gtt··on Blosc – A high performance compressor optimized for binary data
btw, I'm currently tasked with Kolmogorov complexity estimation, so could someone recommend me best (from ratio point of view) compressors?
gtt··on Ask HN: Do you still use reddit.com?
Only niche or non mainstream subreddits. Anything popular is absolutely cursed those days.
gtt··on Effects of Intermittent Fasting on Health, Aging, and Disease [pdf]
Too bad, there is no abstract in the paper.
gtt··on Kotlingrad: A shape-safe DSL for differentiable programming
So, can we expect KotlinTorch soon?
gtt··on ‘Limbic Capitalism’ Preys on Our Addicted Brains
I think usage of Capitalism here is a misnomer, because replacing 'capitalism' with 'human greed' or 'human fallibility' changes nothing.

The problem is not caused by markets or property rights. If anything, competition actually makes games least toxic. Look how pay2win games being replaced by vanity items selling games.

gtt··on Microsoft launches a drag-and-drop machine learning tool
>> ML requires a solid math background

I've seen many people in ML not quite understanding what they are doing randomly trying different things until it "works".

gtt··on Mastodon and Keybase
I never understood keybase as a useful product. What do you use keybase for?
gtt··on Gmail Services Global Outage
Account is not a problem and they don't store your mail in the cloud (or any information without your consent).
gtt··on Gmail Services Global Outage
In my experience it crashes a few times a week and have abandoned feel. Is there any modern fork?
gtt··on Gmail Services Global Outage
I have correspondence with various Chinese and Cyrillic alphabet symbols and their closed source string\decoder processor mysteriously fails on "complex" symbols and I cannot debug it! Otherwise is an excellent client.
gtt··on Gmail Services Global Outage
Semi-related, but can anyone suggest good open source email client? I'm working on several computers with macos/linux and Gmail isn't slow only on my deep learning rig, so I'm looking for something to replace it.
gtt··on World's Top 26 Billionaires Now Own as Much as the Poorest 3.8B
I think this happens because of technological development creating and enhancing positive feedback loops due to specialization and economy of scale. Can we have similar levels of technological development without such super concentration of wealth?
gtt··on Ask HN: If you were to switch career, what would you do?
Before anything else, I'd actually took a sabbatical.
gtt··on The Writer Who Destroyed an Empire
From the title I though it ought to be about Karl Marx.
gtt··on Show HN: A note-taking web app that won't ever betray you
I actually found that using special directory for notes and git and grep is actually convenient. The only thing I'm missing is fuzzy search features of grep, like build on word2vec models.
gtt··on Surprising hidden order unites prime numbers and crystal-like materials
Have you though about mailing it to authors of the paper? The should somehow cite you, I guess.
gtt··on If Jeff Bezos wants to help low-income people why not just pay them better?
You put yourself in position of arbiter, able to distinguish needs from wants, what matters and what does not, what is fantasy and what is not, etc. This makes arguing with you kind of useless.
gtt··on Bernie Sanders Intros ‘Stop Bad Employers by Zeroing Out Subsidies (BEZOS)’ Bill
Soviet union pretty much did.
gtt··on Venezuela's Inflation to Reach 1M Percent
Yes, but they can buy food and housing in bulk with bitcoin easily, so this is way better than they have it now.

Worrying about coffee seems unrealistic, "let them have a cake"-like thinking.

gtt··on Venezuela's Inflation to Reach 1M Percent
If they cannot control currency, may be they should give up this control?
gtt··on Venezuela's Inflation to Reach 1M Percent
We decompose the problem and some smaller problems one by one. All large enough transactions could be settled with bitcoin. Which means industry could start to operations again.

People who don't what to follow this tried and true approach of solving smaller problems usually don't want problem to be solved at all.

gtt··on Venezuela's Inflation to Reach 1M Percent
Is not that they don't have money to eat, they don't have enough food to eat. As I see it, at the hear of the issue is broken economics. Sound money, like bitcoin, could be a great solution to several problems of economics of Venezuela.
gtt··on Venezuela's Inflation to Reach 1M Percent
Honest question: Why don't they just adopt bitcoin and stop this madness?
gtt··on WeWork Will No Longer Let Employees Expense Any Kind of Meat
If such parasitic behaviour (on part of finance team in this example) is tolerated by the upper management it is better for productive developer to update his resume and spend time on networking and seeking the new opportunities. The nachos are just signs of things to come.
gtt··on Show HN: B2blaze – A Backblaze B2 library for Python
Can I use B2 as replacement for S3? Namely, I need "get upload URL" like pre-signed S3 URLs.
gtt··on Your “high bar” is wrecking your team
Those millennia world was mostly in Malthusian trap.
gtt··on Your “high bar” is wrecking your team
Like it or not, economy needs ads.
gtt··on Ask HN: What is the first thing you implement at a new company?
Could you share a longer description of how do you do it?
gtt··on Wi-fi is an important threat to human health
>>... single-author papers scream "crank" to me.

Not necessary. Consider this: https://scholar.google.ru/citations?user=qc6CJjYAAAAJ&hl=ru&...

gtt··on Ask HN: How do you manage your manager?
>People quit people, not jobs.

To be fair, I've seen organizations so dysfunctional that even good managers could not protect their people from ambient shittiness. Below certain threshold there is no salvation for organization.
