hellothere1337··on Productivity has fallen, and experts are puzzled. I’m not. We’re all just tired
We are being gaslighted that there's an epidemic of quiet quitting when quiet quitting has been defined as "not staying on unpaid overtime". We're being told that remote work is killing America because inner city office rental properties have lost value. In the end however its just a way to manufacture consent for the inevitable layoffs that will soon hit the economy. The Federal Reserve stated explicitly that they will stop inflation by increasing unemployment because there are no other levers left.
hellothere1337··on Climate change: Six tipping points ‘likely’ to be crossed
And yet all our technological innovations have incurred a huge amount of technical debt in the form of carbon emissions. The result of that debt is fast approaching and I'm not seeing how we're going to science ourselves out of this one without incurring more debt.
hellothere1337··on A brief history of nobody wants to work anymore
my bad, havent been in silicon valley for long enough to get the jargon yet. Ironically on a H1B visa too heh
hellothere1337··on A brief history of nobody wants to work anymore
This is usually a dogwhistle for more immigration, I've seen it happen first hand in my country. Once wages started to reach a liveable standard most employers wouldnt hire anymore, especially in the blue collar sectors. Then they imported cheap temporary labour and exploited those people for pennies and then sent them back broken to their country.
hellothere1337··on Key senators have voted for the anti-encryption EARN IT act
How come everyone is so surprised and thinks the senators are incompetent? They're all following the playbook and its in not in the elites interest for the average person to have privacy.
hellothere1337··on The Sinister Return of Eugenics
More fundamentally however eugenics is baked into reality. For a simple example look at how well you are when you are handsome, smart, healthy, tall and fit. And look at how you are treated when you are the opposite. I do not want to add any ethical qualifier to this but it is reality.
hellothere1337··on What is actually a heretical view?
Looking at how communication broke down in the past few years on different social media websites I can firmly proclaim that most people consider a view heretical if it doesnt align perfectly with their own view.
hellothere1337··on Can progressives be convinced that genetics matters?
You can see how much genetics matter with how people treat ugly/deformed people. They pretend they're not biased while forcing you to jump through hundreds of hoops to prove yourself and then gaslight you into saying looks dont matter.
hellothere1337··on Supply Chain Shortages Continue Around the World. Get Used to It
If inflation is 5% this year and 2% next year. Does that make the 5% spike transitory? It doesn't seem like it.
hellothere1337··on First US Census Bureau Report on Growing Childless Older Adult Population
People dont need to go into therapy if they dont agree with your worldview.
hellothere1337··on First US Census Bureau Report on Growing Childless Older Adult Population
Nice way of gaslighting him into thinking he's insane
hellothere1337··on First US Census Bureau Report on Growing Childless Older Adult Population
For the sake of your sanity, do not google "male virginity rates after introduction of the smartphone"
hellothere1337··on First US Census Bureau Report on Growing Childless Older Adult Population
I will die alone and forgotten by the world but at least I will be carbon neutral
hellothere1337··on Why can't we just give steroids to people with muscular dystrophy?
Well if you're speaking from an incentive point of view. The incentive of society is to keep men as docile as possible. Testosterone is not the best hormone to achieve this effect. On the other hand estrogen is quite freely given if you want to go the other way. Giving testosterone to people dying from dystrophy would open the discussion of steroids and it would counter the narrative that steroids are the worst drugs in existence, designed to kill you the moment you take a miligram.
hellothere1337··on The Zettelkasten Method (2019)
Seems like an underlying pattern of humanity. It happens with Agile, scientific methodology, even religion. A person reaches a truth through an earnest desire for truth and then everyone else tries to copy him as a shortcut to reach the same truth.
hellothere1337··on The Zettelkasten Method (2019)
Cant make courses that require thousands of dollars, blog posts, an entire online brand based on simple principles.
hellothere1337··on Is Norway the New East India Company?
The problem will never be the seller, its the demand thats problematic. Solve the problem of demand with suitable alternatives and you have solved global warming. Of course blaming those who produce and sell is easier but they're selling it to someone too.
hellothere1337··on Amazon rainforest now emitting more CO2 than it absorbs
People are using the euphemism large scale political action. But what does this large scale political action mean for the billions that only now are starting to get a decent standard of living and wont accept a no?
hellothere1337··on US-Canada heatwave 'virtually impossible' without warming
Everybody is thinking about how tech will save us again from this conundrum. About how we will science the shit out of this. But of course nobody wants to talk about how we have added 1 billion people in a decade. People that will want living standards similar or better than ours and who will fight to get them. Will you science the shit out of them as well? Maybe with some drone based genocide?
hellothere1337··on Pfizer vaccine reprograms innate immune responses
I like seeing the strategy of asking for the highest level of accuracy and testing for all things that do not confirm my biases while being more lax about the things that confirm my biases. I've seen this strategy becoming much more popular these past few years.
hellothere1337··on Bias is a big problem so is Noise – Daniel Kahneman
I heard reproducibility is also a problem mister Kahneman
hellothere1337··on Why are there so many people in prison in America? (2017)
Why, its profitable isn't it good sir?
hellothere1337··on LiveLeak shuts down after 15 years online
I'm merely explaining how it got to the current situation from my own point of view. There is no money in showing the real consequences of people's actions. People pay to be coddled and have their biases confirmed. Without any money you cannot maintain a considerable online presence (especially content hosting).
hellothere1337··on LiveLeak shuts down after 15 years online
Seeing a child trying to gather the pieces of his mother after getting shredded by an Apache gunship undermines government propaganda. If something makes you realize you're probably not always the good guy bringing democracy then that something is quite dangerous and it should be removed.
hellothere1337··on Co-founder of Neuralink leaves the company
Indeed if you want to make a living opting out of certain technologies is impossible despite their invasive effects. Imagine competing with a programmer than can solve leetcode / code an entire system in a few seconds using such a brain interface. It would be somewhat difficult to attain that kind of productivity with old I/O devices
hellothere1337··on Co-founder of Neuralink leaves the company
Hopefully it's a brief respite. The day we manage to create a brain interface is the day when the privacy of our own thoughts will begin to fade.
hellothere1337··on Charlie Munger calls BTC disgusting and contrary to the interest of civilization
Why are all these billionaires singling out bitcoin?
hellothere1337··on Feds Arrest an Alleged $336M Bitcoin-Laundering Kingpin
Sterlingov? Nominative determinism?
hellothere1337··on Iterable CEO Justin Zhu ousted for taking LSD at work
I find it hilarious that inbetween Alex Jones' schizophrenic rants he seemed to have touched on a nugget of wisdom by saying that the government is giving LSD to people in order to get in touch with higher entities (for technological ideas and so on). I mean that's most likely not what's happening but LSD does seem to make me much more creative at problem solving, and it ties to the idea that most of your useful ideas come when you drop your ego and thinking and just sleep on the problem.
