grp··on A man who put up $1.5M to help 200 Syrian refugees
Where did you explain Sweden is a bad example?

I mean nearly everybody knows that foreigners and xenophobia are correlated.

grp··on An Ode to Linux Desktop Users Everywhere
In case of, I found that tool when I was searching for something just like efibootmgr (it might help too).

Have fun, you don't have to wait.

grp··on An Ode to Linux Desktop Users Everywhere
Maybe rEFInd[1] can help!

UEFI has some cool things, like you don't really need a bootloader if you don't mind switching kernels. Just tell the bios which partition you want to boot.

grp··on An Ode to Linux Desktop Users Everywhere
and my Vaio laptop runs voidlinux for 2 years, after arch for 4 years and fedora for 3!

Still booting in less time than the bios needs to. :)

grp··on OpenBSD on PC Engines APU2
I also don't have the equipment to make "real world" measurements.

But I'm running my personal website on it* 24/7 for 6 months and I can hardly notice the change on the electricity bill. It's awesome!

* exactly the same config

grp··on Learning about evolution from species who thrive without sexual reproduction
Sorry? Can you go first? Please, show us the way!
grp··on Donald Trump Is Elected President
It's not really hard. Do you remember the last 4 consecutives years where USA was in peace?
grp··on Donald Trump is the president-elect of the U.S.
I'm sure libyans, siryans and iraqui already have one.

But maybe you call for the porn version?

grp··on Donald Trump is the president-elect of the U.S.
I don't think so.

Unless you already invested money in your own life, your family and friends and there is still some money that really serves you nothing for the next 5-10 years.

grp··on Freeing my tablet: Android hacking, software and hardware
With pleasure but only if it's a success.. I want to be very careful so it may takes time.

There is work in progress for sony camera on android (mine is too old): http://www.personal-view.com/faqs/sony-hack/hack-development

grp··on Freeing my tablet: Android hacking, software and hardware
Thank you so much! Your link and this article are just what I needed to take back control of my sony compact camera. I will try it soon now.
grp··on Philosophy Beyond the Academy
If those children were learning critical thinking, maybe they would not be simple sad extensions of theirs parents.

Two days ago at a welfare office, I said to a 21yo guy: "Take your free time and read! Learn new things!" and he asked me why...

So many lifes wasted just because you have to only be efficient in a broken system.

(I was at that office because of my too much critical thinking label)

grp··on Philosophy Beyond the Academy
If you never learn Kriekegaard, how would you know?

I'm not a big fan of him but I find his view about politics pretty interesting and actual (from an online translator):

Two powers govern the crowds: jealousy and stupidity. Those who govern know how easy it is to win the flock to his views.

In politics, the public is at stake and no matter to have the truth with him. What counts is winning ground. It flatters the lowest desires.

The majority rules as if truth was a matter of numbers. For Kierkegaard, democracy is a danger because the mass does not try to understand, has no ideal and follows one that flatters most.

Against Hegel, he does not believe that moral virtue can be found only in the state. The individual is, however, constantly under threat. The crowd is lying when the individual is the awakening of the spirit.

grp··on Saving the Swiss Watch Industry Again
For someone working in the watchmaking industry, there is nothing new here. Another post on this managerial crisis, it's not due to financial crisis or smartwatches entering the market.

It's pretty sad that CEOs doesn't want to speak clearly about the real problems (except one [1], in french).

>> The [Swatch group] recently warned that first-half profit would plummet more than 50 percent. Really?!?

They can repeat THAT again without being bashed?

Maybe they could just shut up and be happy they still have profit...

grp··on Saving the Swiss Watch Industry Again
I live near TAG factory, the CEO is far from amazing (if you talk of Biver) but the previous one was.

And they made a smartwatch which was outdated before entering the market.

grp··on Solvespace – parametric 2d/3d CAD
It uses Open Cascade: https://www.opencascade.com/
grp··on PYNQ-Z1 – The first dev board to support Pynq, a Python platform for Zync SoC
Yeah, sure! I'm a watchmaking engineer, so clearly not the primary target of those kind of boards. We had electronic engineering course at school, as we are supposed to also develop quartz watches.

And hardcore user of linux for nearly 12 years. For example, I managed to replace the firmware of my ISP propreitary router nearly without any documentation (not supported by openwrt and co).

But I wasted days to try to understand the xilinx way we are supposed to use.

Every tutorials (I found) just explain how to install the vivado toolchain and stop there. So I assumed they had the same problems...

Do you have more recommendations, please?

grp··on PYNQ-Z1 – The first dev board to support Pynq, a Python platform for Zync SoC
I am unable of running a simple "hello world" example...
grp··on New DDoS Attack record 1.5+ Tbps
It reminds me the times when I was on phone with my ISP and he reboots my router remotely, live. In my head: what the * !?

Now, I'm paranoid each time they push an upgrade without warning. It was them or an E.T?

grp··on Defending Against Hackers Took a Back Seat at Yahoo, Insiders Say
Maybe you can try Bernard Stiegler. His english wikipedia page is a little poor in information, so I put a link about his last book (not yet translated).

And with the Civil War and the two World Wars, it greatly reduces the need for jobs.
grp··on After the coup, Turkey turns against America
Yeah, if they don't destroy Iraq why do they set conditions for the reconstruction!
grp··on After the coup, Turkey turns against America
Source please!
grp··on After the coup, Turkey turns against America
So I'm not the only to hallucinate? A few years ago, the goal was to make fall Bachar by any way, no?

It's so sad that a Nobel Peace Prize has the worst foreign policy ever.

grp··on After the coup, Turkey turns against America
I just finished reading last Chomsky book and that kind of post tastes so differently now.

For example, that sentence is really strange:

From the American perspective, Turkey has never been fully committed to the war against Islamist groups in Syria.

grp··on Terrorist attack in France
It's paradoxical.

Normally when someone failed in a company, it is fired. When a company failed in a market, it bankrupt.

In this sector (maybe it's the state level): more budget.

They would have done better to invest in the future of those stupid guys.

Sad.

grp··on New haskell-lang.org
I hope the first one will be: solving the gui state!
grp··on New haskell-lang.org
Producing really good code doesn't give you the right to claim property of the userland (sort of). For me, it's a huge problem.

Imagine if each companies (using haskell commercially) start to act like that...

grp··on New haskell-lang.org
We encourage all Haskellers to join, and to take part in lively discussions of how to improve the state of the art within Haskell.

I read it like there should be a problem to solve, but english isn't my mother tongue.
