share.oculus.com/developer-distribution-agreement

Quote: "You grant to Oculus a nonexclusive, worldwide, and royalty-free license to: copy, perform, display, and use the Products for administrative and demonstration purposes in connection with the operation and marketing of the Store and to use the Products to make improvements to the Store, Rift, and any other Oculus products and services."

Valves Steam Distribution Agreement looks similar (if http://stuff.danbo.vg/sda.html is to be believed): "Company hereby grants to Valve a non-exclusive license to reproduce, publicly display and perform, transmit, sell, license and otherwise distribute the Applications in object code form via Steam and through any type of payment method to Steam Account Owners in the Territory."

Not trying to defend any companies here. Those terms might as well be shitty. I don't know, I'm not a jurist or anything. But at least get the facts right.

hoechst··on VoCore – A coin-sized Linux computer with WiFi
this looks like an implementation of this: https://github.com/OLIMEX/OLINUXINO/tree/master/HARDWARE/RT5...

olimex sells those itself: https://www.olimex.com/Products/OLinuXino/RT5350F/RT5350F-OL...

hoechst··on If you're alive in 30 years you might be in 1000 years too
If a scientist working in the field writes about this, backing his assumption with research papers and actual work that's being done in the field: I'm listening.

If a futurist writes about this, mostly backing his assumption by repeating alterations of the phrase "because of technological progress": I'm expressing my skepticism on hn.

hoechst··on 1Password sends your password in clear text across the loopback interface
For the record, as it's been asked in the blog post: Enpass uses loopback as well, but encrypts or decodes (obfuscates?) the data somehow. I looked into decoding the data, but I wasn’t able to do it (just tried for half an hour).

hoechst··on WoSign: Free two-year multi-domain SSL certificate
yea,i also can't get it to work. been bashing my head against this for hours. i did this to make the multidomain cert: http://stackoverflow.com/a/9158662/4202492[1] then i'm doing this: "openssl req -out example.com.csr -new -sha256 -newkey rsa:2048 -nodes -keyout example.com.key -config openssl.cnf"

do i need to attach a mail adress to the csr? do i need to set a challenge password? what is the "free binding domain" on wosign?
