hahn-kev··on Total monthly number of StackOverflow questions over time
This response sounds quite toxic actually
hahn-kev··on I migrated to an almost all-EU stack and saved 500€ per year
Wow, no search is a deal breaker. Might as well just delete my email, that's pretty secure.
hahn-kev··on Tell HN: Google ignores English searches and forces localized results
Yeah I get this a lot, it's really annoying. You can go into settings on Google search and change it to the specific language and culture you want. However it does reset on it's own from time to time.
hahn-kev··on Comptime – C# meta-programming with compile-time code generation and evaluation
You don't. The way it works is that it intercepts the call site when the input args are constant. If they're not then it won't be replaced and it will call the original method. C# source generators can't replace method definitions, however a call site can be changed to another method via source generators.
hahn-kev··on X-ray: a Python library for finding bad redactions in PDF documents
Maybe we should all just use mono-space fonts for everything
hahn-kev··on Donating the Model Context Protocol and establishing the Agentic AI Foundation
But like, it's just openAPI with an endpoint for getting the schema, like how is that more universal than openAPI?
hahn-kev··on Bruno Simon – 3D Portfolio
I think it's not a website you make to get hired to make business websites like this to display information (unless maybe it's a gaming company), but if you want someone to make a game on the web then this is a perfect portfolio site.
hahn-kev··on Microsoft has a problem: lack of demand for its AI products
Not sure what lambda helpers are. But you can write Google AppScript which is just JS and do some pretty cool stuff, including define custom functions and fully integrate with Google APIs. I've used to to send emails, or create calendar events for example.
hahn-kev··on Reverse engineering a $1B Legal AI tool exposed 100k+ confidential files
I've had the same. Ask them to come up with a ToS and they're like "we'll talk about that in an upcoming meeting" it's been a few years now with nothing.
hahn-kev··on Kohler Can Access Pictures from "End-to-End Encrypted" Toilet Camera
Doesn't that just mean HTTPS then?
hahn-kev··on What will enter the public domain in 2026?
I didn't realize we were forcing people to watch movies now, that is quite concerning.
hahn-kev··on Migrating Dillo from GitHub
Slower and slower is more natural to my ear. More and more slow sounds weird.
hahn-kev··on Abuse of the nullish coalescing operator in JS/TS
Totally agree, I think this is a good place for debug asserts which only throw during development, but fallback in prod builds.
hahn-kev··on Sunsetting Supermaven
Supermaven was awesome RIP
hahn-kev··on Lawmakers want to ban VPNs
Never heard of this, thanks
hahn-kev··on The last-ever penny will be minted today in Philadelphia
Don't forget the county and sometimes city tax. That's why it's not possible to list the real price.
hahn-kev··on The lazy Git UI you didn't know you need
Do you use the Mac or Windows version?
hahn-kev··on You can't cURL a Border
My guess is that it's because of emergencies. If you get injured and can't or shouldn't fly home then you need more time on your passport. It is also much easier to send you home if you over stay your visa if your passport is still valid. Also the system is setup to give you a visa of a specific length (eg 30 days), they can't just give you a 2 day visa.

Also if your passport lasts for 10 years you've known when it's going to expire for quite a while, they're just expecting you to be responsible.

hahn-kev··on NORAD’s Cheyenne Mountain Combat Center, c.1966
I hope the P in John's name stands for Puddle
hahn-kev··on Internet's biggest annoyance: Cookie laws should target browsers, not websites
Yeah I agree, that sentiment works if you only consume content online. But for real stuff? Good luck
hahn-kev··on Fallout from the AWS outage: Smart mattresses go rogue
Same with games
hahn-kev··on Bots are getting good at mimicking engagement
Maybe it's bots trying to look like real people? So not targeting you specifically, but just trying to fake being real users?
hahn-kev··on CRDT and SQLite: Local-First Value Synchronization
My problem with this kind of design is that you can't really use any relational constraints. Or constraints between columns in a given table because each column is independently merged
hahn-kev··on Android's sideloading limits are its most anti-consumer move
Probably the only real benefit now is Firefox/alt browsers
hahn-kev··on The evolution of Lua, continued [pdf]
That's silly. The y2k bug was because the year was written as 65, instead of the full year being 1965, so information was lost. Writing 2025 has no missing information.
hahn-kev··on What .NET 10 GC changes mean for developers
I would say it really depends on your target. If you want only mobile, then there's different option's (see other comments). But if you want only desktop then Avilonia is good. However if you want both (like my team) then we did end up going for MAUI. However we use MAUI Blazor as we also want to run on a server. We're finding iOS to be difficult to target but I don't think that has anything to do with MAUI.
hahn-kev··on I spent the day teaching seniors how to use an iPhone
Sounds like a very expensive dump phone
hahn-kev··on Signal Protocol and Post-Quantum Ratchets
Except Captcha is to make it harder for spammers, if they just have to do Captcha once and then invite more accounts it kinda defeats the purpose.
hahn-kev··on Cursor 1.7
I agree, they bought out Supermaven which was amazing, but now Supermaven is dead and I want something in Rider.
hahn-kev··on Safe zero-copy operations in C#
I'm a C# dev main and love spans.

I understand it's not in the same realm as Rust, but how comparable is this to some of the power that Rust gives you?
