hkiely··on Ask HN: Has MyFitnessPal sold customer data to Netflix?
It has to be part of one of the leaks.
hkiely··on Ask HN: What is happening with the stock exchange in the last two days?
We now have several rapid diagnostic options including disposables. There is much less cloudiness on the scientific front. I’m not sure why else.
hkiely··on Ask HN: How to convince my client to pay more?
People on the freelancing aggregators are businesses. It really often comes down to being able to do what you can afford to do. When a client doesn’t understand the time it takes to put together what looks good, often there can be an ultimatum. It’s extremely hard when the individual doesn’t have concept of time or design.
hkiely··on Ask HN: How to convince my client to pay more?
Often times the only thing you can do is walk away. When individuals have no understanding / concept of time or they simply don’t care a choice has to be made.
hkiely··on FDA clears ‘world’s first’ portable, low-cost MRI
“According to Connecticut-based Hyperfine, their machine will cost $50,000, which is 20-times cheaper than traditional systems, runs on 35-times less power and weights 10 times less than normal 1.5T MRI machines.”

I believe GE came out with MRI machines a while back that were specific for limbs. This really does not seem much different other than it is on wheels and you can possibly position over a torso in a bed if it isn’t metal.

hkiely··on Ask HN: What job can a “jack of all trades” look for?
Product management is an excellent role, the jobs are not easy to land. You often need specific product execution and delivery experience.
hkiely··on The dystopian world of software engineering interviews
I believe this is becoming more common.
hkiely··on Gears
I remember learning gear size ratios in sixth grade math class with special LEGO sets.
hkiely··on What Just Happened in Iowa?
All of the conservative commentators are comparing this application to the launch of healthcare.gov. However, that was lengthy piecemeal code. I have yet to hear anything about this.
hkiely··on Tesla's self driving algorithm's overlay [video]
Shouldn’t this jitter be seen purely as additional accuracy to the human eye? It isn’t like there is a need for motion stabilization in execution of the algorithm.
hkiely··on Ask HN: How to explain job gaps on the resume?
When returning to the workplace, the issue quickly turns to references.
hkiely··on Ask HN: How to explain job gaps on the resume?
Often times recruiters are not allowed to probe any further once you bring up a medical issue. The difficulty then becomes, being able to draw upon relevant and timely situations to answer questions in an interview.
hkiely··on Ask HN: Career Advice on Engineering Manager vs. Product Manager
In my opinion, product management roles are extremely difficult to land. I’m not sure that an MBA would provide the necessary skills. However, it might provide additional connections.
hkiely··on Ask HN: What were the things you did that made the biggest impact at your work?
The obvious answer to this question is often increasing gross sales through design improvements. Also, finding correlations with data can also be extremely helpful.
hkiely··on Ask HN: How do you maintain your medical record?
Thanks!
hkiely··on Writing Safe Shell Scripts (2019)
Which is best for simply catching typing errors? Shell check? I never saw the instillation instructions for oil.
hkiely··on Ask HN: What can I do at home to grow professionally?
In my opinion, side projects are the best way. However the real struggle comes growing professionally as a developer without other people to learn from. If you are doing this full time, you can always gain exposure to others in a local coworking space.
hkiely··on Ask HN: How do you maintain your medical record?
If you ever want to share and blur out information, I would love to see screen shots of the portals where all of this comes together. Everything is more expensive in Denmark. Does that VAT that you pay, get applied directly to the healthcare system?
hkiely··on Ask HN: How do you maintain your medical record?
Do you know how the system works, when you download laboratory values and different facilities have different reference ranges?
hkiely··on Ask HN: How do you maintain your medical record?
I’m not really sure how far blue button has integrated past the VA. While you may be able to retrieve your records and bring them with you on a flash drive, they might still be in a proprietary format such as a Lucy file. If you have complex medical issues - most of the clinicians at the leading academic medical centers want paper. The best way to do this, is to simply get a copy of the clinic note, if it is not included in the discharge summary. Scanning files into google drive is a way to archive them. You can quickly print notes and carry them in a binder with tabs when needed.
hkiely··on Ask HN: How to avoid being psychologically manipulated by the media?
Always make sure you are on the same page as those who you are following or getting information from. For instance, if you are friends with a journalist, make sure they don’t and up with bits and pieces of your story before it goes on to spread to become nationally syndicated news. You may end up reading another story that contains parts of those facts where all of it isn’t fully correct as it has dysiminated from other sources. When you are constantly exposed you may be imprinted to believe something else.
hkiely··on Ask HN: Which futuristic companies are you excited about?
TriNetX - is building a federated network for identifying patients out of electronic medical records and writing protocols more effectively.

Recursion pharmaceuticals - has identified numerous compounds in preclinical development on what seems to be a shoestring budget for a biotech company.

hkiely··on An In-Depth Analysis of a Piece of Shit
This may be the best posting all year.
hkiely··on Ask HN: How can I get over my lethargy, lack of focus, and other problems?
Maybe you should look into ME/CFS and see if you have any of the other symptoms.
hkiely··on Ask HN: What medical datasets do you need?
If you are interested in working on ME /CFS, please contact me.
hkiely··on PatientBank (YC S16) Is Creating a Unified Medical Record System
As someone who's worked in drug discovery and development, I wish finding bio-markers and drugging targets were this easy so we could improve the lives of millions of patients. Patient phenotypic information is locked up in the clinic notes often as free text or is no longer entered very well at all because doctors are rushed seeing more patients. Tools like The human Phenotype ontology format help solve this problem and are being used in translational biomedical informatics. http://human-phenotype-ontology.github.io/downloads.html
hkiely··on PatientBank (YC S16) Is Creating a Unified Medical Record System
How are you different from Picnic Health or CareSync?
hkiely··on I Am Sam Altman, President of Y Combinator. AMA
Hi Sam,

What do you think is the best way for someone to express the challenges and circumstances in life they deal with and work to overcome. These typically aren't things one would list on a resume.

Thanks

hkiely··on Harvard University – CS109 Data Science
Cs50 combined both theoretical and applied principles. Are there any specific prerequisites for this?
hkiely··on Show HN: Medical Research Summarizer – Complex research as simple summaries
