Notepad has been an annoyance for decades. Before I clicked the link I thought there might be enhanced features and reworked usability. Unfortunately the new features fall short. The one they seem proudest of is a dark mode.

My perspective (limited use of IntelliJ) is that the editor is very geared towards Java, which I loath and despise. Maybe this is an unfair prejudiced. I also like working from the command line.

I switched from Firefox and I've been happy so far. It's not perfect, but not as bad as the others. As others have said here be careful what extensions you install.

This is a good opportunity to discuss Solaris in general. I've used Solaris for fun in the past. I couldn't get hooked on it. It seemed overly-complex and not very user friendly. I'm a very long time Linux user and I use BSD as well.

What were the primary use cases for Solaris in its prime? Is it still used anywhere now?

I don't know what it is that makes Microsoft so inelegant. Not only what you've said, but their APIs / programming environment in general is ugly and (I presume) unwieldy. Their apps (I just switched to Excel / OneNote / etc. from Google) have bugs that don't exist with competitors. The other day I couldn't use OneNote because my Internet went down (?!). Same for Excel, it doesn't reload immediately upon reconnect like Google Sheets did.

I don't get Microsoft. They're huge. They hire a lot of people. Their products are kludges.
