gloosx··on The GitHub website is slow on Safari
On my machine Slack is taking 100MB of memory and 0.1% CPU to do nothing. Maybe we are using different Slack or one of us is lying about the "doing nothing" thing.

It's possible I'm wrong about bandcamp using react but your guess is far from reality as well – react itself does not prevent or discourage loading pages very quickly.

gloosx··on I Am An AI Hater
Impressive writing, I enjoyed it, yet I feel it needs to go deeper and acknowledge that AI is nothing more but a product of modern society which dictates what is to be done: an algorithm which generates infinite profits; This algorithm was just invented, it can respond pseudo-emotionally and mimic the individual, so it has potential to build dependence and empty said individual's pocket indefinitely. Thats peak capitalism
gloosx··on The GitHub website is slow on Safari
Slack is one the most slick and pleasant pieces of software to use. It's big success as well as the fact that it's acquisition cost was one of the largest software deals ever – tells of itself – it's certainly a fine piece of software made by fine engineers who used react and electron with a certain amount of dignity. People who rant about tools like react or electron affecting their performance just don't want to understand that it's organisation and people behind the tools who are responsible for their performance.

> a single well made react app

What about Slack, the messenger?

Umm, Discord? SoundCloud? Trello? Bandcamp? Spotify?

If I keep going there are actually hundreds and thousands of well-made react apps.

gloosx··on Being “Confidently Wrong” is holding AI back
We had many examples of AIs which tried to learn from feedback in the public domain. They all quickly becoming racist nazis for some reason.
gloosx··on Copilot broke audit logs, but Microsoft won't tell customers
What do you mean a problem? It's an AI man. Just ask it what to do man. It's thinking, it's really really big thinking. Big thing which does all big thinking. The multi-modal reasoning deep big thinking bro. Security, permissions, thats so important for you?? We have AI. It does thinking. What else do you need?? Because two brains are better than one. Your backlog doesn’t stand a chance. Get speed when you need it. Depth when you don’t. Make one change. Copilot handles the rest. It's your code’s guardian angel. It's AI bro. AGI is coming tomorrow. Delegate like a boss. Access rights and all the complex things can wait.
gloosx··on A message from Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to all company employees
Accusing every article of being made with AI is a new type of psychosis. Overall it's just a speculation without any sensible way to back it, thus it's gets logically downvoted.
gloosx··on Food, housing, & health care costs are a source of major stress for many people
Yes I did some maths and we should be able to...

...reach highest phase of communist society, after the enslaving subordination of man to the division of labor has disappeared; when the antithesis between mental and physical labor has disappeared along with it; when labor has ceased to be merely a means of life, but has itself become the first need of life; when, together with the all-round development of individuals, the productive forces have also grown and all the sources of social wealth have flowed in full flow, only then will it be possible to completely overcome the narrow horizon of bourgeois law, and society will be able to inscribe on its banner: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.”

gloosx··on Tell HN: Anthropic expires paid credits after a year
Anthropic also doesn't provide any way to remove your credit card once you add it to your account, which tells it's a very greedy company.
gloosx··on Claude Opus 4.1
They need to leave some room to release 10 more models. They could crank benchmarks to 100% but then no new model is needed lol? Pretty sure these pretty benchmark graphs are all completely staged marketing numbers since they do solve the same problems they are being trained on – no novel or unknown problematic is presented to them.
gloosx··on OpenAI's ChatGPT Agent casually clicks through "I am not a robot" verification
1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup citric acid, 1/2 cup cornstarch, 1/2 cup Epsom salt, 2.5 tbsp oil (like coconut), 3/4 tbsp water, 10–20 drops essential oil

Combine wet into dry slowly until it feels like damp sand.

Pack into molds, press firmly.

Dry for 24 hours before using.

Drop into a bath and enjoy the fizz!

gloosx··on URL-Driven State in HTMX
This is a generalization from personal exposure, availability bias. It just points out that some people implement things poorly — ignoring that many well-designed SPAs do use URL state effectively. React itself does not prevent or discourage URL-based state, it's just the developer's choice whether to use routing or no.
gloosx··on URL-Driven State in HTMX
It's just how web works – storing data in URL params to restore the same state later. With React or whatever library you do the exactly same thing. In this case HTMX doesn't particularly stand out or enable anything new here.
gloosx··on Stop selling “unlimited”, when you mean “until we change our minds”
These are very greedy kind of companies which will try to squeeze every penny out of their users eventually. In this LLM-made article, they seem to be... surprised about this?
gloosx··on Vanilla JavaScript support for Tailwind Plus
Such a pleasure to see a nice tailwind abstraction, at some point inlining starts looking just a bit too much, luckily there is a solution ;)

  /\* tailwind.css \*/
  .card-container {
    @apply flex flex-col md:flex-row items-center justify-between

gloosx··on Vanilla JavaScript support for Tailwind Plus
Oh yeah, when I open a typical big project with Tailwind I always love to see some:

gloosx··on Games Look Bad: HDR and Tone Mapping (2017)
All these massive studios with their grand budgets can't make a game which is not looking like a cartoon.

gloosx··on USB-C hubs and my slow descent into madness (2021)
Yes. I have exact same story: around 3 completely screwed hubs til I got to mostly decent working one. I hate Apple for the port shenanigans, they are so close sometimes by plugging something into one port, the other one gets blocked. I can even block one port by my headphones cable thats how close together they are. Truly an idiot designed this. Also USB-C really feels more flimsy than USB-A and cables I insert in are quite shaky already after 1 year of usage.

Same goes with 3.5mm jack on the phones. Freaking adapters are just an ominous thing to use. They are just bad and they always break. The port is so loose so after 3 months of using they just start falling away from it. There is no decent phone left with a 3.5mm jack, which is a really sad state of things... Unless you know one? Feel free to suggest.

gloosx··on Tell HN: uBlock Origin on Chrome is finally gone
So you say, after almost 20 years of development by thousands of engineers and developers and 130 versions it is still not secure and needs new features? That is kinda weird.
gloosx··on Tell HN: uBlock Origin on Chrome is finally gone
so why not staying at 137? what are we missing?
gloosx··on Async Queue – One of my favorite programming interview questions
In context of JS this kind of promisified async code is intuitive and this pattern is quite common in various projects and libraries, but the solution in C-like pseudocode of course looks more readable for general programming public.
gloosx··on Async Queue – One of my favorite programming interview questions
If this is given in Javascript, I'd rate the promise solution higher since a Javascript job involves a ton of promisified async code like this. If this is given in C or pseudo-code, then for sure a good ol stack+flag+loop is looking good enough.
gloosx··on Async Queue – One of my favorite programming interview questions
This most likely happened because you had a queue operation which started another queue operation so a recursion was created which consumed every bit of memory it had available.
gloosx··on Async Queue – One of my favorite programming interview questions
Dunno, every queue in every major library/project I saw is implemented like this. This is quite readable if you're familiar with js promises.
gloosx··on Async Queue – One of my favorite programming interview questions
The proper implementation looks kinda bulky to me. Are you not allowed to use promises? Feels more like a naive solution for anyone who has few months of experience with javascript or is it cheating?

  const PromiseQueue = {
    queue: Promise.resolve(true),
    sendOnce(request) {
      return new Promise((resolve, reject) => {
        this.queue = this.queue
          .then(request)
          .then(resolve)
          .catch(reject)
      })
    }
  }
