gebe··on Windows Phone SDK 8.0: still not available.
According to the live event taking place right now it should be available tomorrow.
gebe··on Windows Phone 8 live event (10 AM PT)
There's a Flash (another why) stream as well at the bottom of the page: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/presskits/windowsphone/l...
gebe··on Multiplayer 0x10c testing [Streaming]
It's anyone's guess really but I interpreted it as a test of the networking code more than anything else. I don't think he is making a fast paced shooter :)

gebe··on Windows 8 is the new XP
Don't forget Windows 2000 which in my book was the Windows 7 of its day. I was one of the stubborn ones refusing to upgrade my windows machines until it was pretty much unavoidable because 2000 wasn't supported by the software any longer. Even though the leap from 7 to 8 certainly is bigger than 2000 to XP ever was it kind of feels like history repeating itself in a way.
gebe··on The future of .NET
It's in the pipeline though for Unity 4 which will be out soon (I think there is already a preview available).
gebe··on AndroidKickstartR: Start your next Android app in 10 seconds
Wait, you are going to buy an iPhone because that would _hinder_ you from taking up app development since you don't have a Mac? That is quite bizarre yes, but each to his own :)
gebe··on Spotify loses $59.1 million on $244.5 million in revenue
Same, been using Spotify daily since the invite only days in 2008. Don't know what I'd do if it would disappear, are there good alternatives?
gebe··on Why Are Programming Languages Sites So Ugly?
I feel this way too. I even kind of like the no bullshit design ("design") on PHP's site as well. It's fast and it's clear and it makes me reminisce about the times when I didn't need a top of the line computer just to surf the fucking web.
gebe··on A syntax comparison across many languages
Well, depends on your layout. That might be the case on a US keyboard but for many others (for example German, Spanish, the Nordic countries' layout and many other European and non-European layouts) it would be preferred over for example "//". For "//" you need to use a modifier (just as with '#') but you need to stretch more (or use both hands) and as well tap it two times. That's one of the reasons why I prefer to code using an English layout in my IDE/editor :)
gebe··on Hey Paydirt: Your Site Works Just Fine In IE
I am an Opera user as well but I really tried to do the Chrome switch when I got a new laptop and decided on a fresh install of everything. I was thinking that it might be time to begin a new chapter in my personal browser-history-life and hop on the Chrome bandwagon. It didn't take more than a day or two until I got drawn back to Opera though.

I know it's just mostly/only about "old habits die hard" but I just feel that so much is amiss in Chrome. From small things like that I have to get an app to get a dropdown address bar list (I mean really?) or the lack of intuitive hotkeys (my favourite is Opera's ctrl + z for undoing a closed tab) to bigger things like that I have to put up with Google's constant nagging about logging in to this or that or the lack of features that Opera has out the box (like Opera Turbo and such).

An old usage case before I got a no-limit data package plan was trying to save bandwidth while tethering from my phone. In Opera I could first put on Opera Turbo (like a proxy compressing service) and with another two clicks control what elements I want shown. I could easily and intuitively turn off pictures for example and only choose show those that I may want to look at. It was great for surfing light!

I am no rockstar web developer nor am I interested in figuring out what plugins/apps I need. I just want stuff to work, out of the box, while still having access to some cool stuff. And for that Opera works wonders for me (even though the support for it ain't that great ;) )!

gebe··on Why I decided to skip college, and how I've fared (10 months later)
The "gap year(s)" idea is very common where I am from as well (Sweden) and I am a strong proponent of it. Traditionally you squeeze(d) in half a year to a year of military service (not as common anymore as it is now voluntarily), one or two years of some shitty job, and maybe half a year of traveling. Personally I traveled the world as a musician in a band for a while, then I worked two years at an airport throwing bags and then I traveled some more! This way I got both perspective, experience, money and maybe most important of all, I got a strong motivation to take on higher studies. I was longing for the world of academia after standing on the "factory floor".

With that said, I have friends who went directly from high school to university and I have friends who skipped it all together. All of them are doing brilliantly and work with things they are passionate about. Things tend to work themselves out if you have a burning passion for something.

gebe··on Sad but true: Napster '99 still smokes Spotify 2012
I didn't understand that point completely from the article though. Spotify lets you look at what other users listen to and their playlists (if they haven chosen to show them to the public) and I can subscribe to those playlist as well. The thing I guess they talk about is that you can't see who listens to a specific artist, you won't be able to get a huge list of usernames that listen to a certain artist. I guess they keep those goodies for themselves ;)
gebe··on Why I Am Leaving Goldman Sachs
I found this a bit strange as well and initially thought the article to be some kind of a spoof. I don't know a thing about investment banking but I have never, ever in my life read anything positive about the prevalent cultures at these firms.
gebe··on Cursor:none abuse (trick users into clicking Facebook 'like')
The same in Opera, both the original and the "fake" one are visible.
gebe··on Rich Hickey's new project: datomic.com
Same here, it's a bit messed up in IE9 as well.
gebe··on Notch gives his $3,000,000 Minecraft dividend to his employees
I don't know how it would work out in this particular case (there might be other juridical complications) but Sweden has no taxes (any longer) on gifts.
