handojin··on Harvard and M.I.T. Sued Over Failing to Caption Online Courses
Nobody is telling them it's illegal to do so. Merely that they must pay for excluding the 'deaf part of humanity'.
handojin··on Harvard and M.I.T. Sued Over Failing to Caption Online Courses
Harvard and MIT receive (accept) grants from the federal government for producing their content. It's reasonable to expect that in making this content available, they will accommodate all taxpayers. IOW, I'm not sure you understand the principle of the situation.
handojin··on The Rewards of Creating a Programming Language
That is really cool. This focus on time is what draws me into the whole clojure/datomic world. We're ill equipped to handle it. Tools help.

Does time itself reveal itself as the horizon of being?

disclaimer: no actual experience of this but...

here's some snippets:

Yes. To all three questions.

Two points:

First, the concept of LSD user is misguided. In soviet Russia LSD uses you. Second, the world is larger.

handojin··on The Fermi Paradox
Nope. Ken MacLeod's 'learning the world'. The alien space bats were a nice touch. Charles Stross' book accelerando has an interesting take on the Fermi paradox too.
handojin··on Show HN: OJ – A Clojure library for talking to your database
+1 - This is by far the sanest approach to rdbms interaction I've seen. It's kind of sad that we're stuck with SQL but while we're stuck with it we should stick to it. :P
handojin··on Osquery: Expose the operating system as a relational database
There are better languages. Tutorial D, the dataphor implementation D4 and datalog (as implemented for datomic e.g.) spring to mind.

handojin··on Interviewing as a Front-End Engineer in San Francisco
Obviously effete. The only real point of distinction is where to open the egg and the answer is never 'middle'.
handojin··on The Criminalization of Everyday Life
For a second I misread you as saying Discipline and Punish 'has embedded technological controls...'

Which, depressingly, might be true. :P

handojin··on School is a prison and damaging our kids
Or make an economic decision to prioritize revenue. We went a different route. No blame. Everyone should read Foucault though.
handojin··on Google’s “20% time,” which brought you Gmail and AdSense, is now as good as dead
Matthew Stewart's "the management myth" runs with this thesis. Google it - the Atlantic article is a great read. He explicitly links the Tom Peters types with televangelists and self help infomercial pitchmen.
