haarts··on Elastic Search - Incorporated
I'm happy to see this! I wish them well. Also, I'm looking forward to their training course: http://www.elasticsearch.com/services/training/
haarts··on Focus.py
Just a heads up for Mac users: changing the /etc/resolv.conf didn't work for me. Changing it in System Preferences -> Network did work.
haarts··on Ask HN: Best datastore to store high volume time series data
That sounds very interesting. I could only find RRDTool which seems like a combination of a RRD and a graphing tool. Further some vague references about RRD in PostgreSQL. Am I missing something?
haarts··on Ask HN: Best datastore to store high volume time series data
The plan is to provide an overview of the trend in the data (plot it) per sensor (there are hundreds of them). Perhaps select a minimum and maximum over a certain time interval.
haarts··on Vitess: Scaling MySQL databases for the web
It is rather unclear to me whether or not Vtocc automagically takes care of sharding and replication.
haarts··on IOS products are a local optimum
Zacks rant was mainly targeted at the horror of software development. In that respect iOS with Xcode and Objective-C are a step back.
haarts··on Be Visible
Visibility is key. Not only that but being visible implies good communication skills, something which isn't exactly abundant in programmers.
haarts··on Who is living off their startup fulltime?
I am, sort of. But it was a huge step back money-wise.
haarts··on Ask HN: Solo Entrepreneur, what are my chances and have you done it?
It can be done, your odds at succeeding are just (far) lower. A 2 person startup has 120h a week. You only 60h. Besides you can't possibly unify the required skills in one person.

In summary; I wouldn't do it. I speak from experience, I'm running a one person startup now.
