Interesting article. I found it very sad that the 1st person mentioned was identified most notably as "a former Google intern". One hopes that s/he has done something in life of more value than making coffee for other proclaimed ubermenchen.
Reading this, one gets the impression that she's part of the problem that she describes. Living in the Bay Area, I loathed that SF culture enough to not spend any more time there than necessary. Which doesn't mean I thought more of San Jose, merely was able to easily ignore it.
Bravo. How does one get a job if one is the opposite of the brogrammer that seems to be the model these days? I'd change professions if pair programming was the only way I could write software.
Perhaps they'll build it out of oil drums like their SAM systems? I don't think Iran is capable of putting together a decent steel drum band much less stealth drones.
I'll argue that Krauthammer is referring to energy devoted rather than past accomplishments. Should the Chinese return to the moon whilst we are convening panels to issue press releases about energy efficient NASA buildings, then indeed "overtaken" is correct. Bolden is just defending his sinecure and the aforementioned LEED office building.
Only if the Singularity involves transcendent crime and corruption. How can people who can't even make a decent refrigerator even talk about this stuff with a straight face?
That's for sure. I recently changed jobs and most of the interviews were like that. I especially remember being on the phone arguing O(dumbness) issues while wondering to myself what the hell this had to do with anything I could do for them.
“By paying less attention to quality, Facebook has been able to focus on other things, like making the company a fun place to work at that can attract and retain talented engineers. Facebook would probably be less fun if it cared more about quality.” - So Facebook is a landbanking operation for superhumans?
