I realized that the old QuickTime movie wouldn't load for most (it does load natively on iPhones!). If you follow the following link, you should be able to watch the movie with VLC and/or convert it with ffmpeg:

gregsadetsky··on Ask HN: Tech Interview Coaches Worth the Money?
do you want to reach out (email in profile)? I'm happy to spend 30 minutes on a call about this
gregsadetsky··on Ask HN: Tech Interview Coaches Worth the Money?
Have you tried mock interviews with an AI agent, and specifically asking the AI to ask you the same questions you were asked, and doing your best to answer as you did? Have you already tried this and did you get useful feedback?
gregsadetsky··on Show HN: Search the lyrics of 500 HÖR Berlin techno sets
If you dig a tiny bit in the devtools, you’ll see the sqlite file that’s loaded in the frontend with all of the data :)

A word cloud or some stats is a great idea!

gregsadetsky··on Show HN: Search the lyrics of 500 HÖR Berlin techno sets
it's a bit tongue in cheek :-) and I agree, searching for ... "sounds" in descriptive/onomatopoeia-like language would be great!
gregsadetsky··on Show HN: An endless scrolling word search game
Super fun, congrats! Works really well

My only feedback is just that the homepage had a lot of elements that distracted me initially - I wasn't sure if I had to type something (the input examples changing all the time made me think it was important to fill it out)

I ended up clicking "Start Game" on a whim and was glad that I could check it out immediately. Maybe make the "I just want to play now" option/button/CTA larger/more obvious (i.e. giving it more focus)?

To test it again, I just typed some words in the input bar, it forced me to login, I chose the Google login, I was then brought back to https://endless-wordsearch.com/#/sso-callback but the top right button still says Sign In, and my input was lost. So I assume the login didn't work?

I typed my input again, a popup appeared (mentioning Clerk)... then it finally logged me in. Now I'm back at the homepage, and my input has been lost again :-)

I typed my input a third type, and now I'm getting "Generation failed".

The repo is astoundingly clear and well maintained too:

Stellar work!

gregsadetsky··on Show HN: Peephole
The idea for this project came from sitting in public places like airports. My laptop's back is covered in stickers, so you'd think it would be a great icebreaker, but I still feel like I was pushing people "away" rather than inviting them to see what I was working on.

I ordered a pair of "Cheap Yellow Displays" (ESP32-based, ~$15 each) and the idea came to me to pretend like I could punch a "hole" in my monitor - to make it "transparent" in a few places so people could see what I was working on. A bit of Arduino code, Python + serial wrangling, and I got to a working prototype. (two, actually)

Is there any interest in a small USB-driven display? I'm curious! Cheers, don't hesitate for any questions.

gregsadetsky··on Rsync.net Technical Notes – Q4 2025
Another very happy rsync.net customer!

A note/question to other macOS users:

I have "Require password after screen saver begins" turned on.

I realized that because of this, when my screensaver is on, ssh keys with passphrases (stored in my Keychain) would not work, which would lead rsync to fail.

I ended up using a dedicated passphrase-less ssh key for rsync. Not ideal.

Are there workarounds to have backups run while my computer is "idle'ing"? Thnaks!

This is 5% off topic, but just to say that Zack (the person behind this service + Infinite Digits) is (also) a super prolific (and extremely kind) developer/maker/hacker with a ton of exquisite software+hardware musical projects:

- check out https://infinitedigits.co/docs/products/zeptocore/ if you're into sample-y, jungle/breakcore-y audio mangling/button mashing

Thanks for posting!

If you have a Dockerfile that bundles ghostty-web with a backend (even just `ttyd` or a simple socket server), I’d love to host the official demo for you. We can give it a dedicated isolated environment so people can run vim safely.

cheers, 3d is glorious.

gregsadetsky··on LLVM-MOS – Clang LLVM fork targeting the 6502
Super interesting, thanks. I specifically thought that its modular aspect made it possible to just "load" architectures or parsers as ... "plugins"

But I'm sure it's more complicated than that. :-)

Thanks again

gregsadetsky··on Show HN: Boing
I'm extremely grateful for this. My most deeply held secret is that I wish I could do this for a living - digitally modeling weird/beautiful objects/instruments and work on that forever haha. (And maybe make pedals out of them, I don't know)

If you don't mind humoring me (I'm quite the novice in this field), if I automated the recording of "all" possible positions for a spring (say I had a motor positioned in a way that would let me pull the spring in any polar direction), would that make modeling potentially easier?

There might be a "train an AI, here's 1000 recordings" angle, but I'm not necessarily interested in/asking about that.

Just strictly for modeling, would it help the R&D phase to have a lot of high sample rate recordings? Thanks a lot!

P.S. Also, if you have a good intro to DSP class/book, I'd love to hear it. I know about a few, but a recc is always appreciated

gregsadetsky··on Show HN: Boing
I'm not showing that message (ie those words are not from me) so yeah sorry - I'm not sure what's going on
gregsadetsky··on LLVM-MOS – Clang LLVM fork targeting the 6502
I don't know this world well (I know what llvm is) but - does anyone know why this was made as a fork vs. contributing to llvm? I suppose it's harder to contribute code to the real llvm..?

Thanks
