happypeter··on Show HN: My first web app - Resumonk - A beautifully simple resume builder
As to web dev, different people tend to use very different tools to build something looked exactly the same for end-users.

Very Often, it depends heavily on what language you use, java, php, ruby, python...? I love Ruby on Rails.

happypeter··on Ask HN: Should I get a blog?
A better writer, a better thinker.
happypeter··on How Y Combinator Started
Yeah, the story is absolutely inspring. I will copy this in China! Money does not go against freedom, money is part of our freedom.
happypeter··on Beginners Guide to HTML/CSS
I am the you four years ago I think, so I am luckier :)
happypeter··on Tell HN: Frustrated and feeling pretty useless at this point.
Yes, every time you post something here, there would always be many people who care and know show up. HN is a great community.
happypeter··on Hackruiter (YC S10) Launches Hacker School
I am doing free education in China, and I fund myself. Right action has its own reward.
happypeter··on Git Vs SVN
git is obviously the right choice, and for me, svn is just for those who are not smart enough to use git.
happypeter··on Will Dropouts Save America?
I actually gave up my MS degree, and saved quit a bit time to learn sth useful.

3 years after that, I want to say, it was a nice decision. I do not need a degree anyway.

happypeter··on Walking man animation using only CSS3
Looks nice in my firefox, cool
happypeter··on Steve Jobs Worked on Apple Until His Last Day
If I know steve, he is a buddist. If one know buddism, he should not work for the world. If steve really worked till his last moment, he tried his best to enjoy his own life, and his life is a nature harmony, a beautiful flower.

Being a flower is much more important than being great, and most of the time works better than being charitable.

happypeter··on Rob Pike: Dennis Ritchie has died
Great ideas in great work, great people never die.
happypeter··on Why Education Companies Do Not Succeed
Voice from a educator from China! You are right, but we are trying hard to change this. First thing I want my students to do is to forget about their scores.

Actually, I really want to go one step further, and suggest giving up their degrees in order to be really educated!

happypeter··on Daring Fireball: Universe Dented, Grass Underfoot
It is just too obvious that saving lives are more important than making a product prettier. However, I think the best way to less evil for this world is not always that sending your money to Africa, but rather that everybody should work hard for truth_good_beauty.

Apple makes beautiful product and provide nice educational resources to this world, Steve worked hard for this with all his life. So he is far more than "a god to consumers" to me.

happypeter··on Daring Fireball: Universe Dented, Grass Underfoot
Turn sorrow into poetry. I love this.
happypeter··on Steve Jobs has passed away.
This means a lot to me

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work, and the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking, and don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it, and like any great relationship it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking. Don't settle."

happypeter··on Ryan Bates launches RailsCasts Pro
RailsCasts is awesome, I owe so much more then $9 per month to it.

But here in China, many young students will still think it is too much...bad bad bad, anybody can do a less pro one, and make it free?

happypeter··on Improving Education with free Web 2.0 tools
And also we have all kinds of collaboration tools(Basecamp, github, all kinds of forums...) to make working together a more efficient process, I think similar things can be done in education. The experience I learned as a opensource programer shows me awesome possibilities, I actually learnt Ruby on Rails, in order to build new game rules to organize the students together and get them fully interested and motivated to learn. I have not done much, but I will work on.
happypeter··on Improving Education with free Web 2.0 tools
Yes, the web has really changed how education can be done. We have google, we have wikipedia... accessing knowledge has never been easier. I work since last year as a trainer, my passion is letting young college students be educated in a whole new way.(I am from China, I love my college time, but hate all the courses I was given) So I write blogs to let them understand the importance of freedom in their life and learning, I do screencasts to teach them some practical programming skills so that they won't go hungry fighting for their dreams.

I am very exiting doing all these. I do not need to repeat same thing again and agin. Teaching is now done cheaply and efficiently as never happened before.

happypeter··on The education system is falling behind the students
I will always applaud for those who say education system sucks.

I think school education keep us away from the real, real enjoyment of beauty, real work that creates real value for the people we love.

happypeter··on Why I've built an alternative to Github
Thanks for building a low cost alternative.

Here is my advice. What github looks charming to me is the wonderful service for free plan users. I think this is wise, build a huge audience, and then "out-teach" them to be their potential customer. Success comes after the fame.

happypeter··on Fish don't know they're in water
refreshing article, I love it.

I am from mainland China, a country boy actually.

but I love a bit of uncertainty out of my life. anyway, we are mortal, no one going to secure you out of death. So what can you lose?

happypeter··on Git is as revolutionary as Unix pipes (2008)
I love git, and use it to backup my life. Very interesting to know that you will still be able to checkout what you do today many years later. CVS can do this as well, it is just not so attractive being much slower.
happypeter··on Ask HN: What habits made you a better programmer?
