Better late than never.
hitovst··on The Constitutionality of Civil Forfeiture (2016)
We are occupied. All who are complicit can never allow us to become a lawful society.
hitovst··on .01% of Bitcoin holders hold 27% of all Bitcoin
People think there are 21M Bitcoin, but they have no idea how many millions have been lost forever already, and how many will continue to be lost going forward.

I wonder how many of those 27% are lost.

hitovst··on Town Seized Building, Offered to Return It If Owners Bought Two Cars for Police
Reminds me of the ATF issuing Leathermans with "ATF Always Think Forfeiture" engraved on them.

Any forfeiture, or any supposed necessary violation of individual rights, should require investigation, and should cost the organization behind it, regardless of outcome. This may seem difficult to work, but incentivizing the opposite is completely absurd, and makes corruption inevitable.

hitovst··on Ask HN: Should I learn the tech behind crypto even if I don't want to own any?
They are networks worth understanding. Though the signal is flooded with noise, and there are many scams to every sincere effort, the evolution of strategies to adapt to the many issues we face are interesting, and will become increasingly more important.

I assume that if you don't bother now, you'll eventually feel compelled to. I would definitely recommend understanding how Bitcoin works before investing in any cryptocurrency.

hitovst··on Ask HN: How are you preparing for the recession?
I forgot to mention, tend to your relationships. Stop wasting time on the ones that don't benefit you, and start strengthening the ones that do. Be prepared to help the people you care about, and possibly share a home.
hitovst··on Ask HN: How are you preparing for the recession?
Reduce overhead as much as possible. Reduce debt (least safe first) as much as possible. Invest in necessities that you and your family can consume/use.

People have all kinds of theories about what will be best currency, and stockpile stuff they can't consume/use. Cover your basis first.

Invest in any skill that will enable you to produce something.

hitovst··on Narcissism is rampant, so how do we address it?
End the dysgenic forced redistribution of wealth, and people will be forced to adapt to reality. If we continue to tolerate forced redistribution of wealth, it only goes one way, and it's the opposite of "addressing it".
hitovst··on New York Now Has More Airbnb Listings Than Apartments for Rent
I'd suggest that regulation is typically the issue, and it is in the case too. Investing in real estate is not for everyone, and not just based on the merit of one as a landlord. Some states are complete nonstarters unless you can pay for influence.

The only legitimate role of the state is to defend the inalienable rights of the individual. They should not be interfering in contracts. This type of meddling overreach is usually the issue, but is always an issue. There are many consequences, both intended, and unintended, and recognized, and unrecognized.

hitovst··on New York Now Has More Airbnb Listings Than Apartments for Rent
Would you rather more revenue, and deal with happy, and appreciative, tenants, or less revenue, more liability, and adversarial tenants?
hitovst··on New York Now Has More Airbnb Listings Than Apartments for Rent
Part of the problem would be long term tenants are facing is of their own collective making. Well, that and regulations. That being the difference in experience when dealing with short term Airbnb tenants who are often on vacation, and long term tenants. The attitude is completely different. Unfortunately, long term tenants are too often adversarial. They feel entitled, and are apt to pursue litigation against you. They too often will attempt to dodge their liabilities, and leave them with the property owner &/or landloard. Short term, vacation, tenants appreciate the business. They even occasionally buy gifts, and send thank you cards. On top of that, they have a reputation at stake. Airbnb insulates the landlord from some issues. I know of landlord who had little, but noticeable, damage done to a nice couch by an Airbnb tenant, and one photo and email to Airbnb had the full price to replace to couch reimbursed. It couldn't be any more different in trying to be made whole by ex-tenants without Airbnb in the middle.

Bad landlords get annihilated in real estate. Airbnb has solved a lot of issues for them. Unless an owner, or location/property, precludes Airbnb for whatever reason, there isn't a compelling case to not rent through them.

Maybe there is a market opportunity for a similar company but for long term rentals.

hitovst··on Workers deserve the right to disconnect (2021)
99% of the time,"deserve" applies to that which we have. Of course we have the right to "disconnect". People have to take responsibility for themselves. In the US, there are now two jobs for every one person looking for work. It always has been, and will be, up to someone to agree to the terms offered, and they may always refuse.

I know it's en vogue to pretend that everyone is a helpless idiot being taken advantage of, and that they need to be rescued by the state.. and that is partially responsible for the lack of accountability people have for their situation.

No one must connect to anything if they don't choose to. Take responsibility for your agreements, and meet them.

hitovst··on $3B in Bitcoin was sold in a last-ditch attempt to save UST from collapse
Sooner or later people are going to have to actually understand Bitcoin, and will then see that 99% of the rest of crypto are scams.

