That sounds like the reasoning of the gun-lobby. When bad things happen to do with guns, they tell us we need more guns.

All of these people were in this thing for purely speculative reasons, so please forgive me my lack of empathy :)

Yeah, the technology fascinates me as well, it's very cool.

It's said that the real-world economics of it make no sense at all. The technology will survive though, the ideas will make their way into other pieces of software.

After this, you still say "Bitcoin may be the next gold standard"?
hanswesterbeek··on Mt. Gox Files for Bankruptcy Protection
Hilarious. Can't wait to hear from the choir of libertarian crypto-currency-zealots, who will sing the praises of the Ponzi scheme that is Bitcoin.

On a serious note: who benefits?

hanswesterbeek··on That which does not kill Bitcoin makes Bitcoin stronger
I don't think it's ad-hominem, but alas.

I don't feel the need to provide the list of arguments that I'm sure critics of Bitcoin have provided on this forum lots of times and I am confident you are already familiar with. Don't mean to waste your time.

I /did/ want to respond to this article because the original author symptoms of blind faith in Bitcoin, where even when something disastrous happens to it, is portrayed as beneficial. I'm sure you'll agree that this is a bit of a stretch.

hanswesterbeek··on In San Jose, generous pensions for city workers come at expense of all else
The problem would be a whole lot smaller if those successful companies there in the Valley didn't all evade taxes by offshoring their assets in places where there's little or no tax.

It seems the author thinks Bitcoin is like your average software-project, where you fix a bug and just move on.

The naive view of a libertarian dreamer.

hanswesterbeek··on Lack of QA was the problem, not the sloppy coding
Hmm, interesting to see such different approaches.

I just don't see how one can guard against regression bugs without having automated tests, especially when software gets complex. And these days, all software is complex :)

hanswesterbeek··on Never judge a programmer by their commit history
Nailed it.

Agree with the blog. Context is (almost) everything.
hanswesterbeek··on Show HN: My 1-year project, iPad IDE with GitHub and Heroku integration
Poor you, it is obvious that one needs a real keyboard to code, any touchscreen just won't let you type quick enough.

The iPad is no good for any kind of authoring. I own one, love it but can hardly make myself even type a 3 sentence email on it, let alone code.

I'm afraid you've waisted a year.

hanswesterbeek··on How do I get started with Node.js
Just skip Node and go for vert.x, right away.
hanswesterbeek··on I’m tired of the opportunists and their hackathons
Agree with Ryan. And besides, what good can possibly come from say 48 hours of caffeine-fueled chasing of shiny dangling objects. That's not how you make software
hanswesterbeek··on Vert.x – JVM Polyglot Alternative to Node.js
it ignores those, for good reason
