hexfish··on Show HN: Whispering – Open-source, local-first dictation you can trust
What does Virustotal say?
hexfish··on Show HN: Pangolin – Open source alternative to Cloudflare Tunnels
Are you aware that serving media streams over the tunnel might be against the ToS? This is what kept me from using it tbh.
hexfish··on Andreessen Horowitz Leaves Delaware for Nevada, Tells Startups to Follow
It's as close to a network state as they can get right now I suppose.
hexfish··on Should we design for iffy internet?
Where would one get these MP3 files? Not everything is on Bandcamp and torrenting everything feels like a part time job, but maybe I just have too much music I like.

I still remember spending days inside during summers as a kid, downloading, cataloging and tagging MP3 files while others were probably experiencing life haha.

But I do long for the days where I could just press 'play' and I would hear music, without waiting for Spotify's Electron crap to finish loading its 'optimistic UI', declining 10 cookie popups and agreeing to upload the soul of my unborn kids to Daniel Ek's private cloud.

hexfish··on I Built My Own Audio Player
Vouching for Fiio. They make really nice stuff! Never tried their audio players but the few Fiio DAC's I have used all felt really premium, especially for the price.
hexfish··on A Comment on Mozilla's Policy Changes
What do you mean by glowies? In this context.
hexfish··on What does this button do? – My new car has a mysterious and undocumented switch
Having seen setups like this before this is pretty likely indeed.
hexfish··on Bitwarden SDK relicensed from proprietary to GPLv3
Frankly I would worry about that with any third party that holds my data. There are a few Bitwarden exporters on Github that also account for attachments (something the builtin exporter doesn't for some reason).
hexfish··on Huly – Open-source project management platform
Which blunder are you referring to?
hexfish··on Scrum's “Product Owner” Problem
Please don't confuse anarchy with chaos.

Say what? haha

hexfish··on My Obsidian note-taking workflow
Most plugins do afaik. I am using plenty!
hexfish··on Anonymous crypto wallets now illegal in the EU
Thats not entirely true. For example: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/jan/11/dutch-ca...
hexfish··on Apple announces ability to download apps directly from websites in EU
Aren't you still going to be paying that Core Technology fee once your FOSS non-profit app gets popular? I guess you would have to get that waiver but that's far from trivial[1], especially for an individual that just likes to publish an FOSS/free-as-in-beer app out of kindness.

hexfish··on GrapheneOS finds Bluetooth memory corruption via ARM MTE
And Netflix can't be installed (at least through the Play store) because of restrictions from Netflix' side (I suppose). But that's okay, I can just stop my subscription through the web interface.
hexfish··on Tell HN: Hard to change default search engine in Chrome to DuckDuckGo
I don't disagree necessarily but can you back that up for the people on the fence?
hexfish··on Nebula is not the fastest mesh VPN, but neither are the others
id for issue about ipv6: 6
hexfish··on How to commit part of file in Git
+1 for lazygit, and I say this as someone who has used git exclusively on the cli for years and still continues to do so. It's just that lazygit makes staging hunks, squashing and rebasing such a joy.
hexfish··on FURY – How a Museum with a Sherman Made a Movie [video]
Spotted the Panzerführer.
hexfish··on Bluetooth keystroke-injection in Android, Linux, macOS and iOS
Not everyone cares about the aesthetics of their tools or shares your sense of aesthetics (minimalism). Furthermore: OP and things like mousejack are exactly tbe reason why some people will not use a wireless input device.

Keyboards are used to enter secrets so they rank pretty high in my threat model.

hexfish··on Using FIDO keys
Very useful! Thanks!
hexfish··on A case for moving away from the cloud and embracing local storage solutions
Well it's an important point, but I don't think the author of OP argues you shouldn't do that.

By the way: have a look at restic, it's great (if you don't require a GUI).

hexfish··on You think you secured your Hetzner account with 2FA? Think again
That doesn't sound too strange. A lot of 'official' stuff in Germany is/was still done through physical letters because of legal requirements.
hexfish··on Omnivore – free, open source, read-it-later App
As far as I know Omnivore is not a note app like Evernotes is. You could link Omnivore to your notes app to export highlights and such. I believe they maintain a plugin for Obsidian and Notion.
hexfish··on Anti-Anti-Adblocker uBlock filter to get rid of the annoying YouTube message
Disable 'auto play next video'
hexfish··on Show HN: I got tired of reading "This posting has been deleted by its author"
It's a bit more convoluted than just installing a browser extension but you could set something up with -for example- Archivebox: https://github.com/ArchiveBox/ArchiveBox/wiki/Scheduled-Arch...
