greatpatton··on France planning new aircraft carrier
why do you need to post 3 times the same Turkish laughable propaganda?
greatpatton··on 'I am mine': Alzheimer's at 41 (2018)
Yes "death tourism" is a thing and almost a business (business side is highly regulated but some association are borderline). Here in Switzerland where assisted suicide is legal, people from all over Europe are coming to die.
greatpatton··on Apple M1 vs. Ryzen 3900X vs. Intel I9 in Software Development
AWS can set their own price (or subsidize it to keep people on their cloud), more efficient per $ is not really a good way to judge how good is the chip, though it is a good measure for how much money will stay in your pocket.
greatpatton··on Apple M1 vs. Ryzen 3900X vs. Intel I9 in Software Development
It's not panic but this is really annoying like with AVX-512. The side effect is that people are making choice for the target architecture.
greatpatton··on EU leaders agree to cut emissions by at least 55% by end of decade
Given that UK is not able to keep its word for more than a year (internal market clause), it is sensible for EU to not trust whatever promise the current PM is making.
greatpatton··on EU leaders agree to cut emissions by at least 55% by end of decade
ok fine but in 2020 63% of Germany electricity production is carbon neutral (renewable + nuclear), and this is increasing every year. https://energy-charts.info/charts/energy_pie/chart.htm?l=en&...
greatpatton··on Morgan Stanley to Shift About $120B of Assets to Germany
I mean that can attract people from all over Europe to take these positions. It's likely a question of money.
greatpatton··on Camouflaged Military Bunkers of Switzerland (2015)
Missile bases are just sitting ducks that are waiting to be destroyed before the real attack... Look at the Karabach, The nice S300 anti-airplane system was obliterated at the start of the war with cheap drones. (even the anti-drones systems were destroyed by drones)
greatpatton··on Camouflaged Military Bunkers of Switzerland (2015)
Switzerland has 30 F-18 (originally 32 but 2 crashed), and 53 F-5. The Tiger are due to be replaced soon as the people voted to buy new airplanes.
greatpatton··on Agents raid home of fired Florida data scientist who built Covid-19 dashboard
Unfortunately this is not the case in the US thanks to qualified immunity...
greatpatton··on Rebekah Jones' house raided at gunpoint
Yes American cops don't miss an opportunity to amaze the world... (and make people believe that USA is the less secure place in the world to behave like this).
greatpatton··on Plugin hybrids in new emissions scandal: test show higher pollution than claimed
T&E across Europe are biased (not in a bad sense but they will drive their agenda as strongly as the other side) ecological association. In my country they will oppose all personal transportation but bicycle and public transportation. That's why this kind of "study" should be read with a grain of salt.
greatpatton··on Apple Silicon M1 chip in MacBook Air outperforms high-end 16-inch MacBook Pro
That's why I'm saying anymore. It was the case but it is no more possible with the new Apple Silicone laptop.
greatpatton··on Apple Silicon M1 chip in MacBook Air outperforms high-end 16-inch MacBook Pro
There is a lockdown as you cannot even boot linux anymore...
greatpatton··on Scientist David Sinclair on why we age and why he thinks we don’t have to (2019)
It will because your immune system is also aging. If your immune system stays young it may help to keep the cancer rate at the level you get in younger people.
greatpatton··on Tunnels in the US cost more than anywhere else
Come on freaking Switzerland where the minimum wage is around 4000$ per month was able to construct the longest tunnels (one for each direction) in the world for 1/10 of this cost. Even in my small city they are building an extension to a train tunnel in the middle of the city 1.4km -> 150M$.

There is really a big problem here.

greatpatton··on California to Require All New Vehicles Be Zero-Emission by 2035
My point (I'm not the OP) was that Germany situation is even better than what you stated :) and that as of today the 50% coal is in reality 20%.
greatpatton··on California to Require All New Vehicles Be Zero-Emission by 2035
Please look at the latest Germany figures: https://energy-charts.info/charts/energy_pie/chart.htm?l=en&...

Germany coal percentage in electricity production in 2020 is 21% and 66% of electricity generation is 0 carbon (renewable + nuclear). Coal part in total production is decreasing year over year.

Of course Germany is using other country to import when wind is not blowing, but at the scale of a continent we can see that most west European countries can go soon to an almost 0% carbon electricity production.

greatpatton··on Amnesty International denied access to court in the Assange extradition hearing
That would be a nice narrative if it was really possible to access the courtroom. Only 5 persons of the public are allowed in, meaning there is no access.
greatpatton··on 91% of plastic isn't recycled (2018)
Here is an article in English: https://lenews.ch/2020/01/14/swiss-get-more-pet-recycling-po...
greatpatton··on Nvidia's Arm deal sparks quick backlash in chip industry
But how do you define a US company? In a globalized world it is very difficult to pin point a company to a country, so the headquarter is one way to defined it. Though it is not going to prevent the US to impose sanction to whoever they want.
greatpatton··on China Built a Vast New Infrastructure to Imprison Uighurs
I think that regarding free pass the US get it all the time. Look at the Iraq war, I think that only western country that had to suffer consequences was France with the Freedom Fry silliness. Moreover in the US almost everybody is proud to have fight this war...

We in Europe should be more vocal about what US and China think they can do to the rest of the world without consequences. China is an awful country, we just have to look at what they did in Tibet, for the last 40 years... there is nothing new.

European country are currently doing nothing and this is despicable, my country being the worst, we just discovered that Chinese police officer are invited here to identify potential Chinese to send back to China... the moral standpoint is very weak, and only facts matter.

greatpatton··on Children’s role in spread of virus bigger than thought
Most of this is coming from a study in France in early January where 2 British kids were infected and in contact with 130 other kids at different schools and none of them were infected. So now we can suppose that this study may have different issue.
greatpatton··on Trump gives nod to Oracle buyout of TikTok in US
The huge hypocrisies here is that the sell must be done to a US company, not a European or an Indian one for instance but specifically a US one. I think that's a good lesson for the rest of the world, and a big warning.

Btw I think that following this and the Huawei little war, Apple is about to suffer from it. It's very probable that the Apple store will be forbidden in China. This will destroy Apple in China (impacting 18% Apple revenue), and it will at the same time preserve the image of China as the factory of the world. This is just the beginning of a long war.

greatpatton··on US plans to produce ‘Iberian’ ham in Texas and Georgia
No the best metaphor is trademark. When you buy an Apple product, you don't expect some cheap Chinese rip off inside of a package with an Apple logo. Same here, except that the trademark doesn't belong to a corporation.
greatpatton··on US plans to produce ‘Iberian’ ham in Texas and Georgia
They are great inefficiencies for industrially produced meat, but all cow or pig that are let free to feed are more efficient as most of the land they are feeding on cannot be used to grow something useful.
greatpatton··on Huawei CEO: After September 15 No More Kirin Chips
At the same time the US caused (directly/indirectly) the death of 400-800k people in Iraq. Somehow there is a double standard regarding human rights.

China is despicable but I think that the moral ground of the US regarding this kind of issue is quite shaky.

greatpatton··on Huawei CEO: After September 15 No More Kirin Chips
But Qualcomm is an American company. How would they be able to sell to Huawei?
greatpatton··on Huawei CEO: After September 15 No More Kirin Chips
Can someone provide more context about what SoC they are going to use for their phones from now on as this is not really clear from the article.
greatpatton··on US to ban transactions with ByteDance and WeChat in 45 days
US companies are not forbidden to operate, they don't want to comply with Chinese surveillance laws... Apple who decided to comply indirectly by letting a Chinese company manage the data, is offering all their services there.

This is a public image question for Western world companies more than anything.
