hamoid··on Piracy and the Four Currencies
How would you know if a program you downloaded had been modified to send files from your hard drive to a server? I think it can be easily done without an antivirus noticing.
hamoid··on Hacking Hacker News
Great work. I've been wishing posts had tags so I could subscribe to some topics and avoid others.

Apart from the technical side, I find the light blue text hard to read.

hamoid··on Show HN: Move photos b/w Flickr, Facebook and G+ by drag n drop
Not sure if it's a good idea, but maybe someone would enjoy the option of copying the comments as flat text added to the caption. Like "Caption first... Flickr comments: 1. bla 2. bla"

There is an issue with some characters in Flickr: http://i43.tinypic.com/3445gf5.png My Flickr user name is the same as here, in case you want to check where that error comes from.

Is the description copied from Flickr to G+? Any other data like comments, location?

hamoid··on Year of the storm
TPB is also blocked in Finland, including mirrors and IP addresses. But this mirror does work.
hamoid··on Suicide
Recently it's been suggested that more women should create startups, that actually everybody should.

This post suggests to me that maybe it's not such a great idea after all.

hamoid··on Feds Mistakenly Shut Down Popular Blog For Over A Year
If terrorists hate you for your freedom, maybe that's the reason why your government is getting rid of them.

Getting rid of the freedoms, I mean. Then the terrorist will not have a reason to hate you anymore.

Sorry for the sarcasm.

hamoid··on Google Nexus Android phones do not include Carrier IQ tracking software
Looking at the latest Wikileaks release (http://wikileaks.org/the-spyfiles.html) it makes me think that this Carrier IQ thing, if it is used for getting to our personal data, is just a pixel in the complete picture.
hamoid··on Ivo – a reimagined Unix terminal system
This is text editing in OpenGL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2O5DJTOy6EA I'd like to have such a terminal.
hamoid··on Secret app on millions of phones logs key taps
I used to think I better avoid installing a custom ROM in my phone because it might contain software exactly like this one. This really upsets me. Time to check CyanogenMod out.
hamoid··on Ubuntu’s move to Unity is the best thing that ever happened to Linux
I think the only thing wrong with Unity is that it came without instructions.

My dad, a non computer expert, updated to a recent Ubuntu and wondered where did all the menus go to. He called me saying that he needed help.

Even I'm a power user, it also took me time to adapt. The first days I was trying to do things the old way. For example trying to find the applications by clicking instead of typing. After I realized, I think I'm now faster than before. I was already used to Quicksilver and Launchy, so pressing the start key, typing a few letters and pressing enter feels fast and easy.

I was also annoyed by windows maximizing when I dragged them to the top. No one told me what was that about. Today I realized that I can easily drag windows to the left or right borders for having two windows side by side, which I find very useful.

So I think what's missing is a welcome video tutorial that explains the changes and tells us how to be productive with Unity.

I wonder about one thing though: aren't geeks doing most things with the keyboard? I don't think you notice Unity much if you stay away from the mouse.

hamoid··on Ubuntu’s move to Unity is the best thing that ever happened to Linux
With Unity you can press Win+1, Win+2 ... Win+N to directly jump to an specific open window. Much faster than alt+tab.
hamoid··on Time to fork the FSF
I've encountered several printers and scanners that did not work on OSX but did have working Linux drivers. I've used graphic tablets, external sound cards, printers and scanners that just worked as I plugged them in under Ubuntu. Not so in Mac.
hamoid··on Games company claims their graphics are 100,000x better
I think a good game and a game with good graphics are two unrelated things.

What would my mom say? This game looks a bit better than this other game? Or this game looks 100,000x better than this other one :)

hamoid··on The alternative Internet, WiFi based
I don't see in that wiki references to similar projects, for example http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freifunk which is used in areas of Germany. I heard the traffic in such networks can slow them down until barely usable.
