Why wouldn’t you want to? It seems getting rid of our rights is to make things better, right? So, why not go and see how awesome it is in such places?
France is doing great, I hear.

A later study, funded by Syngenta itself, essentially said “nothing to see here, move along”.
Orwell and Huxley could not have dreamt up something as dystopian.
Or just use wind and solar?
Thank you.
No, I don’t have a source.
Like, not lying to users about data collection, not opting users into third-party products, not censoring add-ons for political reasons?
Gimme a break. The foundation is given a big break as it is, being tax-free. Then there is this huge greedy corporation bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars while resting its brand on the perceptions most users (outside of HN) have about Mozilla and Firefox being a non-profit thing in general.
The former is fear-mongering, but the latter is true.
Why hasn’t any coalition of companies or rich people created a utopia with UBI? They could easily buy up tens of thousands of acres of property and do all of this fantastic stuff... but they don’t. Why? Because they are the ones who produce. Socialism is about taking from those who produce and giving it to those who don’t. The only way to keep that going long-term is by force.
Use some common sense.
Don’t say nobody warned you.

This propaganda is part of the inflationary process, which is intended to increase economic velocity at or faster than the rate of savings, at the expense of savings.
Soon, a dollar will be thought of the way we think of a quarter, and the quarter will become the new dime. Decent family homes will cost north of $2.5MM, and people will say, “back when I was a kid...”.
I wish Apple would offer a version without the TouchBar.
In the span of many decades, perhaps centuries, all manner of governments evolve into their final form: tyranny.
There’s way too much “we need to start...” bullshit these days, and mostly spearheaded by the same group of ~500 businesses and media corps[1]; as if any of these fucking mega corporations give a shit about any of us.
When everything you believe in starts aligning perfectly with the corporations that have been screwing you for decades (tax havens, monopolizing the industries your parents worked in, sending all our jobs over seas to underaged slaves, dumping toxins into our rivers, etc.), it’s time to rethink your thinking.
1. took me all of three seconds to find an example for the publisher in question, in what looks like The Economist running pseudo-critic defense for Nike’s sweatshops, etc.: https://www.economist.com/business/1999/02/25/sweatshop-wars
This is what we do at work.
Unless there is some major database or library or language version change in a feature branch, once that branch is tested and QA’d, the M.O. becomes “merge any feature branches that we’re ready to put live into master and release”.
Long-lived branches are a mess, and rebase flow is crushed by them.
If you can fit this kind of simple Git workflow into your development workflow, I recommend it.
The author of this ad “is a founder of the grassroots climate campaign”, doesn’t even mention the size of this “large swath”, so I’m left to wonder if it is even similar in size to the 1,100 acre example he gives, which itself would be 0.002% of Utah; that’s not a large swath. I have multiple friends with larger farms than this in a single town.
If I stake a claim to pan for gold in Montana, I wonder if he will write an article about me.
History has shown us over and over and over that an unarmed populace will either A) be subject to unchecked violence by its overlords, or B) be successfully invaded by new and less desirable overlords.
Secondly, “fixing the regulations” is not necessary; what is necessary is enforcing the already existing regulations.
Just like vocal anarchists make the left look bad, the freedom-loving libertarian side is marred by the vocal authoritarians; esp when they feel threatened.
There is little incentive to attempt tyranny when the result can be predicted so easily.
Also, don’t underestimate the power of 100 million people wielding guns. The world has yet to ever witness a force 1/10th as great and well-armed as the American populous.
In all seriousness, because if you dropped these same people in the woods with construction tools and resources, they’d produce nothing of value; all eaten by bears within weeks.
IOW, your question answers itself.
Are you pro individual gun ownership?
The second amendment exists in the US Constitution, first and foremost to balance the power between a populous and would-be tyrants.