If you don't understand that freedom is the most relevant part of Bitcoin/crypto, you probably also don't understand that the few good things you take for granted if life are due to the remaining residue of freedom.. and why you didn't care when slavers eliminated it.

Figure it out soon, and save yourself things even more important than wealth.

hitovst··on IQ scores are falling and have been for decades (2018)
Forced redistribution of wealth is dysgenic, and there is no single greater indicator for success in life than IQ.
hitovst··on Texas’ Unconstitutional Social Media Law Allowed to Proceed
When the criminal "Civil Rights Act" came to be, people got confused about what is public property, and what is private property and no one else's business.

hitovst··on Master at Arms Badge for Boy Scouts (1925) [pdf]
I had no idea! I'd be curious to look at founding documents to see what Boy Scouts was before it was corrupted.
hitovst··on The ACLU Has Lost Its Way
AS long as we tolerate the world reserve fiat global enslavement system, everything that can be corrupted will be corrupted.

With some perspective, you'll see most things are the opposite of what they were intended, or claim, to be.

hitovst··on Disinformation Is a Threat to Our Democracy
We don't have a democracy, but a Constitutionally restricted Republic, with democratically elected representatives who have sworn an oath to defend individual rights.

Having said that, "hate speech" is nothing. Individual has freedom to communicate truth, which makes the individual press. What isn't free speech is, for example, shouting "FIRE" in a theater when there isn't one. In other words, what is commonly referred to as "press" are criminal lying terrorists, and the individual who speaks the truth is press.

The one thing our founding fathers were certain of, is that we'd not be a "democracy", or tyranny of largest group which is almost never a majority.

The liars at some point swapped "democracy" for "freedom", and "liberty", hoping people would forget the point of the United States, and the Supreme Law of the Land. Democracy is nothing but communism in waiting, which end is famine and genocide.

If only some of the oath takers were oath keepers, we could have liberty and justice.

hitovst··on UST Stablecoin Loses Dollar Peg
Fraud. Any chance there will be justice? I won't hold my breath.
hitovst··on Ask HN: Why does nobody support h.265/HEVC anymore?
"IP" isn't property.

Also, only decentralizing, open source, individual empowering, tech, isn't anti-human.

hitovst··on Everything with a battery should have an off switch
This doesn't cover all the unwanted surveillance tools we pay to have spy on us.
hitovst··on Apple's director of machine learning resigns due to return to office work
It's amazing how bigoted some of the employees are. Having never witnessed the type of racism until recently when it has become en vogue, it's disgusting, and incredible how people admit their bigotry, and how others tolerate it.

It is interesting that the employees seem to realize that before technology allowed for people to work remotely, it was more an issue of individual merit that determined who had which jobs. They'd probably not admit it, but that is consistent with their claims given the circumstances.

hitovst··on Tell HN: AT&T disabled phone numbers and accounts of users using the old phones
The rep said that 6G was coming soon, and my friend asked if the 5G phones would all be made as worthless as the 4G LTE phones are now. This was one of the reasons given for not wanting to purchase a new phone when their phone still worked with every band AT&T used in the area (which was proven correct when they reactivated the SIM).
hitovst··on Tell HN: AT&T disabled phone numbers and accounts of users using the old phones
A friend of mine uses AT&T and they shut off service to the SIM saying it was due to AT&T no longer offering 3G. My friend pointed out that the phone hadn't used anything but 4G, or LTE, in the last few years, and the phone didn't require 3G. AT&T suggested it was due to the move to 5G, and the phone wasn't 5G compatible. My friend pointed out that AT&T doesn't offer 5G coverage in the area. AT&T claimed the phone would not work. That was not the case. My friend explained that the phone would work with every band offered by AT&T in the area, and asked the rep to say so if it was simply a matter of AT&T prohibiting the phone. AT&T then returned service to the phone.

Unfortunately, the rep insisted that all telcos would follow suit, and there would be no phones used without 5G compatibility soon.

hitovst··on Apple, Google and Microsoft Commit to Expanded Support for FIDO Standard

hitovst··on 'Patriotic millionaires' in the U.K. call for higher taxes on themselves
There is nothing more important than freedom, including life, which is why real patriots will give their life to protect it.

Without property rights, there isn't freedom. Forced redistribution of wealth is slavery, and dysgenic.

hitovst··on 'Patriotic millionaires' in the U.K. call for higher taxes on themselves
"On themselves". If anyone believes that, they could tell them that they're free to contribute more on top of what they're forced to pay.

As usual, "Patriotic" is used when the opposite is true.

hitovst··on Gnome patent troll stripped of patent rights
Either we build open source, decentralizing, individual empowering, tech, or we work in support of our own enslavement. I know; we all wish it weren't so. It does not matter.
