hit8run··on The struggle of resizing windows on macOS Tahoe
Those big radius borders are a waste of space just for the sake of fashion. Form follows function not the other way around.
hit8run··on Latest SteamOS Beta Now Includes Ntsync Kernel Driver
Cookie Banner too annoying, won’t read.
hit8run··on I switched from VSCode to Zed
Don’t tell bro about SublimeText
hit8run··on It's hard to justify Tahoe icons
Material Design?
hit8run··on Ruby website redesigned
Ruby is GOATED. You can say what you want but Ruby coupled with Rails is the most productive web stack period.

Why you might ask? - Omakase Stack - high level is good for business processes - modern concepts without JS ecosystem churn - great testing capabilities - great ecosystem - highly effective stack for LLMs (conventions)

Is it fast in Benchmark Games - not by any means. Will you be able to finish projects and make money with it? Absolutely.

hit8run··on Tiny Core Linux: a 23 MB Linux distro with graphical desktop
Is there a reason the site doesn't support HTTPS? For a distro offering ISO downloads, this seems like a meaningful security gap -> it makes MITM attacks trivial for anyone on the network path.
hit8run··on Anthropic acquires Bun
I love bun but for a cli tool: why they don’t write Claude Code in Go and call it a day?
hit8run··on Racket v9.0
What is the use case for this?
hit8run··on China reaches energy milestone by "breeding" uranium from thorium
Meanwhile Germany just decommissioned its last nuclear reactors. Given the challenges of baseload renewable generation, it's frustrating to watch working infrastructure being dismantled while we're still heavily dependent on fossil fuels.
hit8run··on Beginner-friendly, unofficial documentation for Helix text editor
But you can always fork when you have different opinions or write your own thing. SQLite is governed in the same way.
hit8run··on Beginner-friendly, unofficial documentation for Helix text editor
Many complain here about the helix maintainers pace and PR rejection rate. I embrace it. It’s opinionated software developed in the open and you can fork any time. I prefer this model of strict high quality governance and a “no” as default to keep their vision clear.
hit8run··on Beginner-friendly, unofficial documentation for Helix text editor
Hey nice to have you here. I found your cheatsheet and printed it out a while ago :D
hit8run··on Beginner-friendly, unofficial documentation for Helix text editor
Your cheatsheet has some hallucinations in there. For example there is no :git command

you can do "! git status" etc

There is some other integration for git like SPACE + g to see file changes for example

hit8run··on Rails 8.1: Job continuations, structured events, local CI
Good stuff.
hit8run··on What Dynamic Typing Is For
Just read this article and it vibes with my personal journey. I've built and maintained many web applications for more than 20 years. PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, Dotnet, Go, Node, Bun etc.

The most maintainable codebase is the one that requires the least guessing from the developers perspective. Where everyone that looks at the code immediately gets a good understanding of what is going on. When it comes to this I personally had the best experience with Go so far as it is verbose when it comes to error handling (I don't need to guess what happens or what can go wrong etc.). Is it the most elegant? No, but I don't need to build a big context window in my brain to understand what is going on immediately (looking at you Rails callbacks).

Anyways I found the article interesting and as I am also using SQLC I think it is something that goes in that direction.

hit8run··on Zed's Pricing Has Changed: LLM Usage Is Now Token-Based
Say what you want but Sublime is the GOAT.
hit8run··on Next.js is infuriating
Tobi is Ex-Rails Core contributor and Shopify is significantly contributing to Rails and Ruby.
hit8run··on Show HN: Port Kill – A lightweight macOS status bar development port monitor
Which is perfectly fine and a fun thing to do. I personally use the terminal but such a little monitoring tool can be quite fun and we should embrace the fun in doing things more. People over here are so soaked up by the Open Source as a business model VC-Pitch that they can't believe it when someone builds a little hobby tool with no business plan for a multi billion dollar exit. You're doing it right buddy. Don't let these Crypto-SaaS-AI-Bros ruin the fun for you.
hit8run··on Claude Code IDE integration for Emacs
I want something like this for helix!
hit8run··on DaisyUI: Tailwind CSS Components
BeerCSS, Bulma, Bootstrap, UIKit, Foundation. Feel free to add other full blown alternatives that offer a concept of primary, secondary for buttons etc.
hit8run··on Show HN: McWig – A modal, Vim-like text editor written in Go
Love it! I'm a big fan of code terminal ui code editors. Currently for that purpose Helix is my daily driver. Will try out yours shortly and don't let anyone discourage you! Keep going. Adaption will follow.
hit8run··on uBlock Origin is no longer available on the Chrome Store
How fitting: I am also no longer available for Chrome.

Safari on the Mac and Firefox on Linux and Windows it is for me.

hit8run··on Extensible WASM Applications with Go
Sounds interesting. What context? How can I imagine this?
hit8run··on I still like Sublime Text
I use Sublime everyday and pay for it for more than 10 years. It’s hands down the best piece of proprietary software I ever bought. I heavily customize Sublime and supercharge it with a few high quality plugins. I also contribute to the ecosystem. To another 10 sublime years.
hit8run··on Tailwind CSS v4.0
I like tailwind but think it’s not needed anymore as CSS got better. Utility frameworks don’t necessarily need a build step.

I forked and finished Tachyons successor Tachyons 5: It has container queries built in and p3 colors.

https://github.com/gobijan/tachyons5/blob/main/tachyons5.css

If you need very sophisticated layouts write them in plain css. For quick styling utilities are awesome.

Unpopular opinion. Now downvote me to the ground.

hit8run··on Engineering "home-cooked" software
I can relate. But home-cooking is also often reinventing the wheel. Core logic should be home-cooked but general aspects are probably best solved using battle proven 3rd party dependencies? What you guys think?
hit8run··on Let's Quit X
Why would one want to to quit X and move to the same kind of platform somewhere else?
hit8run··on Ruby 3.4 Highlights
I have a love-hate relationship with Ruby. On one hand, it's a very expressive language that's excellent for building structured, lightweight applications. On the other hand, it requires significant discipline and a strong memory of your codebase and all the different types in play. When you combine this highly dynamic nature with Rails, especially its concerns and hooks, it can become extremely challenging to understand what's actually happening in the system.
hit8run··on What's Next for WebGPU
Don't know for you but for me the next thing for WebGPU is uninstalling Google Chrome. Manifest v3 my ass.
