gerby··on Ask HN: Corporate nullification question
It's a term that was used by one of the VCs, to describe the dynamics of the supply-side of the marketplace. Perhaps he wasn't using it in the right context. Thanks!

Thanks. The Weapon has the opportunity to scale into something more than what it is, but for now, it's purely a tool to help us get liquidity, which can be one of the hardest parts of running a marketplace. It's not part of the core product, and it has about 200 hours of work put into it by four of us.

This comment was really helpful. We plan on using the information to generate leads for contractors so that we can get liquidity on the supply-side of our marketplace. We are a "social marketplace for contracts" and The Weapon is only a tool we're using the get contractors signed up on the platform.

In some cases, we are able to create entire profiles (minus some aspects) using information we have harvested using The Weapon.

Thanks for your input. Will be seeing a lawyer before it's deployed. Will be interesting. Hopefully our servers will be busy on launch.
gerby··on What are young men doing?
I dropped out of University, to build my startup called ContractIt. Peter Thiels' words about feeling like he was on a very straight-forward path with his law career, really stood out to me, and shook up my feelings about my own education and what I really wanted from my life. I had pursued entrepreneurial ventures before, but nothing had struck my consciousness as much as going to Burning Man and getting to know my friend Ismail in Uganda - I just felt like I could make a difference in the world if I built ContractIt and never gave up.

My big vision, is I believe, that we can use "productive data values" captured from contractual activity on our platform to provide the equivalent of a guaranteed minimum income for everybody on the planet. I have built a large team on a 0$ budget. We're in Alpha, a month or so away from our beta.

It's exciting, and anxiety-inducing to be working full-time on ContractIt - but I feel like I get a lot of credibility for dropping out of school and quitting my job to make it happen.

gerby··on Ask HN: Just got an innocent man out of prison. What now?
If Peter helped this man to get on his feet and find justice, that would be a very noble act. I'm personally willing to donate this exonerated man a computer and teach him how to code user interfaces remotely if he wants. If I could afford to do more, I would.
