Assuming you're happy with your relationship with work and it's a healthy relationship, and you still don't have enough time, getting professional admin help from someone might help.
I haven't heard of software engineers in VC startup land or corporate world hiring personal assistants but in the freelance / consulting world it's very common and an amazing way to "level up" yourself as a professional. It's ok to need help and it's ok to hire someone who enjoys helping with personal or professional admin tasks.
You can start out with a virtual assistant for a few hundred bucks a month and can find one on Craigslist or a branded service like Zirtual.
I have a VA help with routine marketing / admin tasks in my business and then impromptu one-off personal tasks like booking flights, hiring task rabbits, booking doctors' appointments, etc.
I know not everyone is in a place to afford this but I think most engineers are if they are thoughtful about their finances. I'd highly recommend trying it out.
They buy the results promised not the method to delivering the results.
Sorry to everyone who received the opposite emails. If you believe in your vision, keep focused on serving your customers and growing your business.
When the forum was introduced I was bummed at first but it’s really turned into a fantastic community and resource to me. It’s what I feel HN might have been like in the early days.
HN draws a really diverse audience beyond founders and the even smaller niche of bootstrap founders. People that I feel might shut down basic or “dumb” questions about business and marketing. I like HN just the way it is but it’s not an effective platform for these discussions.
The IH community is smaller so that I feel like I’ve gotten to know a lot of regulars. My questions and requests for feedback spark real valuable discussions. It’s been a really motivating and helpful resource for myself as a solopreneur.
All that being said, I hope (and know) Courtland and Channing can find good ways to serve everyone who gets value from the IH brand and content.

The bot experience gives it kind of a rap genius commentary from the original author. So it almost feels like you're reading the post with the author present next to you.
Take a look at Adrian Zumbrunnen's personal site: https://azumbrunnen.me/
(Unfortunately their SSL cert has expired so you have to click "Proceed Anyway")
It's an embedded chat with Adrian.
I feel like it's an equally valid experience vs. reading their CV and recent projects. By clicking through the chat I not only learn about the site author's expertise but also learn a bit about their personality.
I know I'm not really chatting with them but it still feels more personal and human.
For better or for worse I feel there is definitely a market for some version of this.
Would this allow for full stack ruby apps?
Writing a client side router and controllers in Ruby on Rails compiled to web assembly?
If you could just toggle in production.rb if you want your routing to be client side or server side and the framework could transparently manage that for you.

Also watch the CEO of Segment talk about their journey to product market fit.
Meaning, as a baseline, if I pay for a training I'm going to get more out of it because I'm psychologically motivated to do so because of the financial investment.
There are other ways to make someone "feel like they have skin in the game" but a price tag works.
The most recent online training I purchased was Brennan Dunn's "Double Your Freelancing Rate" course and it was definitely a good investment for me. It's easier to justify a course like this because it more of sales / marketing training and can quickly pay for itself in new business it helps you generate.
I used to subscribe to Avdi Grimm's Ruby Tapas which was another great investment at the time. I haven't purchased any of his courses, but Wes Bos looks to produce good premium content.
If you can delegate your voting power totally or granularly on a per issue basis to other individuals--while maintaining the ability to revoke your voting power from said individuals you can get the benefits of representative democracy and direct democracy at once.
Would love someone more informed to discuss the cons of liquid or delegative democracy.
Any suggestions on how to prevent that scenario?
1. Connect with leader of organization on Linkedin. 2. Wait 3 days. 3. Send one line email to leader of organization politely requesting a referral down to the decision maker and stakeholder you'd like to speak with. 4. Have initial qualifying conversation with stakeholder.
This leads to a much higher connect rate than just calling in cold.
I prefer to not use Helpers and AR callbacks (generally Concerns too) as I don’t think they encourage good OO even though they are officially part of rails.
Ultimately it comes down to what your goal is. Is it to deliver some business value fast to end users? Build a new product with a small team? Then I think rails is a great tool to achieve that.

Advertisers see incremental value in advertising on their brand traffic for many reasons including directing traffic, controlling messaging, etc. plus in some cases have seen incremental gains in brand traffic. See this blog post for more details.

Therefore what is interesting to me about combining a paid brand banner ad and organic links is the limited control the advertiser has in directing their brand traffic or controlling the copy whether the headline or site links. They also lose the ability to report on that traffic as paid brand traffic which is probably fine to the advertiser as the traffic is then reflected as a corresponding increase in organic.
Again to spankalee's point it is an experiment so I am sure the functionality will develop over time.
