hackernud3s··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
Citizens United is widely considered the event that would cause US corruption to spiral out of control, but there was always the hope that a constitutional amendment could get us out of this.

Neither side ever even attempted it. Every once in a while you get some lip service about small money donations but nobody ever tried to go after the problem at the root in all this time. Think about what that means.

hackernud3s··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
What's a scapegoat then?
hackernud3s··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
I think you need to check the math on that. Knew a former slave maybe?
hackernud3s··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
It makes a difference at a demographics level but I don't think that's what we're discussing here.
hackernud3s··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
Comparing MAGA to Nazis is a bit much, and I would argue that this kind of hyperbole is a better example of how we got here.
hackernud3s··on Ex-Crips leader found guilty in 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur
Is it just me or does it seem like they should have caught this guy sooner?
hackernud3s··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
Right that's why I qualified that with "things they didn't used to fall for".
hackernud3s··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
Right but an age-related illness that affects cognition is generally just called dementia.
hackernud3s··on Google Has Removed MV2 Extensions from the Chrome Web Store, Including UBO
> My parents are at an age where they fall for things.

If they're falling for things that they didn't used to fall for, that's sounds more like dementia than age.

hackernud3s··on Why do I lose my passion and want to do nothing?
Why not Kasparov when he lost to Deep Blue though?
hackernud3s··on Yen weakens past ¥160 per dollar, eroding intervention gains
I haven't checked USDEUR in years and it's exactly where it was last time.
hackernud3s··on Our decision on Cursor following its acquisition by SpaceX
Does Grok have a subscription that competes with Claude Max $100 plan (genuinely curious)
hackernud3s··on Zohran and the Short Link
Sigh. I was pointing out the difference between when Mamdani does something and when a regular person does the same thing.
hackernud3s··on Humanity has the debate about AI consciousness backwards
Either that or consciousness pops out afterwards as a by-product of the physical process. A less fun to believe idea I know, but the data supports it.
hackernud3s··on Humanity has the debate about AI consciousness backwards
Even if overinterpreted were true, it's silly to claim that consciousness is driving. You don't "decide" to think thoughts. They come to you. They are driving.
hackernud3s··on Humanity has the debate about AI consciousness backwards
You have this backwards. Thoughts and decisions precede consciousness, the sense of authorship is mostly constructed after the fact. See studies on readiness potentials in motor cortex.
hackernud3s··on Zohran and the Short Link
There is nothing to praise here because this is the obvious pattern. Doing anything else would have been incompetence. So yes he gets credit for hiring a competent dev, but to call him a genius for this is venturing into fanboyism / derangement.
hackernud3s··on Zohran and the Short Link
I'm not claiming to be a genius. Nothing in this article is evidence of genius. Competence maybe.
hackernud3s··on Zohran and the Short Link
I did the non-technical aspects too and yet I'm somehow still just a shmuck doing his job while these guys are geniuses.
hackernud3s··on Zohran and the Short Link
3 different clients.
hackernud3s··on Zohran and the Short Link
It's an url shortener. I implemented 3 of these this year and nobody is calling me a genius.
hackernud3s··on Disrupting a new covert influence campaign from Russia
Does it seem strange that Russia would go with Israel to astroturf credibility?
hackernud3s··on Tracking Costco gas prices
Another gas price tracker with a heatmap: https://www.fiery.tools/gas-prices
hackernud3s··on Dolly Parton has died
I feel like conservatives must have a problem with Fred. MAGA would have definitely cancelled his funding.
hackernud3s··on Dolly Parton has died
I might give it to them still if they were fully leveraged.
hackernud3s··on Detecting scraper bots through scroll behaviour
The problem is when your competitors get the idea to spam your campaign with fake traffic, which is a real thing that happens.
hackernud3s··on Detecting scraper bots through scroll behaviour
Yeah, as soon as site operators implement that paid traffic scheme the Cloudflare has been pushing. It's all about being to monetize their compute/content.
hackernud3s··on Gardner police discontinue Flock cameras as license plate readers face scrutiny
Yes and in each case of people being correctly imprisoned, Flock was right. That's because it's a tautology.

hackernud3s··on Where Human Sleep Went Wrong
Did their genes survive more, you mean. Hyper-vigilance could be maladaptive for the individual and still survive if it benefits others that carry the gene for it.
