Short version:

I'll buy 80% of your idea for $500.

In case first customer(s) will ever come - i'll give you another $1,500.

Not clear: if no customer(s) will ever come after X days - who owns the idea?

gesman··on Open Source Doesn’t Make Money Because It Isn’t Designed to Make Money
Open or closed, free or not - the solution is as good as its capability to solve problems.

Commercial software that is lousy and buggy is not.

Free, open source software the requires an army of consultants to make use of it - is not.

gesman··on Eliminating Robocalls
This is not even close to what I described.
gesman··on Eliminating Robocalls
Here's very simple idea for Apple:

Let only calls from known contacts ring, the rest auto-goes to voicemail.

Why is this so F*ING hard for Apple to implement?

gesman··on Thinkpad X210
Interesting read - thanks for sharing!
gesman··on Thinkpad X210
Nvme SSD slot + plenty of USB 3 slots + ability to plug in 32GB RAM easily is great.

Any company reducing physical peripherals slots on their devices should be publicly condemned!

Ouch. The winner of "The worst position to be in today".

gesman··on Ask HN: How to speak like a leader, not like an engineer?
Engineer doesn't mean "NOT a leader".

Besides your boss keeps you in engineering class position and criticizing the way you talk without conveying his thoughts clearly or specific ways for you to talk.

I'd question his leadership skills. It maybe that you don't need to change much after all.

gesman··on Ask HN: How come some submissions suddenly decrease in their rank?
When rank reaches double digits, makes it to the first page and then suddenly drops like a rock - this is manual intervention by admins.

Likely due to the bias toward the story.

Put name of your company to your resume.

No one needs to know who owns the Co, as long as you can support what resume says.

gesman··on Google Wants $15M in Tax Breaks to Build a Data Center in Minnesota
Can I get $10k of tax break if i move to XX and hire my wife (and kids)?

- I want all non-contact-list calls to auto-go to voicemail.

Apple? Why is it so hard to implement?

Hunters in that other country can also help for a cut.
gesman··on Let’s Destroy Robocalls
Make it mandatory $10000/call fine + prison sentence and teach users how to get a money trail.

Then the hunt will get efficiently crowdsourced.

After few well publicized cases the problem will greatly diminish.

No need to go ballistic over OP's Q.

Automation of tasks is in demand and is a good win-win business model.

There are different ways to do that - API could be the one, and different services do store users passwords to help users to do what they want and need.

No need to scream "banned".

gesman··on Can we drown trackers in tracking cookies?
This is fighting with mosquitoes.

There are too many out there and if you confuse or kill 10,000 of them - another 1,000,000 will be born.

Just take basic steps to protect yourself. 90/10 rule in this case - 90% results could be obtained with 10% of effort.
