ggg3··on In Brazil, Amazon Protections Are Slashed and Forests Fall
keep in mind brazil is in a state which even senators are fleeing and asking for asylum in europe.

a government official, elected or otherwise, will most likely side with the isolationist rhetoric, if only for votes next election.

The new questionably-elected president keep the appearance of defending a brave isolation that only he is capable of (Even though the coup in brazil was caused exactly because the previous government, corrupt or otherwise, was denying american companies access to new oil reserves already), when in reality he is eating in trump's hand. He just appointed his son, who until before the election was working as a fast food chef in florida, as the brazil ambassador in the usa.

So, yes, a country should be independent and look out for the people. But in this case it is only propaganda/fake news/disinformation. whatever political campaigns are called today.

ggg3··on Adblocking: How about Nah?
the point of the article is that the wars is over.

money won by enlisting the corrupt law makers. from now on, content will have DRM (e.g. netflix) and if any adblocker even tries to touch it, the creators can be jailed.

now if you want to create/contribute an adblock, besides time, you must have impeccable opSec or also be willing to do time in jail.

ggg3··on Marcus Hutchins spared US jail sentence over malware charges
to sum it up, the US jails teenagers who deface websites (and foreigner journalists because why not). But if you created hacking tools specifically to steal money and provided support for those tools, you are in the clear?
ggg3··on A History of Visa
so, he retired at 55. why is that mentioned in his bio as the most strange of things?
ggg3··on AT&T loses nearly 1M TV customers after raising DirecTV prices
daytime tv is now fully replaced with UGC. people now scrolls instagram/tiktok/etc for hours and hours.

so when the vestigial bill changes price, it's enough to call people into action.

ggg3··on Raspberry Pi microSD follow-up, SD Association fools me twice?
this is like people putting premium gas on cars that ask for regular.

read your specs, use what is recommended. not the mopst expensive. it's just engineering 101.

ggg3··on A2-class microSD cards offer no better performance for the Raspberry Pi
sd card performance specs are all a joke.

they are "at most" some speed. What even is the point of writting such spec?

the car analogy would be if you measure some car going down a hill (doesn't even matter if tumbling and killing everyone inside), measuring that it was 300mph and then advertising it as "speeds of 300mph!!!"

ggg3··on The Washington Post is preparing for post-cookie ad targeting
and I wanted to recall that google employees repeatedly removed chromium's project code to restrict or disable referrer headers.

I personally was involved in 3 distinct times. And after that gave up chromium and the lie of google-independence completely.

and so should you. If they tweak things to reach their profit goals, they will also do the same when any agency "asks" them to. it's a slippery slope, and they already crossed

ggg3··on H3: Uber’s Hexagonal Hierarchical Spatial Index (2018)
did not look at the code yet, but the algo for subdiving might be a nightmare.

square and triangle are weird for distance, maybe. but they can all hold precise subdivisions of the shape inside each other. hexagon "bleed", so why exactly they boast so many times in the article that h3 is so great for nesting different details levels? even their diagrams show very bad bleeding (worse than it should be if optimized) and they never mention it on this summary.

ggg3··on Amazon offers $10 to Prime Day shoppers who hand over their data
prime-day-boycott: the day all tech companies realized amazon had them in their pockets with AWS

the day everyone woke up and realize the lies of multi-cloud. Everyone's architecture is naked, and tied to one particular provider.

if you can't flip a button and serve from other provider for the strike, you will also not be able to change when aws crashes, get slow or too expensive. Or what is more likely, slow unless you pay the aws-prime subscription ;)

ggg3··on Amazon offers $10 to Prime Day shoppers who hand over their data
and the (lack of) resilience of one's mono-cultuture architecture!
