grep··on From concept to launch in 24 hrs and why there's no reason you can't do this too
". I’m currently on the $15 shared database, which accounts for probably 99% of my costs so far (the rest being marginal costs for S3 [likely a few cents])."

Why not on the FREE plan?

grep··on Tell HN: You can spam every user of the frid.ge(YC S10)
What's the point of using frid.ge when you have fb groups?
grep··on Webbynode's take on rapid node.js deployment
I'll get down voted for this but IMO, how can we trust a VPS provider if it goes down when it hits HN?
grep··on Going Freemium: One Year Later
Impressive.
grep··on An update on Heroku Node.js support
Joyent -> $250/mo for 2GB RAM

Heroku -> $108/mo for the equivalent

EngineYard -> $85/mo for the equivalent

Not everyone can spend $100 per month in a server.

grep··on An update on Heroku Node.js support
Heroku -> Expensive

Joyent -> Expensive

EngineYard -> Expensive

Is it possible that nobody thinks in the small guy for a managed service?

I'm waiting for nodejitsu, let's see what they have to offer.

grep··on [dead]
He trashed an employee, live.
grep··on Ask HN: Who's the best programmer you ever worked with?
Where do you find good developers in Philippines? They are 10x cheaper but they are 10x worse and take 10x more time. I'd like to know your opinion on that.
grep··on HTML5 video chat implemented in Webkit GTK
Will this work in current browsers?
grep··on Heroku: Announcing the Add-on Provider Program
70% for you, 30% for Heroku.

Is Steve Huffman the designer? I like the simplicity of both of his sites.
grep··on Programmer looking for co-founder/designer
you may want to check http://www.builditwith.me/
grep··on Ask HN: What "infrastructure" do you use at your startup/company?
"until Twiddla went big"

How big to have to change?

"half dozen boxes ... for S3stat"

What kind of boxes do you use and how much do you need to process?

(I use 2 of your services and I love it)

grep··on Announcing Micro Instances for Amazon EC2
If you keep your offer high enough, you can keep spot instances running 24/7, unless there's no offers at all.
grep··on Announcing Micro Instances for Amazon EC2
What can we conclude about the performance comparing with Linode and Slicehost smaller offers? I'm curious if anyone has any conclusions.
grep··on Announcing Micro Instances for Amazon EC2
Can you keep your spot instance up 24/7?
grep··on Announcing Micro Instances for Amazon EC2
I hope EngineYard drop their prices a lot. I really want to use it but it's too expensive.

It's not so easy to earn money clean dog poop where you're not in the US.

grep··on Ask HN: looking for a tech cofounder, already have 13k users after 2 months
Why not hire someone as a freelancer before accepting her as a co-founder?
grep··on Ask HN: looking for a tech cofounder, already have 13k users after 2 months
It will be difficult to be accepted in YC without a proper co-founder, one that you know for longer than 1 month.
grep··on Ask hN: Most difficult positions to fill?
Is that true for startups as well?
grep··on Tell HN: Scratching my own itch: HN new comments highlight
It doesn't seem to work very well here.

Could you elaborate about the qualities that you look for in a founding team?
grep··on 10,000+ users in 24 hours & YC funding a few days later: lessons learnt
I wonder how are they going to make money off this.
grep··on Ask HN: Do you host paid video content?
Yes, but there's a difference in capturing the video one at a time or run Orbit and rip all the movies at once.
grep··on Ask HN: Do you host paid video content?
"You set the Amazon S3 ACL on your objects so that only you and CloudFront have read permission for the objects. This means that end user access to the objects can only be through CloudFront."

The ACL is for the S3 and not the CloudFront.

Don't take my word for it:

Edit: The signed URL protects the "copy and paste" but not the "easy" ripping.

grep··on Ask HN: Do you host paid video content?
Amazon CloudFront does not provide any security against copying your rtmp/http stream and paste it in any other website.
grep··on Ask HN: Do you host paid video content?
$499 for 250GB BW seems a bit too much.
