You inspired me to go and look to see if my old Digimon fansite was still on Tripod. Turns out it was. [0]

Showing off my classy classy Jasc Paint Shop Pro 5 skills, my marquee tags, pixel fonts, badly repeating background, 88x31 buttons for affiliates, links with underline and OVERline hover.

I am truly sorry, internet.

gerjomarty··on Ask HN: Where do you register your domains?
Gandi.net - good prices, good customer service - been with them for a few years and have never had any problems.

My favourite thing (among many) about this article is finding out that Lunar Industries Ltd. is actually a registered company. Duncan Jones is indeed registered as a company director.

I'm not sure when filming started, but the company was registered just about two years before the film was released.

It's those small touches that make me really appreciate it.

Does anyone know how good the transcoding is on the stream? I torrent a lot of x264 video with multiple complex ASS subtitles in the MKV container, so it'd be nice if it handled those.
gerjomarty··on Dijkstra on Haskell and Java (2001)
The first programming language we learned at university was ML. It was a very simple language for teaching functional programming, it has a minimal syntax that makes some sort of sense and it was likely that everyone was starting off at the same point with it.

Like Dijkstra said, getting these high-level concepts in there early is very important.

Rails creates the database tables for whatever ORM you're using using its Migrations. Rails keeps track of which migration files have been run.

The usual syntax for creating these migration files is in Ruby, as this makes them database-independent, arguably more easily readable, and in newer versions of Rails, reversible.

Of course, you can put plain old SQL in these migrations if you want to as well.

From the release notes[1], at least the beta version comes with Python 2.7.5.

That is very true, but there's something to be said for experiencing music live rather than at home with a nice set of headphones.

Also, I was fairly miffed when I went to a concert a while back and had the singer drowned out by five guys singing along really loudly right beside me. (We were quite far back from the stage.) It's great that they're having a good time, but they probably could have had just as good a time going to karaoke or something. Although you would lose the feeling of "being there".

In addition to

> Every photograph and video you take at a concert or other live event will probably be terrible. Just enjoy the moments, don’t feel pressured to document them.

I would also add that while singing along at concerts certainly has its time and place, actually listening to the artist singing is better.

gerjomarty··on Sleep: Everything You Need to Know
I hear a lot about cutting caffeine after 3pm to have it not affect your sleep, but I generally assume people are talking about coffee when they mention this time. I care more about when I should stop drinking tea, which apparently contains less caffeine.

Can I just halve the time required if tea has half the caffeine (let's say)?

No, one is having a jape with you.
