godmodus··on Why Is Cancer More Common in Men?
Thanks for the reply!

I didn't mean to sound snarky, it was more of the pessimist in me. But chiefly an optimist. I trust evolution is doing the right thing. But that is indeed a weak argument, seeing as it's not supported by either more philosophy or science.

I do apologise for how it came through, in was on mobile and didn't have time to put in more prose.

I should have brought in more facts into my own argumet to spark a discussion. I'll take the critism to mind and adjust.

godmodus··on The Only Thing, Historically, That's Curbed Inequality: Catastrophe
It's hard to argue against trivial equality, the state of being reduced to zero.

But that's not what modern equality proposes.

The argument against Trump is this case, in my opinion, void.

What he is is proof of systemic weaknesses and corruptions in our beurocracies.

The right sentiment, but the argument is too reductionist.

Sort of like saying If we're all dead, we're all equally alive. Not false perse, but it's an absurdity.

Edit: coming from an active conflict zone, I often comfort my western colleagues by arguing that everything we have that's worth anything is often built on blood sacrifice, and that the west is in need of fewer conflicts, because it learns and ends up prefering peace over conflict, as will my region someday. War a d conflict are natural to us but so is peace and love of kin.

I understand the author, but it's a bit grim. That said, hope for the best, prep for the worst.

godmodus··on Why Is Cancer More Common in Men?
That being said, medicine is "new" technology.

We're advancing it pretty fast though.

Edit: not to mention the perception of females as a weaker sex. Socially, society is mirroring male behavior in terms of protection of females. It'll switch and balance itself out in due time. Historically I think makes died more often to work or war, females to sickness. Today these boundaries are blurring, but (socio)evolution is a patient turtle.

godmodus··on Why Is Cancer More Common in Men?
Which is why human engage in mate selection and are great at multiplying. Plus innate abity to advance technology. We'll engineer ourselves to survive.

Or nuke everything, whichever comes first. Heh.

Edit: not to knock off the downvotes, if they're due, they're due. But may I enquire as to why I am being downvoted?

Cool writeup! It's amazing what lina can do.

godmodus··on Parallelization of SAT Algorithms on GPUs [pdf]
Publish or perish leaves very little room for sanity checks once your window of graduation starts to close.
godmodus··on German parents told to destroy Cayla dolls over hacking fears
Germans are well read and most are aware of state hypocrisy. The ccc, general public and governmental watchdogs keep a good watch over things. There is some restrained discontent regarding state cooperation with various agencies, and the government is well aware. So they don't push it.
godmodus··on Algorithms
I have to applaud the attempt.

And I'm kind of smirking right now, because again asymptotic got butchered.

I've spent the good part of this semester trying to get my head around a very formal, very dense script of my own algorithms course. And I finally cracked asymptotic. Maybe I'm just dense. But If that's the case, I'm sharing a classroom with others who are equally dense.

We dealt with all 5 classes, big oh, small oh, theta, big omega and little omega. We're required to always give the "most exact" classification for best/avg/worst. Including "does not get as fast as" or "does not get as slow as"

I'm willing to write a "freshman friendly" write up if someone's willing to post it or use it. I'm shit at self publishing.

godmodus··on Why does e to pi i equal -1? (2015) [video]
I love this answer.

For some reason, I've been dreaming about negative numbers lately. I think they deserve their own number set notation.

But we do. And I do. That's all I'll say to you. I don't want any part of this vitriol.
godmodus··on Show HN: DeepUI Programming Studio – A different approach to programming
Cute idea. Why No Linux?
godmodus··on Don’t Pursue Programming if You Aren’t Passionate About It
I think it's like writing in the future to come.

Everyone should write. Few become authors. It is the way of things. And programming will invade every corner of our essence. Much like this post, it is not the best, nor must it be for us to exchange information and better each other.

The real distortion in cs is the fact almost everyone needs a damn CS degree these days for mid-tier pay. Never mind needing to be under 30. (slight exaggeration to drive home the point)

godmodus··on Privacy is Power: Why the fight for privacy matters
Society is a sleeping giant. Aslong as food and shelter are there, people will stay dormant.

