ghostdiver··on Functional Programming with Python
this code is so smart, maybe because it is Python after all

    from operator import add
    expr = "28+32+++32++39"
    print reduce(add, map(int, filter(bool, expr.split("+"))))
but in JavaScript it looks much more readable:

  "28+32+++32++39".split(/([\+]+)/g).reduce((r,v) => r+v, 0);
ghostdiver··on Build a Blog Engine in Go
Nice one, a fun list of hobby side projects made by Golang enthusiasts.

I'm gonna drop Jetty and Java altogether in favor of AeroNotix/wedge!

ghostdiver··on Build a Blog Engine in Go
It is also the only one library available for Golang atm.

Actually I think that this example written in Java8 with lambda expressions would be more impressive.

ghostdiver··on Build a Blog Engine in Go
I like the trick in Golang marketing, where we get a code full of references to some libraries. Same could be done about other languages.

Oh, look, web server in 5 lines of code, in Java!

    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
        Server server = new Server(80);
        server.setHandler(new HelloWorld());

        server.start();
        server.join();
    }
The trick is cheap, but it works!
ghostdiver··on What are your most common reasons for rejecting candidates after a job interview
Programmer who is looking at keyboard while typing code - not good enough.
ghostdiver··on "Instead of cures for cancer we got Angry Birds"
Cancer has been around for tens of thousands of years, yet human kind did just fine.
ghostdiver··on Closures for class/module privacy considered harmful
Hint: use something like

  var DEV = true;

  (function() {
     var priv = function() {};
     if(DEV)
       this.priv = priv;
   })();
and then use Closure Compiler with option: --define DEV=false

ghostdiver··on Ask HN: Why isn't Scala as popular on the HN front page as Haskell or Go?
> GWT

Emscripten - C++ -> JS, that's exciting, compared to Java -> JS

> Solr

Who cares about technology behind Solr? You didn't even mention Lucene

ghostdiver··on Simple API with Nginx and PostgreSQL
Postgres already offers HTTP interface:

http://wiki.postgresql.org/wiki/HTTP_API

ghostdiver··on Ask HN: Why isn't Scala as popular on the HN front page as Haskell or Go?
Scala or Cloujre, just like Java will be used for not so exciting programming tasks, syntactic sugar won't help here.
ghostdiver··on Ask HN: Does anyone really use Facebook graph search?
police, pedophiles, stalkers etc.
ghostdiver··on Ractive.js
that is false statement actually

HTML is an amazing language for creating static documents, but it was never designed for interactive web apps

ghostdiver··on Ask HN: Is Google bundling search with it's browser anti-competitive?
It is bundled also in Firefox, Opera and Safari.
ghostdiver··on Enough with the JavaScript already
with JavaScript, there is no need to know how computer works, so why would anyone learn(deeply) about that?
ghostdiver··on Enough with the JavaScript already
I see one problem:

- Entire generation of programmers may not have any knowledge about how computer works

ghostdiver··on A Cold War Hero: Colonel Ryszard Kuklinski
Technically Poland was under soviet occupation, so it was like Vichy France during WWII, but for almost 5 decades.
ghostdiver··on Ask HN: Good online games

ghostdiver··on The Rise and Fall and Rise of Java [video]
it is always possible to explain why some particular program is running slow and in case of programs running inside JVM, JVM itself is almost never the (only) reason.
