hansmayer··on I believe there are entire companies right now under AI psychosis
Could be, would be, should be is not the discourse we should have about this tech.

Not after Dario's and Sam's "authoritative" statements on what is definitely going to happen "in the next 6 months, 12 months" etc. I am just holding these guys to their own words. I don't want to invest time and energy to make their effing "PocketPhds" finally work as advertised. And I don't want to compare it to technologies which just worked as advertised. Whether you had fear of trains or not, they effing worked exactly as advertised. No one disputed that they would get you somewhere faster than the horse. Perhaps there was fear of using them "for a few reasons", as you succinctly and hand-wavingly put, but no one disputed that they were faster than the horses. LLMs on the other hand are worth less than those horses excrement, i.e. horseshit. What the fuck is their value proposition? No one knows.

Also LLMs are not disruptive, they are destructive - not to the technology, but to the people's lives.

hansmayer··on OpenClaw Creator Spent $1.3M on OpenAI Tokens in 30 Days
What product or feature did he build with it and how much ARR did it generate for OpenAI?
hansmayer··on I believe there are entire companies right now under AI psychosis
> Initially, people were really afraid of trains, fearing they wouldn’t be able to breathe at those speeds

That was one doctor raising that as an issue, which was dispelled very quickly. It was not a wide-spread belief at any one point. Let's not bullshit ourselves and insult our own intelligence - the chatbots != intelligence.

hansmayer··on I believe there are entire companies right now under AI psychosis
There is a reason why such discussions about CNC machines never happened. I wonder what it cculd be? Becausw their output is better than man-made atuff? Because they are reliable? Because their manufacturers generally don't lie?
hansmayer··on I believe there are entire companies right now under AI psychosis
1. What product(s)? 2. What features? 3. How.much ARR increase per employee?

If you can't answer these questions credibly, I'm afraid I'll have to treat your answer as LLM influencer propaganda.

hansmayer··on I believe there are entire companies right now under AI psychosis
Very funny, this. Did we need forward deployed engineers to convince people that they absolutely need to use the trains in order to "not be left behind"? Or otherwise hype? Or was it sort of obvious and did not need to explained so much - like a bad joke called LLMs ?
hansmayer··on I believe there are entire companies right now under AI psychosis
> won’t concede until you can just ask Codex or Opus “find and fix all the bugs in this

But this is just holding the Slop Companies to the standard they declared themselves! Just recently, the CEO of OpenAI babbled some nonsense on twitter about how he hands over tasks to Codex who according to him, finishes them flawlessly while he is playing with his kid outside.

> but soon we will be.

Ah yes, in the 3-6 months, right? This time next year Rodney, we'll be millionaires!

A lot of words about nothing.

Meanwhile we are still waiting for these statements to come true:

hansmayer··on The AI zombification of universities
> You don't need college to teach you how to learn text book items anymore and I think that is scary to some.

a) This is about universities, not "college" b) The University teaches you critical thinking, not how to learn "textbook items". It's not vocational training for upper middle class. It's for building and developing citizens who can think critically.

hansmayer··on AI is making me dumb
Ha ha ha... actually in the last 20-30 years most people learnt programming in assembly no for the sake of building programs in assembly - it was tought so you can have a grasp of microprocessor architecture. Instructions, interrupts, registers and all that. It means being fully aware of your environment. Without this knowledge of our environment, not only in our jobs, but also generally in life, what are we? Not more than wild animals surviving on instincts and an occasional burst of conciousness. Well, no thanks - I don't want to be an Eloi.
hansmayer··on Cisco workforce reductions
Of course it's ethical - these guys have been persistent in creating a jungle-like environment for all of us. In such a situation, acting primarily for your own egoistic interests is indeed the most ethical choice you could make. I applaud you for doing so.
hansmayer··on Bitcoin trader recovers wallet with help of Claude
On a purely technical level - cool. But I still cannot get over the impression that even in this case LLMs show us how they are mainly useful to grifters. I mean, 5 Bitcoins worth 400K USD. Why? What intrinsic value does Bitcoin deliver? It's like trading for monopoly money.
hansmayer··on Cisco workforce reductions
> Today we announced our Q3 FY26 earnings with record revenue of $15.8 billion, up 12 percent year over year, and double-digit top and bottom-line growth. The ELT and I could not be prouder of the growth you have all delivered for Cisco.

What a sick, deeply disconnected opener. Essentially a big FU to their employees. All these AI-first geniuses will eventually bring about is people intentionally slowing down their "productivity" while maxxing the shit out of the company token budget.

> We have important, impactful, and consequential work ahead. Your focus, resilience, and leadership are vital to our growth and relevance in FY27 and beyond.

The message here is - generate more with less, so we can layoff even more of you. At some point even the dumbest, most loyal corporate shills will start to get it.

hansmayer··on Cisco workforce reductions
Lol, so much "productivity" bullshit from the LLM-crowd but hardly any new innovations or products. Something is off here.
hansmayer··on Cisco workforce reductions
> all evidence points to AI bringing at least 10-20% more productivity.