But eventually, one of these two things will be taken away. Maybe food. Maybe the security of shelter... Look at North Korea, defectors left and right, despite the horrors. Though ill admit to the difficulty of localities. Horrors can be committed, and sustained, upon a minority, while the majority sleeps, we enable north Korea, but only because it's a local, distant horror.

Bur when the majority is fucked.. The hackers, the rebels, the adamant few WILL fuel the fires of revolution.

But ill admit again to the sophistication of our current system and it's cruelty. It will delay improvement. It's a cat/mouse scenario. We're the cat, and we're sound asleep for now. Trump and the falling apart of the EU will shake the house though. Or maybe they wont, but stench of war is in the air.amd the higher ups, no matter how sophisticated, are only human.

It's important not to give in to desperation and paranoia. Education (math, science, history, art) will help keep the population capable and give them the tools to transform society when the day comes where we must act.

godmodus··on Privacy is Power: Why the fight for privacy matters
Sort of ironic to see bitcoins being hacked away due to lax security with the phone system, too. Ud think after mitnick, it wouldnt be possible, but our leadera today are actively choosing to ignore history's lessons, and we enable them.

Privacy and Security are the battlefields of today, and the wars of tomorrow. It'll hurt Badly when that impending 1984 world rains down on us, very soon. That said, we'll win, eventually. :o)

godmodus··on An Anonymous group has taken down a major dark web hosting service
Fills me with 1990 nostalgia of IRC being ddosed and no one being able to trade ccs or dcc them 0daywarez. Ah the sweet chaos and drama.

Fun times, glad to see people are still having fun :0)

The part about childporn though... That's pretty abhorrent. Nearly half. I just don't understand child porn. Why? I wonder if there are child porn "Hunters" that go after these scum. (by Hunters I mean White hats)

godmodus··on Wanted: Factory Workers, Degree Required
Most IT jobs in Switzerland are apprentice routes.

And theyre far better than Germans these days.

Had friends with BAs apply for entry level jobs in Switzerland and get rejected with "too little experience".

godmodus··on Ask HN: Is a master degree in CS worth it
It's worth it for the speed of learning it affords you later. It won't teach you to program - A CS degree teaches you to learn, and learn fast.

I've seen so many technically superior students fail to learn a new technique because they couldn't read the logic notation.

That said, a CS degree is less cost effective per niche subject than a specialist with 10+ years experience.

Money wise, it's more or less the same, biased towards experience.

godmodus··on The foundation of a more secure web: Google Trust Services
i don't see how this is real security, considering trump's election and google's track record of bending to government demands. even more disappointing is their use of an NIST curve.

but then again, government players plague every security system we have.

godmodus··on Cervical cancer is more deadly than previously thought
Because unlike regionally based illnesses we didn't discover a genetic disposition. And these things are well researched due to the need to control for variables. Hpv is prevalent globally, not at all a regional issue. Our genes treat it equally, because its prevalence normalised its effects.

Regional differences might actually cause a nasty strain of hpv to arise, and it would again effect us equally if infected.

godmodus··on Cervical cancer is more deadly than previously thought
Does it do anything against Amy hpv strain you have? Or does it curb future infections of strains one doesn't have?
godmodus··on Cervical cancer is more deadly than previously thought
Black are generally more prone to the claws of sociological economic Literacy disparities.

Lesser education or of poorer quality, + poverty = bad/no sex ed.

This is true to most minorities that suffer(ed) from discrimination.

It's am uphill battle to Remedy this. I wonder where Hispanics would land. I assuse in-between.

Shocking numbers. Really.

godmodus··on Working on Chrome made me develop a tool for reading source code
Trying should be made more accessible.

"Looks" promising.

godmodus··on Software Developers Should Have Sysadmin Experience
True for most devs that do any backend work.

Many devs out there who work with Windows or do mostly front end often have little experience in that domain.

Seeing alot of work get done at uni by students - who also actually some backend (friend did a blockchain project recently) did infact do very little backend discovery - the job was delegated to another student to get the env. Up and running.

godmodus··on Micro-Dosing: The Drug Habit Your Boss Is Gonna Love
As someone who's worked as a bartender and have seen the inside of a big restaurant's kitchens... All I'll say is that you can definitely tell when Saturday's around.

Cocain and methamphetamine use in the gastro industry is VERY common.
