happyscrappy··on Volkswagen's U.S. head: individuals engineered emissions cheating
This is even more unreal given their ad campaign "Truth in Engineering".
happyscrappy··on Volkswagen's U.S. head: individuals engineered emissions cheating
This ridiculous story is not going to hold and they know it so watch for higher ups trying to divest. I mean Bosch told them it would be illegal to use the way they were intending. I surely hope someone is watching who at the company is selling shares.
happyscrappy··on 'Extreme poverty' to fall below 10% of world population for first time
This is the left's main problem, they need more and more people on government assistance or they lose power.
happyscrappy··on 'Extreme poverty' to fall below 10% of world population for first time
Dishonest for a good cause, wonderful, they have now lost the high ground.
happyscrappy··on Smaller U.S. businesses fear freeze from EU privacy ruling
As long as European intelligence agencies continue to cooperate with the NSA expect all change to be decorative.
happyscrappy··on Smaller U.S. businesses fear freeze from EU privacy ruling
It is weird to have the article call Adobe and Autodesk mid-size companies. In Europe they would be considered giants.
happyscrappy··on UN delay could open door to robot wars
Why are they more likely to shoot you? They will do what we program them to do and we could send them into situations too dangerous for a human team. It wouldn't need to have a gun.
happyscrappy··on Despite many usurpers, cash is still king
It is also hard to verify cash sales at tax time.
happyscrappy··on No Safe Harbor: How NSA Spying Undermined U.S. Tech and Europeans' Privacy
The Fourteen Eyes consist of the Five Eyes plus Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain and Sweden. According to a document leaked by Edward Snowden, the Fourteen Eyes are officially known as SIGINT Seniors Europe, or "SSEUR".
happyscrappy··on No Safe Harbor: How NSA Spying Undermined U.S. Tech and Europeans' Privacy
Germany is littered with US military bases so I don't see how you think they are not cooperating much.
happyscrappy··on No Safe Harbor: How NSA Spying Undermined U.S. Tech and Europeans' Privacy
All intelligence agencies of the West are working together, but you can't hate the entire West, that would be stupid.
happyscrappy··on No Safe Harbor: How NSA Spying Undermined U.S. Tech and Europeans' Privacy
Removing every country whose intelligence service is cooperating with the US would leave no EU at all, although that may come about anyway.
happyscrappy··on The New 911 Only Has Apple Car Play Because Google Is Nicht Gut (Not Good)
Holy hell.

>So much for "Do No Evil." There's no technological reason the 991/2 doesn't have Android Auto playing through its massively upgraded PCM system. But there is an ethical one. As part of the agreement an automaker would have to enter with Google, certain pieces of data must be collected and mailed back to Mountain View, California. Stuff like vehicle speed, throttle position, coolant and oil temp, engine revs—basically Google wants a complete OBD2 dump whenever someone activates Android Auto. Not kosher, says Porsche. Obviously, this is "off the record," but Porsche feels info like that is the secret sauce that makes its cars special. Moreover, giving such data to a multi-billion dollar corporation that's actively building a car, well, that ain't good, either. Apple, by way of stark contrast, only wants to know if the car is moving while Apple Play is in use. Makes you wonder about all the other OEMs who have agreed to Google's requests/demands, no?

happyscrappy··on Europe's highest court has rejected the 'safe harbor' agreement
It already happened and Google dumped China.
happyscrappy··on Android 6.0 Marshmallow Reviewed
Join the Dark side. We have Windows mode.
happyscrappy··on VW Scandal Will Speed Up Diesel's Demise
If diesel drivers had to smell what it is like to drive behind one they wouldn't be able to sell any.
happyscrappy··on Edward Snowden interview: 'Smartphones can be taken over'
I am surprised people don't know that there are two types of security, Mossad and non-Mossad. You can't win against Mossad.
happyscrappy··on The primacy of the US dollar looks unsustainable
Finance is hard. But not that hard.
happyscrappy··on The primacy of the US dollar looks unsustainable
No risk calculus has been shaken, there is no fiscal angle to the haggard abortion grandstanding. Has America ever not repaid?
happyscrappy··on Lessons learned with 3D Touch
Apple is fairly strict on developers when integrating new features and the gesture is simple with instant feedback.
happyscrappy··on Hurricane Joaquin Forecast: Why U.S. Weather Model Has Fallen Behind
I am not sure that this evacuate Earth angle is going to work as a funding motive, even if there was a catastrophic asteroid it is far more realistic to build domes here than on Mars.
happyscrappy··on Lessons learned with 3D Touch
Thank you. The cocoa one where you utilize raw force values from a user's touches on a progress bar is great.
happyscrappy··on Hurricane Joaquin Forecast: Why U.S. Weather Model Has Fallen Behind
Please don't conflate climate and weather.
happyscrappy··on The primacy of the US dollar looks unsustainable
Devaluing the Yuan has set any hopes of it being a reserve currency back by a decade at least. It was a move of weakness and has accelerated capital outflow from China as well as causing some head scratching about the competence of party leaders, because it seems unduly drastic, unless things are worse than they seem.
happyscrappy··on The model minority is losing patience
But the success of Asians/Indians kind of disproves the narrative that it is all about class. They come with nothing, live in the same poor neighborhoods and are so successful that they are discriminated against to promote diversity on campus.
happyscrappy··on The primacy of the US dollar looks unsustainable
Devaluing the Yuan will not help it become a reserve currency, unless people suddenly like to lose money.
happyscrappy··on Mass incarceration: A new theory for why so many Americans are in prison
Chicago?
happyscrappy··on Mass incarceration: A new theory for why so many Americans are in prison
And what? It is bad that they don't usually commit crimes? Or just because they are white? First time offender plea bargains are the best chance to reduce prison population.
happyscrappy··on Mass incarceration: A new theory for why so many Americans are in prison
NY was Gotham City. Why is there so much animosity for the 'Broken Windows' policy when it clearly worked?

Ok, thanks. It is better to edit in place once someone has replied.
