guestbest··on GitHub Copilot Coding Agent
I go back and forth between ChatGPT and copilot in vs code. It really makes the grammar guessing much easier in objc. It’s not as good on libraries and none existent on 3rd party libraries, but that isn’t maybe because I challenge it enough. It makes tons of flow and grammar errors which are so easy to spot that I end up using the code most of the time after a small correction. I’m optimistic about the future especially since this is only costing me $10 a month. I have dozens of iOS apps to update. All of them are basically productivity apps that I use and sell so double plus good.
guestbest··on CarPlay Ultra, the next generation of CarPlay, begins rolling out today
Sorry. Maybe I should clarify. I meant isolated in that I could upgrade or still drive if the infortainmemt system went kaput.
guestbest··on CarPlay Ultra, the next generation of CarPlay, begins rolling out today
I like my simple analog controls next to the infotainment system. Lucky for me I can’t afford a new car, especially an Aston Martin , so I won’t be affected .
guestbest··on The History and Legacy of Visual Basic
It really was one of the best language and ide environments that was completely pushed aside by security considerations from the much more widely used general purpose internet web browser.
guestbest··on ALICE detects the conversion of lead into gold at the LHC
If one wanted to fool someone into accepting gold painted lead as genuine gold, it is easier than trying to pass off pyrite. Golds much higher melting point is a giveaway, though. I don’t think it was the idea of atomic properties that was attempted to be changed but the selection of certain properties that alchemy was attempting to transmute to lead from gold, such as melting point and color to make a cheaper gold in a lab.
guestbest··on Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview: even better coding performance
What kind of problems are you putting in where that is the solution? Just curious.
guestbest··on Bare metal printf – C standard library without OS
Does anyone still do it that way?
guestbest··on Google Paid Samsung 'Enormous Sums' for Gemini AI App Installs
Hoover up personal user data and AI related text entry and deny competition from accessing it.
guestbest··on The Subjective Charms of Objective-C
It is a great language to build on but I think that it was really competing against c++ and unlike QT never had the corporate backing outside of Apple like many open source frameworks have.
guestbest··on Meta antitrust trial kicks off in federal court
IRC means relay, so it makes sense to drop messages unless the service runs a pop mail server for out of band messages. Protocol means little to the user
guestbest··on Meta antitrust trial kicks off in federal court
I don’t think we can go back to some things like ircd or mud talkers because they are too “chatty” to users. People like simplified centralized services with on screen discovery in the form of popups. The small internet will have to stay small
guestbest··on Mozilla launching “Thundermail” email service to take on Gmail, Microsoft 365
It’s so seamless for chat to become the medium that we mostly communicate with this AI industry that it’s a shame email, which may have come about first, a little hazy on the history, email didn’t become the means of which we communicate with AI tools
guestbest··on The case against conversational interfaces
If the driver could queue actions it would make chat interfaced driving easier since the desired actions could be prepared for implementation by button press rather than needed a dedicated button built at a factory built by an engineer.
guestbest··on 'People are angry': A vibe shift is happening across the workforce
The short answer is start your own company and to contract. The more realistic you are about your abilities the quicker you’ll find work. For IT the big three are network analysts, database administrators and system administrators (cloud?). Endless jobs. I wish I had known that then but I was in telecom network engineering. It’s a limited field.
guestbest··on 'People are angry': A vibe shift is happening across the workforce
It’s probably healthier to just move on, at least that was what it was for me when I was let go during the Great Recession when the company when bankrupt and reneged on severance paying only the legal requirements.
guestbest··on Big LLMs weights are a piece of history
If we can’t have fun with names, why even be in IT?
guestbest··on Big LLMs weights are a piece of history
Slim pickings, then?
guestbest··on Big LLMs weights are a piece of history
Why not LLLM for large LLM’s and SLLM for small LLM’s, assuming there is no middle ground
guestbest··on Apple's long-lost hidden recovery partition from 1994 has been found
I do this with windows 10 for a tablet with a detachable keyboard to make it like an eink display.
guestbest··on The Internet of Beefs (2020)
Oh no he didn’t!
guestbest··on Ruth Belville: the "Greenwich Time Lady" who sold time from 1892 to 1940 (2022)
He had three wives in succession. Any one or three could make the claim. There was probably a limited budget that had to go through a small committee to allocate the new funds. After a while it runs out.
guestbest··on Ruth Belville: the "Greenwich Time Lady" who sold time from 1892 to 1940 (2022)
I wonder how many widows were taking a pension from the late John.
guestbest··on Natural occurring molecule rivals Ozempic in weight loss, sidesteps side effects
Any calorie deficit of 500 under BMR and the body will not just consume the fat stores but also muscle. That’s what I learned on the bodybuilding forums at least. Some people went too high on the deficit and ended up losing some muscle definition
guestbest··on Ask HN: What less-popular systems programming language are you using?
An FTP link for documents? That’s a real throwback
guestbest··on The Kill-or-Be-Killed Fight for Crypto's Future
It seems very much it came from an AI prompt. Funny, people will still read the article thinking that was entirely written by a person.
guestbest··on LeetCode but You Can Force People to Code in Light Mode >:)
I’m actually moving to an extreme because of the busy colors on the screen attracting distractions, high contrast white on windows with Color Filters on grayscale. It’s like reading a newspaper. Now I just need to increase the window frame borders for the touch screen and it looks like eink
guestbest··on 20 years working on the same software product
That’s pretty incredible. The oldest software I still support as a microisv is in the iOS App Store at 15 years old.
guestbest··on Hotline for modern Apple systems
Well, the systems had little to no security. Also the multimedia resolution was not very good
guestbest··on What is DOTS?
Ah, but do you have a white paper?
guestbest··on Tesla replaces laid-off U.S. workers with foreigners using visas pushed by Musk
Disempowered workers is the whole point of the H1B program. Also, what is the point of importing all this labor to replace a local labor pool when we have a global internet, zoom, GitHub, basically free international calls, etc. If works needs to be done on site, why not move the company to India or whoever the labor is needed so it’s not so disruptive to families and workers?