No, actually all evidence points exactly to a ~20% slowdown> https://metr.org/blog/2025-07-10-early-2025-ai-experienced-o...

The "evidence" that you think about is probably that dopamine hit you felt when the shit-generator spat out a complete half-finished react app. But that's not evidence of increased productivity, unless we now measure productivity by the size of the codebase bloat.

hansmayer··on “I applied to be pope”: Losing grip on reality while using ChatGPT
Who said they were new? But the ability to induce them ON SCALE is what is new, brmought to you by the LLM Slop companies.
hansmayer··on Claude for Small Business
> Anthropic vs OAI fierce competition

What competition? To have competiton, you need to have a market. And to have a market, you need to have a well defined product or service. What these guys are offering is a toy, for which they desperately try and invent new potential use cases every week. Metaverse, NFT and Blockchain once again, "supercharged" by trillions of VC money, soon coming for your pension fund too. What could go wrong?

hansmayer··on The US is winning the AI race where it matters most: commercialization
What does the term "AI race" even mean, beyond wooing clueless VCs and soon retail investors ? It's not like the LLMs are some super-secret technology. Any economy willing to sink in copious amounts of money and resources can get it to some level - the question, what's the actual payoff? We have yet to see anything really useful, on the level of step change, besides Johnny who can now spin up demo projects quicker.
hansmayer··on “I applied to be pope”: Losing grip on reality while using ChatGPT
> I see a lot of media hype

Right, a guy keeping endless stacks of paper with his ChatGPT-produced novelty "scientific" theories and wanting to "apply for pope" - definitely some "media hype" there.

hansmayer··on “I applied to be pope”: Losing grip on reality while using ChatGPT
> but there are plenty of human sycophants as well

That's besides the point. This is about how AI induces psychosis and mental problems on scale. Also let's stop this constant humans-vs-ai false dichotomy - it will never be the same, no matter how much the ai boosters yearn for it!

hansmayer··on “I applied to be pope”: Losing grip on reality while using ChatGPT
We did...but it was few here and there. The LLMs are making it massive and impacting people on a huge scale.
hansmayer··on Reimagining the mouse pointer for the AI era
Well you see to really, really sell it to the common folks, they need to convince you that ChatBots are the "Intelligence" . So they are coming up with all sorts of crap, like this one. The TV advertisements for Gemini and co. are indicative of how they see the average user, as an idiot of sorts, who needs the shit-device for pretty much anything. Oh you spilled some water on the counter top? Quick, ask Gemini what to do! You are a 20ish something individual home alone? Quick, lay on the couch and ask Gemini if you can really talk to it, omg, its so exciting! You were in holidays all alone, but in the middle of a really large crowd? Gemini to the help, cut those people out and make it look like it was an exclusive spot, just for you! Nobody else was there. So this proposal is going into the same direction - probably targeting the average office "idiot".
hansmayer··on Show HN: Needle: We Distilled Gemini Tool Calling into a 26M Model
> and matches an observation I saw with early Claude Code

> though the new models (GPT-5.5 and Opus 4.6) seem to suffer from this less

> My takeaway was that

> haven’t found Gemini to be

For the love of all that's holy, folks please stop investing your time to fill in the gaps that the Slop Corporations are leaving wide open in their "tooling". Why should you strain yourself in an attempt to "make it work" one way or another? Google, MS, Meta, OpenAI etc. are all now subtly pushing to call their tooling "Intelligence" (not even Artificial Intelligence), so why is it not intelligent? Why does it not work? 1T+ investments and still we should think of best magic chants and configurations to make the slop generators produce half-valid output? All while some of the tech leaders are openly threatening to subdue us in their weird visions of "civilisation" ? We have a better use for our superior brains, let's not denigrate ourselves into being helpless helpers to the magic oracle (if at least it was some magic oracle!)

hansmayer··on Googlebook

hansmayer··on Googlebook

hansmayer··on Software engineering may no longer be a lifetime career
> We've literally just started

5+ years in the software world is like 30 years in others...So...given lacking use-cases and humongous amounts of capital already wasted on chatbots...It's more like "we" are closer to closing curtains than to "just started"...

hansmayer··on I'm going back to writing code by hand
> Prisma, GraphQL and Redux, whoops suddenly you need a whole team of devs knowing all kinds of unecessary abstractions.

Ah, let me guess / you're one of those non-technical PMs who can finally shove it to the devs - by spitting out unreadable HTML storing all it's data in a flat file? Oh boy, do I have news for you...

hansmayer··on I'm going back to writing code by hand
...which means you depend on the LLMs? Of course strictly "to save time". It's not like you are slowly forgetting how to start a project in the first palce or implement that db integration, right?
hansmayer··on I'm going back to writing code by hand
I think if you tried working with some junior folks, you'd be quite surprised. You know, with at least some of them choosing to use their brains and all.
hansmayer··on I'm going back to writing code by hand
Mate, that's literally what you implied, innit? You probably "can" do it yourself, but you choose not to - I wonder why? Also the point of sarcasm is to communicate it in such way that it is obvious, without using the "/s" signifier. You know like, telling a joke at a party that you don't have to explain.
