globalrev··on Google interview questions - fun brain teasers
But if they can talk to each other about it they would have killed all the man before the queen came.
globalrev··on Google interview questions - fun brain teasers
Hmm I am not sure about this one.

With 2 couples it goes:

Both women know that the other man has cheated but they don't know if their own has. So when the queen says one has cheated at first they don't kill their husbands becuase it could be the other one. But if the other woman didn't know the others man had cheated the cheater had to be their own but since she didn't she must know the other has cheated. So they will both kill their husband after figuring that out.

But i am not sure this is the same for 3 and more couples. Can they make the same deduction? If the queen said that 99 other men had cheated, yes, but 1? I don't see it.

globalrev··on What's Really Killing Newspapers
Onlline aggregators are great but what will replace those deep-digging articles done by journalists?

And then I am not talking about tech stuff, professors and business people have an income.

I am talking about investigative reporters. How will they get financed?

14. You are at a party with a friend and 10 people are present including you and the friend. your friend makes you a wager that for every person you find that has the same birthday as you, you get $1; for every person he finds that does not have the same birthday as you, he gets $2. would you accept the wager?

Is this a trick question? The answer is a definite no right? Or is there some tricky detail that I am missing? If the answer is no what is the question for? To see that the candidate can think clearly and don't try to come up with "smart" solutions when not needed?

globalrev··on Why no downmod for links?
Wouldn't that stop a lot of people from getting involved here too?
globalrev··on About the Cruft
Yes but you are talking about abstraction power which is ofc important.

But 4 lines vs 5 lines doesn't really say that, if it did then we would all be using Perl.

globalrev··on About the Cruft
Me too.

Also I am getting tired of all these "my language can do this in 4 lines vs 5 lines in your languae so your language sucks"-posts. Line-counting is a pretty dumb and insightless way of comparing language power and tells far from the whole story.

globalrev··on Lisp, too, is mainstream
Plus shortening programs should on the contrary make programs easier to read, all they have to do is choose reasonable names for their macros.

globalrev··on Erlang meets Lisp (again)
Clojure is a different philosophy than Erlang but still relevant since it is LISP + concurrency + it runs on the JVM so you get access to all those nice JAVA libraries.

Seems he has chosen sites which use a concept that might be big but he has chosen the less known ones that use that concept.

globalrev··on Early Retirement is a False Idol
The point of a big score is not to retire.

It is having the privileige of not having to worry about money and being able to do exactly what you want.

If I sold a company for 200 million dollars I'd give half of it to charity, keep 10 millions as my own money and then put the rest in some big hard interesting project.
