Yeah I absolutely agree. Lol. I will update that!

Some of the data is a little rough but I am polishing it as I notice scuffs!

hmmokidk··on WebGL 2.0 Achieves Pervasive Support from All Major Web Browsers
The issue isn’t JS. Sites are bloated because cheap/lazy/dont care. Also because ads are bloating and payload size isnmt really thought about much.
hmmokidk··on Ask HN: My coworker doesn't work. Does it make sense for me to say anything?
Talk to the colleague first not the manager if you do go down this route. But tbh you don’t know what they’re going through. And it’s also not your business, just do the work.

I had a colleague who would do little for months and didn’t mind it. In fact, because he would mind his own business I liked him more than my other colleagues.

I think you should mind your own business, unless for some reason this is your business, ie if you’re the manager.

hmmokidk··on Ask HN: What is your preferred/most commonly used stack and why?
Backend: Phoenix + Postgres

Frontend: Fairly variable, plain/embedded HTML or React

Deployment: PAAS first then terraform if it ever needs to be fine tuned

hmmokidk··on You're Not a 10x Programmer
There’s an obsession with hierarchies in this culture. Things that can’t be measured are.

Ancedotal:

Unstoppable midday naps

Vastly improved focus

But I had totally cut out processed sugar from my diet and I have always had a sweet tooth.

Might do it again sometime.

hmmokidk··on Actual impostors don't get impostor syndrome
The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt. -Bertrand Russell
hmmokidk··on Elixir: Practical Concurrency Cookbook
You may have done it already through RabbitMQ.

Also I want to comment that it is awesome and I love it. It’s simple and effective. OTP being bundled into the language is really very brilliant.

hmmokidk··on Good and Bad Elixir
You can use changesets or a similar pattern to avoid this.
hmmokidk··on Good and Bad Elixir
This captures exactly how I feel about with. Really good article.
hmmokidk··on A walk in nature is better than microdosing
I've lived in the US and Canada. Nobody goes on walks in California. In fact where I live under 1% of the city is green space. I hate walking in this city. My dog hates it as well. Can you believe that?

When we lived in a major city in Canada there was so much green space.

hmmokidk··on Hundreds of fishing vessels vanishing along Argentina’s waters
US ships trawl and overfish as well. The Anti-China sentiment is uncalled for.
hmmokidk··on Biodiversity decline will require millions of years to recover
In economic terms. This is an externality. The assumption, imho, is that others can profit from externalities. This externality may endanger our grandchildren and possibly even ourselves.
hmmokidk··on An early look at Postgres 14: Performance and monitoring Improvements
Are we still going to need PgBouncer when there are a large number of connections?
hmmokidk··on Working at a startup is overrated, both financially and emotionally
It’s a risk you were capable of taking. People without family they can depend on cannot take these risks. If some of us fall we fall into homelessness, for others their parents just bail them out. The people that risk homelessness do not start startups.

If you’re clever I believe you can get pretty far in this space. But it won’t be easy. Defining an MVP with an MMO is harder than probably any other application .
hmmokidk··on Brian Armstrong seeking cofounder on HN (2012)
I struggle with this. How do you know when to sell for good?

I suppose it is when you predict opinion is going to work against this and public opinion seems a very slow moving thing. Unless some sort of crazy event occurs.

hmmokidk··on Forgotten Memories of Traumatic Events Get Some Backing from Brain-Imaging
Not to suggest your experiences aren’t traumatic but it’s different when your parents/family hurt you emotionally, physically and otherwise. Also what is extremely traumatic for one person may not be as traumatic for another.
hmmokidk··on Ask HN: How do solo devs get feedback on their code?

hmmokidk··on Microbial ecosystems in the mouth and gut are linked to many ills
I say this all the time. There is a lot to say about this but anti-biotics aren't a silver bullet. There is a drawback to them bigger than any of us have really imagined.

There are a whole slew of mysterious illnesses probably caused by imbalances in the gut.

hmmokidk··on Kenyan recycles plastic waste into bricks stronger than concrete
We're leaving future generations with so much pollution, and now microplastics. Realistically this is a nightmare and it is unfortunate that the world we live in is so dystopian, so in need of wealth, that we're resorting to using garbage to build homes when there's a plethora of environmentally friendly materials we could use if only wealth wasn't centralized in so few hands.

But at least they get homes, I suppose. I know if I was in their position and needed a home I wouldn't care if it was made up of plastic bricks or not.
