Kidding.
I would do these steps. 1) Don't contact this guy any more or reply to any messages. 2) Ignore whatever BS non-contract that exists. 3) Not worry that it's only been 10 hours from Odesk. It's not a secret agent command center it's just Odesk. 4) Read Masonlove's comments in this thread and try to have a good laugh. Seriously, they're hilarious.
They really want to find a way to have me do exactly this. "Hey I need more detergent. Press skinner-box level. Great more detergent is on it's way! Right from your favorites list on Amazon."
And frankly, that would be great and wildly convenient.
I think Amazon has the right idea. Just launch products and see how they go, what you learn, and if they stick. Very interesting company to watch operate.
1) Take a random amount of money... $25...$50... research and donate it to a charity you think is cool. Pick one and do it. Like now.
2) Are you in your house right now? Still on your computer? Go outside and walk around. It doesn't have to be supremely interesting or perfect.
3) Go to a coffeeshop or other place you can sit. Get a drink. Stare at the wall without your computer. Try not to be productive. Drink your coffee. You are not allowed to be productive.
4) The book "Feeling Good" helped me immensely.
> no other way to achieve equality, other than specifically separating the groups that need to be treated differently than they are now
Is this really true? Perhaps you could find ways to improve processes overall so that "equality" was an outcome of an improved unbiased process without focusing on specific race, sex or beliefs.
Working to achieve a 1:1 sex ratio between men and women creates a sense of division by fundamentally looking at men and women as different when they should be looked at as the same in the workplace. It fosters a sense of "otherness", polarization, two separate groups and a sense of difference, when there should be a sense of LACK of importance of gender/sex.
Same pattern applies to racial diversity. By looking at skin color and purposefully categorizing people and trying to achieve a certain balance, you enhance a sense of group-identity and otherness that creates racial division in the first place.
I think this is why this issue seems so intractable. Just by talking about and labeling groups you help reinforce and create those groups and divisions between them.
Also, does anyone know of a long time horizon news company that primarily provides 3-5 year updates on large macro topics? Actually maybe that's just called "a book"
I think the frustration with music lovers is that relevance isn't really determined by ad spend or what's promoted (I already determined a band was relevant to me by liking them) and it shouldn't be difficult or require extra "boosting" for bands to just have a follower receive each update they have.
I have a friend who is very into music and uses facebook because artists and their fans haven't agreed on some other music centered social app (yet).
He wants the exact opposite of what you described i.e. see ALL updates from all bands I follow in a feed.
His feeling is "Facebook sucks for music because I don't even see the posts from the artists that I follow". I tend to agree. If you are following some niche group or organization and you want to be certain that you receive updates... well facebook isn't good for that anymore. Who knows what you have been algorithmically disqualified from viewing?
