heironimus··on A bill in Congress legalizes cell phone unlocking and fixes the DMCA
I want to know this too. When I see thing like "This fixes the DMCA", it makes me question the intentions of the advocating website. It sounds too good to be true.
heironimus··on “The Tesla Model S is our top-scoring car”
You haven't worked for an enterprise software firm, have you? ;-)
heironimus··on Tesla Model S Suspension Walkaround
Yeah. You cannot just buy a $1000 computer and go at it like software. Just think of the work/cost it takes to design stuff like this.

Maybe when 3D printers get better...

heironimus··on Tesla Model S Suspension Walkaround
Everybody thinks this is cool, but nobody (myself included) knows enough about car suspensions to comment!
heironimus··on MacBook Pro declared 'best performing' Windows laptop
They test things like Windows crashes, hangs, and BSOD's per week. I assume Macs have much lower occurrences of these because most of the time spent on them is in OSX rather than Windows.

My personal Mac is better than any of these. I has 0 Windows errors per week because I don't run Windows on it.

Not exactly an objective measure.

heironimus··on The Security Mindset (2008)
This is really old (2008), but still completely relevant. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is actually happy when someone checks my ID. (Don't get me started on how secure my ID actually is.)
heironimus··on Making a Physical Product
Because people who get stuff done typically use whatever they know and make it work "good enough" while people who don't get things done (like me too often) spend their time thinking about the proper language, statistics, probability, and the like.
heironimus··on Letter from MIT President on Releasing Aaron Swartz Documents
PR. By having Abelson involved, it hopefully throws a bone to all the angry hackers.
heironimus··on What it’s like to die
Not being in the medical industry, I'm curious what people say about the 4th paragraph here, indicating that many/most physicians would prefer not to have CPR performed on them. http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/feb/08/how-doctors-ch...
heironimus··on The Glass Bicycle
And I'm sure it will be impossible to paint over it. ;-)
heironimus··on What Thomas Edison expected job candidates to know
I think this list would certainly fail a lot of good, smart candidates, but it probably didn't pass many idiots. It's not likely that someone would know all of these facts and not be well-educated and intelligent. If he was truly getting hundreds of applicants and he didn't mind skipping some geniuses who didn't know facts, this seems like a good way to weed people out. Plus, it's pretty easy to grade.
heironimus··on ActiveRecord Vulnerability - Circumvention of attr_protected
"This one seems pretty amateur and should have been caught as part of a pull request/code review process"

I say that about 95% of the bugs I ever see...especially ones written by me.

heironimus··on How Advertisers Convinced Americans They Smelled Bad
No references, but in my family's experiences, it never works for some and it works great for others, but only as long as you use it. The day you forget, the stink comes right back.
heironimus··on Why Men Can't Have It All
Is the type of magazine more important than the article content? The subject of male bias in programming, work balance, brogrammers, etc. comes up here all the time. This article fits right in.
