ghrifter··on Submarine aircraft carrier
Interesting - an airplane - submarine was developed in 1964 - http://1000aircraftphotos.com/Contributions/KleinBernhard/65...

Are you still in school, new to the industry, or both?

ghrifter··on Why GitHub Can't Host the Linux Kernel Community
Personally I'm a fan (and user) of gitlab since GitHub's recent policies and that GitHub takes forever to implement simple things that all users would love (like free private repos)
ghrifter··on New Game of Thrones episode appears in the wild
Why watch a show in HD, legally, for $15 a month when I could get 3 latte mochiattos with shots of vanilla, then watch a crappy 360p pirate stream of a show I'm a "diehard" fan of?
ghrifter··on Yahoo reinvented inline styles through classes
First day on the internet?
ghrifter··on Show HN: Themes based on the biggest startups
Time to hit the nox.
ghrifter··on Show HN: Vexlio – Create precise, beautiful diagrams
Just never leave the house, never build anything, never do anything ever.
ghrifter··on New Surface Pro
You can also buy a $200 dock for plugging in the Surface Pro to a monitor and it has some more USB ports.

Jesus christ this is insane.

ghrifter··on New Surface Pro
Nothing like confusing naming/branding than having a new product called "Surface Pro" when the Surface Pro 4 was released a few year(s) ago.

> Xbox

> Xbox 360

> back to "Xbox One"

Microsoft sure has weird naming tendencies,.

ghrifter··on The increased use of PowerShell in attacks [pdf]
Thanks, forgot about searching for file types!
ghrifter··on Writing a second video game for the Micro:bit in Rust

can we get rid of this web dev made up word already?

It should be "compiles".

ghrifter··on The increased use of PowerShell in attacks [pdf]
Is there a list of these symantec white papers to read?
ghrifter··on A proposal to move Gnome to GitLab
One issue I encounter often-ish is that when I'm on a gitlab page then hit the back button in the browser - I get a bunch of JSON spit onto the page instead of an actual HTML document.

Whats up with that?

ghrifter··on Cyberattacks in 12 Nations Said to Use Leaked N.S.A. Hacking Tool
Bernie's loss still sting?
ghrifter··on Ubuntu, SUSE Linux, and Fedora Are All Coming to the Windows Store
Ah yes Javascript becoming the RPC layer

I sure love my data types of `int` to be IEEE 754 floating point numbers!

ghrifter··on Cyberattacks in 12 Nations Said to Use Leaked N.S.A. Hacking Tool
Because they are all connected in a IoT with MongoDB, React, and Node.js

ghrifter··on Ask HN: What to do after failing final interviews twice?
> ... a developer who would copy-and-paste code from StackOverflow into different places until the result was what he wanted -- leaving all of the other references because he didn't really understand WTF he was doing.

Too close to home

ghrifter··on Show HN: I built my wedding website using Polymer
One thing I'm disliking is the amount of sites using React.

You get a crazy amount of Flash of Content and things being resized and ordered around during page load. Quite distracting tbh.

ghrifter··on Felony – An open-source PGP keychain

ghrifter··on Dropbox Smeared in Week of Megabreaches

ah the old cut and paste from one site's article, rearrange some words, grind it through a thesarus-izer, then repost.

ghrifter··on Diversity and Inclusion at GitHub

ghrifter··on How computer programming languages for kids have evolved and where they're going
"Old enough to see, better start teaching them some C"
ghrifter··on Ask HN: Who productively writes code on their smartphone? How?
That has to be a troll post. No one in their sane mind would code on a phone when a keyboard is close by.

Like if you were flying or something sure I guess writing something in notepad then emailing it to yourself later...

But writing in bed? Please.

ghrifter··on OpenSSL Security Advisory
Interesting, thanks!

If you dont mind, can you give me a rough estimate for your yearly salary or so? How long have you been programming in C?

ghrifter··on OpenSSL Security Advisory
Just curious - what do you do for a living that means you have to write C?

I'm interested in really learning C or C++ more indepthly. I feel like I am very proficient in high level programming knowledge (other than design patterns).

Basically, when or if the web dev industry falls out, I want to have a good back up of knowing low-level languages.

ghrifter··on Rise of Ad Blocking Is the Ad Industry's Fault, Says Outgoing FTC Commissioner
Next up will be getting rid of "sponsored content". At least they dont eat bandwidth or server you malware. I mean they should just be images wrapped in a href to link to a "sponsored" article, instead of some javascript ad network that can serve malware
