guillem_lefait··on Hacking Analytics’ Compendium of Data News – December 2020
Thanks for your post, I enjoyed it and found interesting links.

On the SQL side, I'll add real-time query updates with http://www.materialize.com

guillem_lefait··on Ask HN: Predictions for 2021?
1. Money will be printed massively to support artificially covid-impacted economies/businesses. Stocks (from non covid impacted companies) and Crypto will continue to raise.

2. Remote work will continue to gain traction. Remember that in 2020 remote work was terrible for new remote workers, as they were unprepared and face hard conditions (stress, children with closed schools), but shows that remote working can work indeed. New tools for team building will pop-up and social life will be partially transferred to local and non professionnal events.

3. Real estate will slightly evolves as houses/appartment should not only be chosen to live in but could also be used to work : square meters/feet per person will increase, measurements of the quality access to water, electricity, Internet will become a standart. Commercial estate will fall hard. Locations with high life ROI will see new comers and increasing prices. City councils will be on huge pressure.

4. Take-away only restaurants and shops will increase.

5. Universal delivery box will happen to allow asynchronous distribution of goods (by night when traffic is low, by drone ?)

6. The EU e-privacy law altogether with more legal and financial penalties will make US companies to lose momentum in Europe

7. Google Ad network will either dismantled or facing a boycott from other parties

Fast enough and good idea to showcase Typesense. Well done ! On a UX perspective, I would add a link from the recipe title to the recipe page.

I'm living in Martinique where there is an important rhum industrie. Another common use of bagasse is compost.
guillem_lefait··on Show HN: LibreASR – An On-Premises, Streaming Speech Recognition System
Nice project and bold to demo with a French native speaking English.

On a side project, I'm looking at the best interface to facilitate further edition (correction) of the recognized text. Target is local councils and regional parliament, where sessions are usually recorded but without transcripts. If xx% accuracy is enough to identify keywords, manual edition is still required to not distort precise meaning.

Nothing special in the interface, but two features seems interesting: 1. Be able to collaborate in real-time. Maybe using Etherpad API to merge multiple editions. 2. Easily validate text and label speakers so as to generate new training data.

Pointers to similar existing solutions would be very appreciated.

guillem_lefait··on Why is my unused Vizio TV sending gigabytes of traffic every day?
Vith Vizio data you get a log whenever user use its remote to (un)pause, go forward, or change channel. I'm not sure LoRa has enough bandwidth to send the usual data. However, it is still possible to send a lightly simpler data (not doing ACR on everything, but identify channels only) But would it worth it right now ? Until a large portion of buyers disable (now or in the next few years) the full data collection, it seems unlikely to me.
guillem_lefait··on No More Google
I both have a custom domain email (mostly for my own work) and a hey.com account. I did not try not move everything from gmail to one or another email as it would be painful. However, I'm moving things time to time and most of my new subscriptions are using either my own domain or the hey domain. In a year or two, I expect to start to redirect all remaining gmail emails to my new main email.

guillem_lefait··on Plausible Analytics Isn't GDPR Compliant
One could argue that analytics purpose is not direct marketing purpose. My understanding is that as analytics can be considered as a usual/expected business process, it may use legitimate interests as far as it fulfill requirements (information of the process, the right to opt-out, ...). However, the problem is that analytics may be advanced analytics. Is the retrieval of Adwords parameters from a glcid allowed/expected ? Is the injection of historical behaviour or marketing segment allowed/expected ?
guillem_lefait··on Plausible Analytics Isn't GDPR Compliant
Have you any specific document or decision in mind ?
guillem_lefait··on Plausible Analytics Isn't GDPR Compliant
Yeah, but the "legitimate interest" implies that the processing is necessary (because it override your consent). In which context and what kind of analytics is really necessary ? Analysis of the incoming channels ? Understanding if there are some technical problems ? Comparing engagement from different marketing solutions ?

I'm working on that market and find that interpretation is quite difficult as soon as you have multiple actors around the table. Example: because recommendations from DPAs are not exactly the same, then you may have different requirements of the same company from different country legal department within the UE.

guillem_lefait··on Bosch develops rapid test for Covid-19
"under two and a half hours" per test. To be able to make 10 tests per day, you'll probably can't have any delay between tests : 1 day = 10 x (2 hours + 24minutes).

If accuracy is an issue, why not doing a two pass procedure ? 1) test quick and cheap 2) if results have low confidence, move to longer/more reliable testing method
