go13··on Sweden gives employees unpaid time off to be entrepreneurs (2019)
1. i wonder, what makes people and politicians think that an employee who is not certain to find a new job within 6 months and who doesn't have 6 months of savings is capable of creating a sustainable business or a startup? And why creating business is less "draining" than looking for a job in already familiar area for that person?

Looks infantile to me.

2. I would imagine entrepreneurs and even more business owners statistically should be right-leaning. Especially, when they start feeling how socialist government "loves" them ;)

3. yes, i was wrong. didn't think it through. hackers can be left leaning. probable today's hackers are naturally left-leaning from what i can see from the comments :)

"The problem with socialism is that it runs out of other peoples' money"

I know, but still someone needs to cover their position in the meantime and potentially provide other benefits.

Why can't people they just quit their job for the duration needed, do the startup in their spare time using their own money rather than taking advantage of someone else who is already successful?

They want to be called entrepreneurs - why would they not grow balls, take risk like proper entrepreneurs do and not hide behind socialist populist state?

Looks like a lot of people on HN have left-leaning views despite the name "HACKERnews"

Referendum was organized under supervision of Russian special forces and Russia acknowledged this. By all laws it was a military operation which is normally called annexation. Hitler made the same annexation in his times.

Interestingly, the survey conducted in 2013 in Crimea doesn't show any sign of Russian language discrimination at that time.

Which proves one more time that all Russian propaganda was just lie.

And you intentionally or unintentionally support Kremlin propaganda.

The Ukraine is not Europe - google maps can help you ;)

Also it is much more Europe than Russia which is Asia by it's spirit and history despite has some European territories.

go13··on Why Are Ultrasound Machines So Expensive?
Can anybody who is knowledgeable in this area tell me if it is possible to use later interference to build ultrasound transducer? Similar to how gravity wave detector works but for 2 dimensions?

go13··on Russia enacts 'draconian' law for bloggers and online media
I am confused with your reply: > But if you believe it should be - what you mean?

>The point is, that if something is illegal for one party, it's illegal for all. - in some countries the law doesn't work and this country's elite don't act basing on the law and justice but use manipulation (like my example with USSR and Nazi Germany) to justify it's actions which results in more bad things.

Example USSR-Germany is a parallel to what some Russians are stating: like the current law on blogging is okay because the US initiated similar law too. Bloggers, free media and readers are in fact victims of this manipulation because the US has nothing to do with Russia's internal policy. And still some Russians use this argument as a justification of this law.

Please read my previous comment thoroughly.

These things should NOT all be dealt with equally! Because if you state this then you mean that the politics and the relationship between Russia and the west are not led by LAW but by "bad things" an opposite side did.

These things should be dealt by LAW and JUSTICE and you should not link one to another because if you do then you end up justifying the USSR crimes because Nazi Germany did this!

UPD: A crime should be a crime in all countries. The problem is that some countries use other's crimes as an argument. I said "things should NOT all be dealt with equally" because the judgement should base not on what others think about this but what the moral and the law says.

It is interesting, that as an argument of moral right to restrict basic civil rights or to start war in Ukraine or other shit, Putin's dolls use a thesis that the US or other countries did something similar like SOPA, war in Iraq, Guantanamo or shutting down of different protests.

Usually these guys (Putin's apologist not major players) don't know much details about the subject (as well as most other people/all of us) but they use these arguments to justify crimes of Putin's regime.

It is like to justify killing of innocent people in the USSR because Nazi Germany did this too.

Disclaimer: i don't compare the US or other countries with Nazi Germany but used this example as a hyperbole to show the issue.

go13··on Russia Blocks Access to Major Independent News Sites
Small part of Russia wants to live in a free liberal society but major part says we want to live in a gang-totalitarian terrarium headed by the KGB agent.

Those who have courage to protest on the Bolotnaya square say we want to have free media and have a right to protest but zombied people say we want to be slaves.

Zombied slaves don't want to have alternative media and don't want to think because Putin's propaganda does this for them.

These guys consider all countries around to be their enemies who want to destroy Russia. Why? Because all criticism which is really worth attention (poverty, HIV, abuse of basic human rights, the president who does his 3rd term, invasion to Georgia, Ukraine etc) they say to be an attempt to damage their declining country.

So guys, it is your choice.

Even if people read Hacker News, Silicon Valley will never come to Russia because innovations can't exist in a prison-styled country where semi-military illegal cossaks scourge young girls without mercy. This means your people will never be rich. Of course except your small elite made its weals selling resources and slavery workforce.

And FYI Wiki definition of Liberalism:

Liberalism is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality. Liberals [...] generally they support ideas such as free and fair elections, civil rights, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, free trade, and private property

go13··on About Ukraine
Russians often ask this question but... (And i heard this thesis two times yesterday said by russians only btw)

- Don't forget about Crimean Tatars who live there and i really doubt they would like to either join Russia or be separated from Ukraine. Why? Lots of them were banished from the island by Russian Empire. Though still a lot of Crimean Tatars are living there now. Also they supported Maydan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_Tatars .

- WIKI says the number of ukrainians living in Crimea - 24.32%, russians - 58%, Crimean Tatars - 12 .

- But russians usually don't remember Dagestan(Russia) or the Chechen Republic(Russia) where the number of russians is less than 5%. Or Belgium with german speaking people .

- Ukrainian regions were a part of the Russian Empire for quite a long time. Why would they not join Russia?

- Crimea is an autonomy, but even now people stimulated by politicians say that they want Ukraine to be a federation. Do they know what is the difference between autonomy and federation?

And in addition. Knowing history of the country is crucial here. If you look at the Russian Imperial Census of 1897 you will see that people living in the eastern part of modern Ukraine were 80-90% ukrainian speaking. And now if you go to the country area of eastern regions you will see lots of ukrainian speaking people. There were 3 man-made famine in Ukrainian SSR conducted by Soviet regime and lots of repressions killed more ukrainians than ukrainians died during the 2 World War. And now guess what Stalin does? He invites russians to the industrial western part of Ukraine. This region required a work force at that time.

So the question is not that simple and clear if you are looking just at big cities like Kharkiv or Donezk.

PS. The myth that Maydan is a question of ukrainians - russians to live in one state is stimulated by politician i believe. It is a question of corrupted government and people who don't want to live in a state with USSR standards.
