geetarista··on Evernote requires more private data
There are plenty of Chrome plugins that ask for the same permissions. Hence, the trend.
geetarista··on How to Hack Chipotle
Right. I'd like to see the calorie count for one of these "hack" burritos.
geetarista··on Deleuze for Developers: Deterritorialization
Yeah, but that doesn't sound artisanal.
geetarista··on Microsoft pulls the plug on its Silverlight.Net site
Hip hip...
geetarista··on The Node Beginner Book
Has anybody noticed that the entire book is actually loaded into the page? All you have to do is remove the "hiddenhalf" ID from that div and you can see everything.
geetarista··on Ask HN: Tons of ideas, zero products.
A couple of things that have helped me:

1. Start with something small that you will commit to finishing 100%. Even if it's something you can do in a weekend--make it fun. Usually it helps to solve problems that you have that you are very familiar with and you know can address. Maybe people in your class or college/university have a problem you can solve.

2. Do something outside your comfort zone. Get a part-time job doing something you're interested in that you have no experience in. Start a new hobby or join groups in your community, college, etc. that are new to you. Connecting with people will help you build people skills and find problems that people need solving.

Thanks. Just came to ask for the original to get around the paywall.
geetarista··on Ask HN Do we need a forum?
We do have the "ask" tab, but everything is included in the main stream of news. I would just prefer to keep things separated and organized a little better.

I'm not sure what the solution would be exactly; the subdomain/forum idea is just a suggestion. If it was a separate forum, it could house all talk-related items and categorize them as "Questions", "Job Postings", etc.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had the same preference and if there are any better suggestions.

geetarista··on 40% off Pragmatic Programmers books this week
There are a ton of good books in their store, so a lot of it will depend on what you're interested in and what your level is. I have quite a few books from them and have been happy with every one.
geetarista··on Computer Science students: Learn to write
I can not emphasize how important this is. I skimmed my way through most of my classes in college, dropped out, then became a self-taught developer. While I do well as a developer, this is the one skill that I miss the most.
geetarista··on GitHub Nodeload2: Downloads Reloaded
Great example of people that know how and when to appropriately use node.js.
