hdaz0017··on 41 Years in UX: A Career Retrospective
Congratulations Jakob on your Liberation Day :)

Are you saying the UI is your fault ;-)

Serious question though: how come over the last 15 to 20 years UI's have got considerably worse?

hdaz0017··on Electric vehicle battery prices are falling faster than expected
"If it catches fire, the whole parking lot is done"

haha well Luton Airport fire was not caused by an EV !! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-67077...

The risks are going in the opposite direction with lifepo4 batteries this reduces by a large margin (( far better than petrol and diesel )), then the next step is semi-solid state batteries and then solid state.

Just no contest...

"can't be fixed" well insureance companies will need to be forced to make sure they are fixed !!! it's poor regulations that are causing this not the tech!! standard and modular replaceable batteries problem solved and this also reduces prices.

hdaz0017··on Price paid for offshore power to rise by 50%
"Well at least the govt is actually doing something."

Yeah they are doing something, they are causing the issues !!! so they can say we are doing something!

They are wasting time, money and energy! with minimal action(s).

in two to four years there is going to be a "massive" energy shock to uk energy supply by total lack of planning and action(s) by this very government!

The goal(s) are to outsource everything and say it was not out problem(s) and play a blame game!

hdaz0017··on Chess Written in GNU Sed
black removed its own queen when I placed its king into checked :P then it moved its king from check to the space to the left staying in check :) :P

impressive but the graphics need to be much bigger.

Would be good to have some indication that is is my move and show the move that the chess.sed made, would also be good to place all moves into chess.log :P

HashiCorp Vault - is big in Secrets management but its not the Terraform of Secrets management it's just too easy to make another product.

AWS Secrets Manager

AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store

AWS KMS

Google Cloud KMS - Cloud Key Management System

Azure Key Vault

confidant - https://lyft.github.io/confidant

keywhiz - https://github.com/square/keywhiz

knox - https://github.com/pinterest/knox

strongboxsafe - https://strongboxsafe.com

conjur - https://www.conjur.org

+ many more

Ansible Vault - probably not competing directly

I am pretty sure companies like netflix, facebook, uber, tesla and others are probably using their own in house creations.

Nagios used to be only Open Source then they created the Enterprise version and left the open source core version lagging behind, it was forked a billion times or more :) creating the Nagios Effect. A lot of monitoring software / companies then removed / replaced the core of Nagios from their products.

Why does NASA still use twitter surely this is devaluing their brand?
hdaz0017··on The OpenTF Manifesto
Hopefully it's not down to CTOs to be picking tools for their company but a process within DevOps/Engineering teams etc.

Does anyone else see this as the Nagios Effect all over again, there must be lots to learn from history?

hdaz0017··on The OpenTF Manifesto
There is a big difference though Terraform is the out and out winner in its market.

All their other products are at best small x% share of a crowded market or dominated by another product.

hdaz0017··on The OpenTF Manifesto
chef said, did and tried some really dumb stuff and lots of it failed for obvious reasons, it's like docker took a chunk of their playbook and their business went the same way.

It's all good and "fun" on the IPO up.

(in x months we will rewrite the whole universe).

hdaz0017··on Removing official support for Red Hat enterprise Linux
Been using Red Hat (or clones) for 20+ years, the writing was on the wall and still is.

Enterprise Linux needs to move on from these cowbots.

Now the list of nonsense is too long!

at this rate RHEL 9.x won't reach 2025...

hdaz0017··on What is the minimal possible UK address?
I did this in 1996, got a friend to send a letter.

Mr XYZ

IBM

I think it took a couple of weeks to get to me - what do I win - .

I guess some people might not know where UK (United Kingdon) is. :)

hdaz0017··on Humans Could Go the Way of the Dinosaur
The climate change debate isn't just about the impact to humanity!

1950 human population 2.5 billion, 1977 human population 4 billion, 2023 human population 8+ billion

so in 20 / 30 years 16 billion?
