h43z··on Using Gmail with Mutt
Mutt makes writing/reading/searching/managing email just really fast. Mutt also allows to pass the message body to an external program. This helps for formatting HTML mails. This is a snippet from my .mailcap file which renders HTML mail through lynx.

  text/html; lynx -dump -force_html %s; needsterminal; copiousoutput
h43z··on BitcoinEmissions – A project to calculate CO2 emissions of mining bitcoin
I would love to see bitcoin having zero waste and impact on our environment but even now in it's current state it is much cheaper and environmentally friendly [1] than other methods like Gold Mining, Gold Recycling, Banking System Electricity Use, Paper Currency & Minting.

h43z··on Show HN: Get your local and public IP addresses in JavaScript
You don't even need xss for this. You can simply bruteforce the password and try to get some fingerprint of the router and enable remote management. I did this some years back. Back then I also needed to find out the routers IP. Did this via iframes and the js onload event.
h43z··on Behind League of Legends, E-Sports’s Main Attraction
What I like about LoL is that it combines the right amout of knowledge, skill, tactics and teamwork to be successful. You can get into the game quite quickly and have fun on a lower level but also play it intensivly without reaching any kind of horizon because the game constantly changes. And riot also provides you with an api https://developer.riotgames.com/
h43z··on Ask HN: Is it just me or why does Docker suck so much?
Some problems I currently have with docker.

1. Dockerfiles are to static

You cannot start the docker build process with an variable (eg. a var that holds a specific branch to checkout) in your dockerfiles.

2. Managing the build process, starting and linking of multiple images/containers

I started with bash scripts then switched a tool called fig. Even though fig keeps things in a simple config file for whole setups I cannot use it because it does not wait for the DB container until it's ready to accept connections before starting a container that links to it. So I'm back writing bash scripts.

3. Replacing running containers

Restarted containers get a new IP, so all the linking does not work anymore. I had to setup a DNS server and wrap the restarting of containers in bash scripts again.

I had no big issues creating a private registry after the ssl certificate was created correctly.

h43z··on Ask HN: My 19 year old friend has cancer. How can I help him?
I don't know how to hack his chances of survival but i would start to make the time he has left really nice and good. If he has programming skills why not start a project/hackathon maybe some ctf's or a game so you can just hang out and brainstorm on an idea. How about a little lan party with his best friends. Or start some tv show e.g Lost. Good luck.
h43z··on Is the Universe a Simulation?
In my naivety i think it will be impossible to proof that we live in a simulation. Even if we could simulate an universe we cannot say we live in one. And if we find bugs in our current universe we cannot say if it is a bug or our model is just wrong.
h43z··on Fix Ubuntu
How do you like it so far? Any issues, bugs?
h43z··on CodeCube: Docker-powered Runnable Gists
I'm currently building a platform for students to learn programming where you can join a "classroom" and watch the other students (or teachers) editors. My first idea was also to post the code to the server and then compile, run it and send the output back. The problem with this method is that there can't be any interactivity in your code, like it is with CodeCube. I think of such things like in C scanf(). So for now every user that joins gets a ubuntu linux box which is provided by docker. So I'm using term.js and pty.js which spawns this minimalistic box and connects /bin/bash via websocket to the client. The code the client writes in his editor can now have scanfs and other interactive functions and is compiled and executed in his own little shell.
h43z··on Wi-Fi SSID Sniffer in 10 Lines of Python
Is there a problem/drawback with "iw phy phy0 interface add mon0 type monitor" besides using the airmon tool to create a monitor interface? It works nicely with the iw command.
h43z··on XSS + "Save your password" = pwned
I tried to get the saved values of the input type=text tags without xss. It's a pretty messy method and doesn't work very well. http://j.mp/YbLvuK Any ideas?
