ghywertelling··on Where things stand with the Department of War
Technological surplus was created and then it was usurped and used for nefarious purposes.

Erwin Schrödinger might have abused children because why not, "everything is a wave after all. does it really matter what one wave does to another?"

ghywertelling··on Where things stand with the Department of War
This question has been boiling in my brain for quite a long time.

Consider a hypothetical scenario where one spy chinese or russian programmer working in Google or Meta might have siphoned off (copied and uploaded) all the important code (Monorepo) to the Mothership and all of us are now sitting ducks.

I am sure, this question might have crossed your minds. I have no idea. if blueprints for the TPU chip design could get leaked, imagine what might have already happened?

ghywertelling··on The Self-Help Trap: What 20 Years of "Optimizing" Has Taught Me
During time of peace, prosperity and ZIRP like phenomenon, self help takes on the form of Law of Attraction, The Secret etc.

During time of war and uncertainty, self help takes on the form of Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl.

We are conditioned beings, we respond to the macro environment and dynamics.

ghywertelling··on Large-Scale Online Deanonymization with LLMs
If LLMs can identify a person across websites, I can ask LLM to read up his posts and write like him impersonating him and then this feeds back into the tools identifying him. I can probabilistically malign a person this way.

One point I see less discussed, not related to the post, is "We never trained people to pay for software. If there existed proper global payment mechanism for software companies, the whole trajectory would look different. People are ok to pay 5$ for a coffee but not for software which makes their lives easier."

You only ever need a Meta account. The next content format will be brought to your door by Zuck even before you know you need it.
ghywertelling··on Semantic ablation: Why AI writing is generic and boring
Even if that isn't the case, isn't it the fact the AI labs don't want their models to be edgy in any creative way, choose a middle way (buddhism) so to speak. Are there AI labs who are training their models to be maximally creative?
ghywertelling··on Poor Deming never stood a chance
We need to appoint people who really CARE. When CEOs hop from company to company, the culture of CARING takes a backseat. Everything becomes transient with no one with deep technical or cultural knowledge at the driving seat. This is the reason people who have been at the company for long time should get a chance to transform it from within like Satya Nadella.

Information is being erased from Google right now. Things which were searching few years ago are totally not findable at all now. One who controls the present can control both the future and the past.
ghywertelling··on AI is going to kill app subscriptions
The areas where errors are tolerated with human / "classical algo" fallback is the best field to disrupt with AI. Call center jobs. Recommendations. Search, Curation. Wherever the current process is already stochastic and has a human or rule-based correction loop, AI just needs to be cheaper and roughly as accurate to win.

Pale Fire is what we call as Ergodic literature

Ergodic literature refers to texts requiring non-trivial effort from the reader to traverse, moving beyond linear, top-to-bottom reading to actively navigate complex, often nonlinear structures. Coined by Espen J. Aarseth (1997), it combines "ergon" (work) and "hodos" (path), encompassing print and electronic works that demand physical engagement, such as solving puzzles or following, navigating, or choosing paths.
