It's a harsh way to phrase that it's practically abusive to make people live at certain latitudes where they can't absorb the amount of sun that creates vitamin-d adequate for their body.
Of course the way to combat this is just identifying deficiency and prescribing the right amount.
ignoring that masks are a perfect environment for debris and bacteria growth, as well as impeding natural expiration of all these gross things
We also know obesity and other chronic illness associated with diet is a horrific risk factor for covid.
Why in the hell haven't these options been blared across every channel and drilled into our minds?
If you're concerned about dying, enough to jail yourself in your house for a year, how about put down the freaking donut and get some sunshine.
You could only imagine the pearl-clutching if someone made the same image with Biden.
People powerless while they watch everything they worked for literally go up in flames at the hands of criminals. There's no justification for that, and it's a far cry from "justice."
Disrupting law and order - by definition - turns you into a criminal.
I'm not defending any side of the political spectrum, so it's interesting to see how people interpret this argument.
Manifesting for social change never justifies the type of chaos we saw last year, and if you think otherwise, don't complain about what happened to Congress.
Do you think rioting occurred last year?
What I'm saying is that insofar as government is concerned and law and order - rioting is never justified and must be met with police force.
By that logic, BLM led to the destruction of cities and neighborhoods across the country for months on end.
This isn't whataboutism, it's a call to suppress riots and call the activists and their sympathizers from last year to account for their bias.
It’s hard not to see the bending-over-backwards academic justifications for why we shouldn’t be suppressing riots last year as anything other than the pretext and lead up to what’s happening now.
I’m not calling legitimate protesting riots - rather the media was fully complicit with ignoring blatant rioting last year. Buildings were burning and government buildings were being swarmed and destroyed.
Riots needs to be suppressed with law and order - full stop. Unfortunately many seem 6 months late to this concept.
Even JPM is in the news with 150k predictions.
It's beautiful to have a technology that offers the choice to take back your money and branch off into a system where governments can't print money to finance their wars.
The type of blatant despotism and extreme, ubiquitous human rights violations will lead to tensions. Especially in light of something like coronavirus where they’ve been frantically secretive.
A plan that requires 100% compliance and fundamentally works against the grain of human nature is a plan bound to fail from the start.
You seem to be the type of ivory-tower utopian that's blinded by end-justifies-the-means thinking.
Your "plan" will end in disaster because it's intractable by design.
> You, and many others, continue to put politics ahead of common sense.
How is utopianism just common sense? I haven't said anything about politics either. So maybe you're projecting and revealing your mindset?
I swear there's a certain religious strain of thought that pervades coronavirus discussion.
As though someone must be responsible for the plague. Find the dirty people! Find the sinners! Burn them!
Scarlet letter, 1984, The Crucible, etc. seems like all these things are converging at once.
Demonstrate to the world that China is evil. Once you make a bunch of money, what else is left?
Despots stop at nothing to cover up failures.
My argument has the proof of vast majority of countries that’ve failed to mitigate spread with high tradeoffs and costs to society.
If Europe ostensibly can’t manage it - how is the US expected, given the elevated opinion of Europe most people on the pro-lockdown side tend to presume?
Where’s the evidence that NPIs are effective?
You want ivory tower detachment and ignorance? Suggest America just “be Australia or China.”
I think this is the larger issue.
The FDA/CDC standards seem way too high, hindering provably useful solutions, and are actively harmful especially in the context of a fast-moving crisis.
Watch Lex Fridman interview Michael Mina about cheap rapid testing that's not available because of regulatory roadblocks. It's an infuriating listen.
But not only is it a very real substantive issue, it's a characteristic issue of the academic/expert institutional class. An obsession with the theoretical that ignores pragmatic reality. These are the experts that suggest a plan that requires 100% compliance and works against every human instinct. That's intelligent?
It's a group of people divorced from the experience of average people. E.g. all these advisors forcing everyone into isolation but breaking the rules for themselves and their own family (look at Birx, Newsom, etc., the list is horrendously long).
“Someone can perceive it X way” without ever having the burden of offering evidence that that someone even exists.
We can only speak in codes now, things will be identified by hashes or some crap.
This is virtually impossible given how much government, politicians, and even individuals have staked their identity and reputation on being correct and knowledgeable.
That's the most evil aspect of authoritarianism and despotism. The inability to admit failure, limitation and falibility. This is why Fauci and friends always couch their responses to criticism with dismissive explanations.
I'm constantly frustrated with the unimpeachable self-confidence that's so pervasive now. It's only worse when their failures are so apparent.
I believe this and I think it applies to all the lockdowns and moral superiority stuff where people are shamed for not following NPIs that don't seem effective.
It's as though the pro-lockdown side can't accept that sometimes tragedy happens and we're relatively powerless to stop it. So, unable to accept that they point fingers to anyone around them. Who must we demonize? Hunt the witch!
They suppose there must be non-compliant people if the lockdowns aren't working. And so they fight the hidden enemy. As though if there's a minority of people not complying, that population wouldn't have been exhausted through infection after a year.
